"Coach Prime has revolutionized college football and in doing so, has restored CU football to our rightful place as a national power," Colorado athletic director Rick George said in a prepared statement. Huh?????

Wow...good for him. I continue to be wrong about him. I think it's a good move for Colorado, but I feel like Prime might have better opportunities if he has some more success there. We'll see I guess

So he must not be going anywhere like many believed including myself.
He’ll be 58 in a few months and has had numerous health issues. The belief he might become a rookie NFL coach at that age was perhaps unrealistic. And of course it seems his greatest value is as a college recruiter not necessarily as a coach.

Colorado must have some huge donors because the school sure doesn't have that kind of coin to throw around if i remember correctly.
they didn't before Deion arrived

in the two years since, back to back record breaking revenue years

https://www.denverpost.com/2025/01/...ue-expenses-in-2024-fiscal-year/?noamp=mobile

add in the fact his team won 9 games on the field, and I'm surprised people consider this anything but a no-brainer (lol jk)

certainly did more to earn this extension than Frost and Hoiberg did theirs

Since Prime has CU bent completely over, I'd be willing to bet he has favorable exit terms cooked in. Maybe not, but I'd be surprised.
"If Sanders accepts another coaching job before the end of the contract, his buyout would start at $12 million if he left on or before Dec. 31, 2025, followed by $10 million in 2026, $6 million in 2027, $4 million in 2028 and $3 million in 2029. He can retire from coaching, though, without having to pay damages to the university -- as long as he doesn't retire and then return to coaching somewhere else."

Prime Deal: Deion Sanders lands $54M extension at Colorado

I would say the only jobs he would take now are FSU or the NFL. If it is the NFL the buyout will never be $12 mil, because their season doesn't end until January.

LOL - 2 wins against P5 opponents with winning records last season (one on a hail mary) and they are a national power again, un-huh.
"National power " may be hyperbole but he has drawn incredible attention to a program that otherwise no one would give two sh*ts about. He'll have a couple of top 10 draft picks, a good QB recruit coming in and lots to sell. Like him or not, he's a master at generating buzz. He makes his players do things right. I kind of admire that. Now he can sell kids on being around.

Color me surprised. I still don't understand how he makes that sh*t show work.
Like Indiana, the liberal transfer rules (and genetics) really helped, i.e., Hunter plus his kids. We’ll see how he does without them. It also helped in 2024 that the Big XII was considerably weaker than the last season of the PAC. It will be interesting to see if Utah and Okie State get back on the beam and give ASU and CU a tougher time. (While he doesn’t get Sanders’ constant press, I think Dillingham’s turnaround at ASU was more impressive and of course they too benefitted from a much easier conference.)

We still beat them on the field and are better off the field. CU will never be anything but an afterthought for most Nebraskan's, but the state does have something Nebraska doesn't have and that beautiful mountains, lakes, and forests, and that's the only thing they beat Nebraska at.

Good for him - would tap the brakes on the national power. I have dogged him repeatedly - he’s put eyeballs on the buffs and butts in the seats and that’s worth lot. Is he the highest paid in the Big12?

Because that conference is horrible from top to bottom. There is a reason they have double the 1000 yard rushers and receivers compared to the BIG or SEC....its because top to bottom the conference is shit, so you plug in a couple NFL players like Sheduer or Hunter and they can rack up stats against defenders that couldn't make BIG or SEC rosters.

Makes players do things right? Interesting take.

Yep. Went from a good schedule to a really, really bad one. That’s the improvement.

Definitely. He's the show man. He's got coordinators and some former pros there to do all of the work. The main thing Deon has to do is keep his mouth shut a little more often and things will go more smoothly in Boulder. But I'm not so sure that CU is going to keep winning as much as they did last season. They had a top QB, the best WR in college football and the best corner in college football. Plus they lost their top four WRs. That's a lot to replace.

Prime proved a lot of people on these boards wrong. I think his level of success is definitely "bolstered" by CU lol. But many said he would either quit or be gone on to greener pastures after this thing blew up in his face. Most were wrong...

I still intend on being proven right.....that once his roster isn't full of kids with his last name, his rediculous roster management will sink the ship.

I think it would've happened this year except they somehow managed to not play like 3 of the 4 top teams in their awful conference.

Sanders is going to have to pay top dollars to bring in the type players he wants to be successful. He doesn't have his kids anymore that can make him look good. Let's face it, you got to have big money to buy the top players if you want immediate success and I'd like to know where CU is going to get that type of money unless they have a secret donor ponying up the cash. jmo

He exceeded expectations and, if their current improvement trajectory continues, he is worth the money. I expect them to regress and regret the deal, but he has proven me wrong up to this point.

So, same as Rhule average at Nebraska:
2023: Beat 8-5 Northwestern
2024: Beat 9-4 Colorado
2024: Beat 7-6 Rutgers
2024: Beat 7-6 Boston College

Felt good to beat Wisconsin, but they sucked.

One difference nobody in the NU administration has come out and said we are a national power. Especially the AD

He got his money and he got a lot of attention. His two main needs in life. He makes sure the cameras show his good side.

Two years of showcasing an elite college talent and his son at QB, he is very average on the field. Sub par in a tough conference and B12 upper quarter not playing the other top teams in conference.

Put eyeballs on himself, his kids, Hunter and the team. He generates hype and attitude. People will pay to be around that.

Let’s see how his assistants keep making the players better.

He still comes across as genuine as Joel Osteen because he talks of faith and character and has gansta rappers in the locker rooms.

We don’t have Colorado on the schedule so unless the Huskers see them in a bowl game or they land a potential Husker recruit, my interest in Colorado is as high as is it like that Shilo Sanders will make an open field tackle, not much.

Boulder is filthy rich.....as is much of the state. If they wanted to, they could build a really nice program....

To be in the top 1% of the wealthiest people in Colorado you have to have a min of 4mil in the bank. In Nebraska, that number is 1.5mil

There are over 170K people worth at least a mil in CO, to 43K in NE

Boulder is a cool town and they have a cool campus. It's not a reach to think they could do some damage.

Calling CU a national power is cringe-worthy, but you knew they had to give Sanders what he wanted. The entire athletic department was on life support when he got there, and now it’s in the black. I’m not sure anyone at CU seriously thinks he’s going to build a conference champion or a playoff team, but it’s better than offering a 4-pack of football tickets for $50 and still not being able to sell them.
