Coach Sanders $10,000,000 per Year

Uhhh how about a year where they win 2 games against the top 10 teams in their own conference......then someone might admit to something.

They were a Baylor blunder OT game away from having 0 wins against the top 10 teams of a 16 team conference....

We love to play the "what if" game at Nebraska. How many games could we have won if a "what if' moment didn't occur. That's part of the game good and bad. "What if" the Matt Davison immaculate reception falls incomplete? "What if" Dr Tom kicks the xp instead of going for two against Miami in 83.

Do I need to go thru all the "what ifs" from the Frost era and the first two of the Ruhle era? Blunders and luck and circumstance happen all the time. Facts of the matter is no matter who they beat and when they beat them he has exceeded the expectations of most or MANY vocal husker fans. From some of the stuff I read he would be either fired because he was horrible and it imploded. OR he would be gone to the SEC or FSU if he somehow miraculously did well.

In either case AS OF NOW guys were wrong on all accounts...

Lol…what “facts” are those…how about you sack up, quit speaking in code, and spit some truth? Either that…or STUF.

.

Facts are they are paying the man 10 million dollars a year for what he's done. Where they got it from and if they have it is speculation. How's that for facts?

I'm sorry.....take my "what if", on Baylor, out of it. They won 1 game against the top 10 teams in the Big 12. Good point. You sure got me.

Not my argument, but if you're just talking financials, quick google search gives you some facts since Sanders' arrival:
  • 22 of Colorado’s 24 games have been selected to be on network television or the flagship ESPN
  • The two highest average home attendance seasons have been 2023 and 2024
  • Colorado was 6th in viewership during the 2024 regular season...trailing only Georgia, Ohio State, Alabama, Texas and Michigan
  • The football team generated $31.2m in ticket sales in Sanders’ first season in Boulder (a 4-8 record), according to the annual University of Colorado athletics NCAA financial reports. The program had $13m in ticket sales the year before his arrival
  • Colorado has seen its applications to attend the school increase 20% from a year ago
  • Home football games have meant a combined $93.9m in direct economic impact for Boulder and $146.5m in regional economic impact, according to the school
Or here's an opinion from someone who might know something about his economic impact:

“To be honest, I don’t think that anybody fully was prepared for just how much national and international attention Coach Prime would generate for our community and the economic benefits that it would also engender,” John Tayer, the president and CEO of the Boulder Chamber, recently said in an interview.

Seems to me like a no-brainer great investment to keep Sanders around for a measly $10M/year.

But, but, but, but...just wait...he's gonna implode, or leave, and what if, or shit show or something something something 🙄

I think the majority of this is the comment that he's returned then to a national power.....which is why I point out that they were a skid mark on the underpants of essentially every team they played that had a winning record.

And that his team played in an awful conference where his 3 5 star players are probably 3 of 3 for the whole conference, where the week in and week out see inferior competition.

This can make sense financially and still be a complete farce of a narrative.

Yup and nothing changes. They won the games they won and beat who they beat. Enough so that the brass is giving the man a handsome raise. We as Nebraska fans don't have to believe in him. We still don't even have to think he's a good coach. I'm not even sure he's a good coach tbh. I've always said it'll be more about the assistants that he hired. But what we can say without doubt is that those who said he wouldn't last as long as he has and how this thing would blow up in his face SO FAR have been dead assed wrong. For whatever the reasons or excuses we wanna choose.

Maybe two years from now it falls to pieces ...but right now guys are wrong.

Thank you sir for the research. If he's making the university that kinda scratch and bringing them that kinda attention relative to where they were before it's a no brainier. People for whatever reasons don't like to admit when they were wrong

Last long? It's been 2 years....Name any college coach that was fired after 2 years for performance....I'll wait.

How would a detractor be "dead ass wrong"? He only beat 3 FBS teams last year with a winning record last year. I'd say he proved them "dead ass" right....

We tied for 14th in our conference and blew them out....

Yeah, I hear you. I was replying specifically to financial related post by one of our (many) resident Deion goal post movers.

The whole "national power" thing is certainly subjective. No, they're not a "national power" by our definition. But, it's pretty hard not to at least somewhat acknowledge that taking the worst team in D1 college football and finishing in the top 25 in just 2 years is nothing to sneeze at (although most here won't). I would have gone with "nationally relevant" but that's just me.

If anyone's being honest, the fact is, he's done a ton of great things for that shit stain program and seems to continue on an upward trajectory, despite all the "yeah, buts" from our fanbase. The dude has earned his salary.

I'm not impressed if you take a roster full of 4 and 5 star players, and beat a bunch of 1 year removed mountain west teams, but lose to essentially everyone else.

But relative to the absurd hype he's brought them by being "a successful black coach who's beating back racism and changing the sport" then yes he has earned his salary from monetary value alone.

Yes it's been two years and he has gotten a huge raise for what he's done. He's won more games over those years than expected. He's brought national attention to CU and Increased their revenue as well.

A detractor would be wrong as if right now because he hasn't failed. In fact he's exceeded expectations and has been rewarded financially for it. Who he's beaten is who he has beaten. How did CU do beating those same teams BEFORE he got there. Better or worse?

WHEN or IF he falls on his face you guys will be right but until then his progression has proven you wrong whether you wanna admit it or not.

Has he exceeded expectations? They won 3 games the year they played a P5 conference schedule.....Then they cleaned up a bunch of MAC and CUSA schools and lost to everyone else.

Serious question. What were the expectations when he got there?

No need to wait. "Rado's" previous head coach didn't even make it two years. He was fired for performance five games into his second season.

I'm not a huge Deion fan, but Good Lord - obsess much?
The point that was that Colorado was not going to fire, or even judge deions success or failure, after 2 seasons....or pay back to back buyouts in 4 years.....so what point is the poster trying to make by saying "all the the haters said he'd fail and here he is in year 2, still employed" Duh...even the biggest haters didn't rationally think he'd be fired in 24 months.

Yes, Colorado sucked previously so not too tough to show improvement, which they definitely have, both on and off the field. We’ll see how it goes moving forward.
Willing to bet if he has a couple subpar seasons it all falls apart quickly. Of course he’s not going anywhere now that the university was stupid enough to pony up 10 million a year. Have to give the dude credit. He’s played them like a fiddle.

Either way, it really doesn’t affect Nebraska, as we kick their ass the last time we played them and won’t play them again during his current contract. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

.

Year #3 is almost always the telltale of how things will turn out, cu has some good talent, will it be enough to have another winning season? We will find out.

In that conference, if you have average talent, it’s almost impossible not to have a winning season. They’ve got a good transfer QB coming in, so I don’t see them having a losing season, but that doesn’t mean they’re a good team…just means they’re an average team and I’m below average conference.

Go look at the record before he got there. It'll tell you all you need to know. You clearly won't see it though I'm sure. It's ok to not like the man. It also ok to think his family is "scum" I think is how you put it. But to not acknowledge he has improved their program on the field and financially is borderline crazy. But to each his own believe what you want if it makes you feel better.

Why have a Husker message board subscription to white knight for Colorados scum ass coach and program?

You triggered huh? It's ok brother we just trying to show you that even though you think he's the devil himself. He's actually doing a good job for CU.

You gonna attack ME now for pointing that out? Am I "scum" too? What about all the others itt who are pointing it out for you. "Scum" too? Sigh....

Absolute scum. And all he's done is bring them hype by being a successful black coach who's beating back racism and changing the sport. Don't forget that little nugget from him.

So we are going to talk about him resurrecting a national power and earning a massive raise, but then set the perverbial comparison bar at "look at what they didn't the year before"....a year where they were playing a full schedule in a different conference. That makes no sense.

Oh no, did I hurt your feelings by pointing out that deion and his felon son are pieces of shit? The "good" son shoved a ref this year. I guess if you feel like associating with that makes you scum too, I wouldn't argue. Or else we could just look at you defending Rado on its own and come to the same conclusion.

I'm good. I'm confused why there are half a dozen guys in here defending Colorado and Sanders, but I'm good. I already made my point, and that is that the dude has 3 wins over FBS teams with winning records in 2 years, and he just lost 90% of his offensive production.

He might have earned some money for his celebrity value, but that program is a top 25 schedule away from the house of cards blowing completely over.

Definitely triggered you lol. But like I said 18 times previously I don't care about his scum kids or him being the boogie man to some of yall. That stuff is way too personal for yall. Dude living rent free in your head and you don't even know him . Imagine not liking someone so much when you don't even know him that it hurts you when that person does well. After you (I assume) predicted he wouldn't.

As far as me defending Colorado? Feel free to shift blame elsewhere after every BS thing you said it was shot down and called out by myself and other posters who can see those goal posts moving lol.

More than one thing can be true. You can be a fan of a team and absolutely hate another team while acknowledging when their coach and program are actually doing better. At least most grown ups can...

I didn't start this thread. I'd guess my Sanders mentions on this board probably coincide with the last 2 times we played them, and that's it. If that's rent free, then you got me.

As for being upset when someone you don't like does well......Have you looked around the last 8 or so years? They're literally firebombing teslas right now. Cancel culture. There was a planned "economic blackout" just to protest people you don't like being successful. Right or wrong it's a pretty standard reaction to not wish success on people or institutions you dislike.

I'm not going to wish physical harm on deion, and I've already acknowledged that he earned this money with monetary value added to the university.... but I am not going to pretend he's built this super successful program(with no notable wins and mass coach and player turmoil) or that he's a good person that cares about anyone but himself or his kids.
