Tommy will test it tonight, should know more tomorrow [Tuesday]. Ryker is unknown if he can play or not. They will get Darlington ready to go.
Coach just stated this on his Monday press conference.
He also mentioned possible Wildcat packages with Lamar Jackson. That would be a new wrinkle and I would love to see that with Lamar or possibly Darlington even if Fyfe and TA are able to play. Throw everything at Iowa.
Love it!Oh wow, Lamar Jackson would definitely be a wrinkle.
Love it!
Wouldn't it be great if the offense came out and really threw Iowa for a loop and steamrolled them?
For sure. But as an added wrinkle to the rest of the offense? I like it.We can hope, but Iowa's traditionally been pretty good run defense. And they shut down Peppers and Michigan a week or so ago.
We might get a good play or two out of it, but I would think after a while, they are just going to make adjustments.
If we win on Saturday, its going to have to be a complete team effort. I don't think Jackson or DPE or Darlington will continually shredding their D if we basically operate zone-read and wildcat all game.
Yes Iowa seems to have really surged and clicked on defense as of late. So have we. Too bad both of our offenses are probably going to stink.Hawks won't waste any practice time other than a traditional base 4-3 in practice and quarters coverage. Sprinkle in an occassional blitz and there you have it! They were very, very well prepared for Michigan and the Wolves were very surprised by their physicality, we steamrolled Illinois thus Friday should be a good game. However, if a 50 percent Fyfe or TA is playing, Iowa will bring more pressure similar to when Kellogg III started 3 years ago. I will say that we haven't been tested too much via the air except for a few times vs. Michigan, backups have played very well and a true freshman is now playing CB opposite King who reminds everyone of a young Des King.
Meatchicken had a statue for a QB. NU not so much. No matter who our QB is, they are mobile. Armstrong and Darlington are VERY mobile.Hawks won't waste any practice time other than a traditional base 4-3 in practice and quarters coverage. Uh oh...you said the word "statue"Meatchicken had a statue for a QB. NU not so much. No matter who our QB is, they are mobile. Armstrong and Darlington are VERY mobile.
Very mobile and "pulled hammy" usually don't go together, we shall see. Hammys are probably one of the trickiest injuries, no wraps, pain meds or anything do much for them, for me when I pulled one, felt like a rubber band on the inside of your leg pulling completely apart, took a month before I could run at even 75%. My read is that TA plays at some point but Jaleel and Josey will be licking their chops, I like the good guys eiher way...Meatchicken had a statue for a QB. NU not so much. Oh no. You've convinced me. We should just forfeit...Passing offense? No, easily the weakest WR group in the Big 10 even perhaps the P5 and if you throw Vandeberg back in there they might still be, he'll be back next year after a med RS. However, the run game has really surged and Iowa has found Wadley in the passing game too, some of the quickest feet I've ever seen in an Iowa RB dating back to Ronnie Harmon.
Good news. This almost certainly means no shirt burning. They will patch it together.
Um, that's not what Riley said at all.Refreshing to hear that they have some wrinkles/packages that Darlington has been consistently practicing.

Riley: "We have to have a good package of plays that fit what Zack can do," if he is to be the starter. #Huskers

I would bet money that TA starts. The question will be how long can he go. I would not be one bit surprised to see him start and play the whole game. I could also see him start and come up lame the first series. We won't know until he tries to go.Remember when there was no way that Tommy was gonna play against Minnesota? Hmmm...
Not saying he is gonna be ready, but I don't think we should count him out either. We won't know for sure until Friday who's good to go and who isn't...
I think Fyfe will be good to go. At ten+ days out on an orthopedic procedure like he had the stitches are out and most of the pain and swelling will be gone and a callus will be forming. It will be a soft callus but with the pin in there he should have reasonably good stability. Pad the top side, give him a couple of Tylenols and 4 Ibuprofens and tell him to give em hell. I really don't see Fyfe having a problem playing the whole game if need be.Sorry, Armstrong will not be remotely close to his normal mobility with that hamstring injury. If he is able to go, Fyfe will be playing with a hand cast so I doubt that you want him running around holding a football. That leaves Darlington as the last man standing at QB - he is indeed very mobile but its a risk of you devise a game plan with that in mind. At that point, you're one big hit from snapping it to a RB and hoping for the best.
Pretty sure he was saying that 10 days out there's almost no pain. 5 days there might be pain, but it will be bearable.Didn't Fyfe just have surgery two days ago? The anesthesia hasn't even worn off yet. lol. the game is in three days, that makes five days in old school math.
You're right. I had a senior moment. He'll still be ready to go IMO. Most of the pain and swelling will be gone and his fracture will be stable or at least a bunch more stable than it was in the 4th quarter. It will just be a matter of how much pain he can stand if he hits it and I suspect that he can handle a lot. Tough kid. Ball security could be an issue if he tries to hold the ball in his left hand but other than that he should be fine.Didn't Fyfe just have surgery two days ago?
