Championship after year 2?

I know many are saying Riley needs and min 2-3 years. For how bad we look this year I really don't see a drastic turnaround. Never know I guess.

My question for all those that are optimistic on Riley, can you name a coach who has took over a winning record program, had a losing record their 1st year, and then turned it into a championship team? I know there are probably some that have taken a losing record program, struggled their first year, then turned it around.

Nebraska hiring Riley was based on POTENTIAL only. That's why we've had to endure the never-ending posts from the resident experts here about how awesome Riley was going to be once he had better athletes, facilities, etc.

Now that we're into reality and the games are actually being played, we're hearing all sorts of other excuses. Injuries, no talent, lack of depth, and my favorite: the players are intentionally losing for Bo Pelini.

This won't stop until we go in a different direction.

I'm not beating the "everything will be okay" drum or looking to get into the Riley debate, I'm just treating this like a trivia question. Here goes:

Gene Stallings had a terrible record prior to getting the Alabama job. He went 7-5 his first year at Alabama, then won a national championship his second year.

Gary Patterson? TCU was 10-1 in 2000. Patterson took over for Dennis Franchione for the bowl game that year that TCU lost. Then went 6-6 the following year. That is somewhat close to what you asked.

Sorry, my bad - you are correct. He went 7-5, then 11-1, then 13-0 in this third season.
