Crow tastes like %^#$*

Silly question, definitely TO. Had TO just butted out and left Callahan alone he would have won eventually no matter what kind of coach he is. The guy brought in talent. Five or more years of Pelini and Nebraska would have been rock bottom literally.
Were you around for Cally's last season? That was a cluster like no other...

I loved his recruiting, and he was a good offensive coach, but he had to go after the season where guys like McKeon publicly said football wasn't fun anymore... we should have lost to ball state (would have if not for a dropped pass), 5-7, he was never gonna fire cosgrove, and cosgrove was never gonna figure it out.

But a change needed to be made. TO just made the wrong choice. Hindsight is 20/20...

Watching Corey McKeon wasn't any fun either.

Sure was, hard to get anything done when you have a living legend undermining everything you're trying to do. I'll say one thing for BC, he definitely had Tom pegged for what he is.

It would have been interesting to see what Nebraska could have done had Callahan went a different direction on defense. That could have been nice... and he might still be here.

Osborne recommended Peterson, and promoted him
At the time it seemed to make sense. Who knew that Pederson would be an arrogant, power hungry jerk. He was also not well liked back in the day when he played.

no doubt that Callahan had to go and Osborne made the right decision to fire but a poor decision in the subsequent Pelini hire

to keep the thread going ... one could still argue that Osborne's failed hire will prove to be more difficult to recover from than Pederson's - as the talent pool was much higher after the Callahan firing than the Pelini firing

you could argue that if Nick Saban or Urban Meyer took over the program after Callahan they would have been much more successful in years 1-3 than they would be in years 1-3 if they took over for Pelini

all hypothetical but it is the offseason

I don't believe Pederson played as a player, but Osborne made him a recruiting coordinator so to speak around 1985/1986 or so.

There's really more to this than Bo Pelini, though obviously he was a mediocre-at-best recruiter. Are we supposed to believe that Western Michigan and Western Kentucky out recruited Nebraska? Nobody on here can realistically believe that. In addition, Westerkamp and Carter looked like near automatic future draftees when they were sophs. I'm sure this will ruffle some feathers, but it's not like player development the last two years has been much better than the previously poor Pelini recruiting.

It's almost like those 2 were often injured or something. Or had a qb that was shoved down the staffs throat at risk of losing the whole team. Gee, it's almost like a poisoned well is NOT good for drinking out of!

Since 2011 Pelini and Riley have had the same amount of guys drafted while Riley has had more guys drafted in the first 100 picks. Now one guy had the benefit of recruiting to a blueblood while the other had nothing. I don't think player development is a problem for Mike Riley.

Insert stupid meme here, that blotards will hate.

He did. One of my friends that played at the time said most players couldn't stand him.

He never lettered at Nebraska what year(s) did he play?, or are you talking about High school football?

Had some friends of my parents that went to Nebraska and had some classes with him and they couldn't stand him either, made them sick as hell when he became Athletic Director and knew he would F€£¥ up at the end which he truly did.

I doubt if he lettered. I would take a stab at 1976 thu 1980 or so.

Let's hope so. All I'm sayIng is there isn't much evidence at Nebraska so far. You guys watch the same games I do. It's honestly not that easy to name a position group that looks noticeably better coached and/or more NFL ready than when Pelini left. I am holding out lots of hope for the new defensive staff and a new QB on offense to turn things around, but I'm not drinking the koolaid just yet.

I believe he was a student manager in high school and most definitely never played in college.

That is what I thought from the very beginning. Other than kissing ass would have been the only thing that is true when it comes to Pedy

I know Steve and Tammy Pederson. His dream job was to be Nebraska AD. He loves Nebraska football. He was the visionary who transformed the football offices in the 90's and wanted nothing but greatness for the program. Yeah, it didn't work out and he may be arrogant, made bad decisions or whatever but I know for a fact that it hurt no one more than it hurt him.

Getting ready to be crucified in 3...2...1...

His biggest fault was that he gave the impression of arrogance and I'm not sure that is who he really is. I've never met him. I know people that know him and like him. Those same people knew Frank and liked him but I've not heard one say that Frank shouldn't have been fired. He made a tough decision and has to live with it. IMO, IF BC would have had a different DC, he might still be here.

Receivers, better (even #80 says this)
Running backs, push
QBs, better
Oline, worse so far (have had to deal with horrid depth, talent, and attitudes)
Tight ends, push
Dline, worse so far
Linebackers, leaps and bounds better coaching
DBs, seemingly worse (playing in different scheme that doesn't sacrifice run defense to make it seem pass D is better)

He wanted to make an imprint on the program and have a legacy at Nebraska and it back fired on him.
His arrogance was thinking he could find the next great head coach at Nebraska all by himself. Heard from a liable source at the time he didn't even have time for a donation from a former player that wanted to meet him personally to give him a check.

My bad everyone. Steve Pederson worked in the south stadium in the athletic department per my player source from the other day. The disliked guy as a player was Craig Bohl.
