Coach Cal to Arkansas?

BYU's coach is a Pope. Interesting.
Their fan base is melting down on X. I actually think the dude is a pretty solid coach, but like every nutjob fanbase (including us) their fans are flipping out and hate their AD right now. If he wins though, they will all say how on board they were from the start.

They could have got him anytime though. They totally wiffed but maybe it will workout for them. They should have stopped bitching about Cal.

They may have whiffed, but that dude might be actually exactly what they need. He looks like a solid coach and if he is at a place where he gets much better players..... UK could be decent.

At least Pope won’t be overwhelmed by the fan base and how they act and what the expectation is there. But I agree they dug their own grave with Coach Cal.

Weird I was told UK was the premier job in all of college hoops and not some has been playing in a rundown shopping mall in front of 15,000 cheapskate mouth breathers

It’s not 1943 anymore I guess
Kentucky isn’t what it once was perceived.

However, Lexington is a very nice big city. I don’t drink anymore but when I did, it was one of the best places to eat good food and have some bourbon.

Kentucky fans went batshit crazy after the first round exit. Those fools deserve this. It’s time to CAL the Hogs.

If you want another 30 examples they are easy to find. So keep on looking like a fool.

Oh wow, an opinion piece!

classic

UK hoops is the same as texas a&m football
Ehhh...I don't agree. I think Kentucky is still one of the top 3-4 jobs in the country. Big money. Huge following. Cache' with recruits. Problem is super high expectations, a sometimes questionable AD and no one wants to follow Cal. He was too big a figure just like Dean Smith or John Wooden.

What you are starting to see happen is a few things...UK is not the job that it once was...

1. NIL changes the game. UK was the best program in the country at "cheating" but that is pretty much gone now.

2. Coaches salaries are so big that "offer them more money" is not the draw it once was, to some.

On a side note...they went after Drew, who, is not an up and comer...dude has been at Baylor for 21 years and loves private schools.

sure, you think that.

the problem with this theory when tested in the real world is nobody in the actual profession seems to agree.

It is still one of the top programs historically, but due to insane expectations and NIL, I'm not sure it's a Top 5 job anymore. Lots of programs have big money and far less drama to deal with.

Kentucky Basketball right now is kind of like Nebraska Football after Solich/Pelini. Lots of money and a passionate fanbase, but no longer has any other advantages and has crazy expectations.

Just because some guys turned it down? People do that for all sorts of reasons. None of us know exactly the thinking that Oats/Hurley/Drew/etc. used in making their decision. The Kentucky job is still one of the biggest/best in the game. If Pope is as good as I think he is, he will do very well there. One donor has reportedly committed $4 million to their NIL today. That's pretty big time.

nobody whose life is based on being competitive is staying in waco, tx when "one of the biggest/best" comes calling.

nobody.

Even though they weren’t on the Same level for years like Kentucky in BB . You are seeing a football program ( Clemson) going down a similar path.Dabo won because he cheated as a well as anyone over their stretch of glory. with NIL that advantage is gone.

Really? Drew won/shared the Big 12 title in '20 and '21 (toughest conference in the country) and won it all in 21/22. I'd say he's been plenty "competitive." He's a very religious guy and his wife hates being in the spotlight. Plenty of reasons for him to stay at Baylor. His salary is private but I assure you he's getting paid VERY well.

so, in other words, he views Baylor as a better job.

he and I would agree on that.

For him it may be. That doesn’t dismiss the fact that the Kentucky job is one of the biggest/best (I said top 3-4). Kansas, NC, Duke, UK, UConn…take your pick.

Typical dumbass response. If I'm a betting man you never played a lick of sports, because you clearly don't know shit about it.
Top 5 job in the country

(As long as you’re outside the top 30 head coaches in the profession)

Brutal thread for you, pal
