Coach Sanders $10,000,000 per Year

I still intend on being proven right.....that once his roster isn't full of kids with his last name, his rediculous roster management will sink the ship.

I think it would've happened this year except they somehow managed to not play like 3 of the 4 top teams in their awful conference.
Agreed, but where else can they turn too ? When he does leave, it will be more interesting who the AD gets running this program forward..

Boulder is filthy rich.....as is much of the state. If they wanted to, they could build a really nice program....

To be in the top 1% of the wealthiest people in Colorado you have to have a min of 4mil in the bank. In Nebraska, that number is 1.5mil

There are over 170K people worth at least a mil in CO, to 43K in NE

Boulder is a cool town and they have a cool campus. It's not a reach to think they could do some damage.

Much of the wealth in Colorado is transplanted wealth with no real ties to CU, and there historically has been a big faction of the Boulder community that is more against the CU football program than for it. For those reasons, I just don't see CU ever really being able to harness the wealth in the state to back the football program. Most CU fans I know are definitely happy that the program isn't a national embarrassment anymore and is on the nations radar again, but are not huge fans of all that comes with Deion and don't think he'll be there long, especially now that his kids are gone. To my knowledge, CU has never paid top dollar for any athletic team coach before, so it will be interesting to see how this plays out for them/Deion. From a Nebraska fan perspective, we know all too well the downside of handing out big contract extensions at the first wiff of success.

Maybe they had a secret AFLAC policy pay off. I don't mind Coach Prime, he makes things interesting and entertaining, and I think he's a good coach.
For me, it's all relative. Now that my beloved Huskers curb stomped them in Lincoln I couldn't care less about Deon. Their fans however are super obnoxious jag offs with delusions of superiority.

My wife went to Boulder High and her family owned a nice biz in Boulder till recently, and still live in Broomfield, and I agree with a lot of what you typed...but just look at the financial support he's garnered in 2 years. No reason to think it can't continue to grow. Prime has made it cool to he a Buff fan, and it only takes a few boosters to make a huge splash. Its a whole new ballgame now.

You lost me at "cool to be a buffs fan"

PLUS, and do not under estimate this...you can buy pot and hash legally there, and what CFB player isn't going to love that?
If you have a Colorado U shirt in your wardrobe, then you can get out. And no offense, and I say this with all due respect....but your girlfriend and her family sound horrible.

What was respectful about anything you just said?

My wife is a CSU grad, her folks NU grads....top one percenters in their state, and in our family dynamic, i'm the loser. She could have dun a lot better than me.

Prime proved a lot of people on these boards wrong. I think his level of success is definitely "bolstered" by CU lol. But many said he would either quit or be gone on to greener pastures after this thing blew up in his face. Most were wrong...

Holla
He has 10 million reasons to stay at CU in addition to legal weed. No other college or NFL team would pay him what CU is. Of course he’s staying.

There’s plenty of reasons to think it may not continue to grow. The novelty is going to wear off regarding viewership. If he has a couple subpar seasons, (6-8 wins in that conference should be close to automatic) the donations, & sponsorship/advertising revenue will dry up quickly.

I suspect that this year’s results are pretty much the ceiling for CU and Sanders. But the financial benefits of Deion’s tenure will most likely continue as long as they’re at least making bowl games. We’ll see I guess…

The top 6 in the BIG 12 standings:

ASU
BYU
Iowa St
Rado
Baylor
TCU

Somehow Rado only managed to play 1 of those in the regular season. A lucky lucky OT win against Baylor. Then got absolutely blown out by BYU in the conference championship.

Then they lose to KSU at home and Kansas. The 8th and 10th best team in the conference.

They beat only 1 of the top 10 teams in their own shitty conference. So I 100% agree with you that I think that is this year was their ceiling, and it was the biggest sham team and heisman winner in modern NCAA history.

I dont get why people are mad at CU or laughing at them for doing this. WTF are they supposed to do? Hire some mac coach no one has heard of and drift back to irrelevancy? I said when CU hired him its a great hire for CU…they were HORRIBLE and had zero momentum or optimism. Never on tv.

Last year CU game was huge….one big reason was because of prime.

This is absolutely the right move for CU to try to lock him up. Will he make the playoff? Probably not but who would at CU short of an already established coach who would never go there?

When you cant compete with programs that follow the traditional method you have to be untraditional.

I dont think anyone is saying this is a bad move for prime or for Rado. I think the whole focus of this was them being a national power program, which is absolutely laughable.

"Coach Prime has revolutionized college football and in doing so, has restored CU football to our rightful place as a national power," Colorado athletic director Rick George said in a prepared statement. Huh?????

Lost his son as a QB and the best player he'll ever have.

All downhill from here. He'll actually have to coach, and recruit, and build players.

I have zero doubt the coming shitshow will be enjoyable to watch unfold.

I always felt there was a better chance of this not working but he's also exceeded my expectations so far so WTF do I know. Be fun to watch unfold going forward though.

It’s been an all-win scenario for all parties to this point. For CU, Deion, Shedeur, Travis, and Boulder. Shedeur and Travis are moving on as they must, which has been the anticipated turning point. Many expected that Deion would bolt at this point. But some things came together to make it agreeable to stay.

For one, his team did well this year and weren’t eliminated from CFP potential until last weekend of regular season. He has more coaching credibility than last year after 4-8. His marketing exposure and revenue have exploded while at CU. His marketing prowess propelled two Heisman trophy candidates and one winner. And his recruiting and marketing model may be sustainable in the crazy new landscape.

He thought that maybe he had enough momentum to break into the NFL with his son(s). As it turned out, not quite. But the CU gig is still very good. He has complete control of a P4 program with a university/community that appreciates all that he has already done, and that helps his brand visibility and marketing revenue. And Boulder just captured the Sundance Film Festival. Deion can probably make money off that too.

The bar was laying on the ground when CU hired Deion. To his credit he has raised it, but that bar has been raised dramatically now that they are paying him like he is Nick Saban. I'm sure there are alot of people in Boulder going bat s$%t crazy they are paying a football coach $10 mil/season.

I mean sure. But it was one of the funnest wins in the past what the past 8 years. Loved watching shaduer throwing that pick six on the goal line. I haven’t cheered like that for years
Of course. It was awesome

If we were playing doormat 1-11 CU, it wouldn’t have been on the same continent

You could be proven right eventually but as of right now you would be wrong.

How long does he have to go before people admit they missed it?

Fwiw I always thought he would do as good as the assistant coaches he hired. He will some talent in there.
Sanders is going to have to pay top dollars to bring in the type players he wants to be successful. He doesn't have his kids anymore that can make him look good. Let's face it, you got to have big money to buy the top players if you want immediate success and I'd like to know where CU is going to get that type of money unless they have a secret donor ponying up the cash. jmo

They are paying him 10 mil a year. Apparently the demise of the CU bank roll by Husker fans has been greatly exaggerated. Evidently they have some money laying around somewhere.

Either that, or their mortgaging their future….which I believe is a better bet

Uhhh how about a year where they win 2 games against the top 10 teams in their own conference......then someone might admit to something.

They were a Baylor blunder OT game away from having 0 wins against the top 10 teams of a 16 team conference....
