The Huskers only managed 14 points against Rutgers. But the defense made it stick. Ceyair Wright was a big part of that with an interception. So was Buschini and both players were seen practicing in Blackshirts this week according to Sean Callahan of Husker Online.

It’s well-deserved for both players. Wright has been fantastic since coming off the bench against Illinois. Callahan also reports that Wright is working with the starters, alongside Tommi Hill. That would move Marques Buford to the slot and possibly Malcolm Hartzog to the bench, although he would still see plenty of snaps.

As it should be. Love Buford and thought he did an admirable job but he isn't a CB. He's much better fit at that safety and Hertzog imo isn't in the ball park at CB as Wright and Hill. I'm hoping we can be a bit more flexible and play some more man with these two on the field at the same time.

Let’s all hope that Hill can play the whole game.

Pretty proud moment for Boom. Not often a punter gets a Blackshirt... Has there ever? I'm certain there has but admittedly idk.

In a way, the punter is a part of defence essentially. Hold the field then flip it as best as possible to be conducive to the offense going out with favorable odds to score themselves.

My freshman son who plays corner watched the Rutgers game and was picking apart Buford’s footwork during the game. Now to be fair his cousin plays in the league and the kid has spent a lot of time drilling technique. But still - he’s 14.

That indicates the Nebraska secondary coach isn’t good at what he does if his players have poor technique.

Agree, but should add that he’s also been making his share of tackles….
which should never be necessary considering there’s 10 other guys to make the play ahead of him.

Butler just got here in time for fall camp & Buford is a Junior with a few bad habits give it time. I've been pretty impressed with Butler in his short time here and am excited to watch what he can do with these guys. Ceyair is a prime example who has benefited, Butler will get much better too if he listens to Butler and applies himself

Yes and I absolutely love Buford and a couple of those other guys as well. But he's been outta position. Hopefully we start getting some of these guys some more work. Let's get some talent out there in the Field.

That's badass for the punter.

Great achievement for Ceyair too.

I hope that kind of effort and performance not only speaks of their fortitude but also the coaching.

Hartzog is a better fit in the slot than Buford, IMO

He at least has ball skills

Buford seems like a perfect backup to singleton to me

Buford isn’t a corner

I prefer Hartzog in the slot and suspect this is how we’ll play a majority of nickel snaps (which is to say all snaps)

Hartzog was a CB and came on a freshman. He didn't seem to progress and in fact, WR's figured him out. So he moves to safety where the man to man aspect is less precise but he lacks the ability to come up in run support with his size.

Buford was a safety initially. He is great in run support, more physical with a WR but doesn't have the finess to be a CB consistently. He tends to get out of position and thus grabs.

I am not knocking either kid, they are both great kids, but there are skills and or stature they have not developed.

Great report, and well deserved. Really think Buford in the slot goes from being average (as a CB) to being a major asset. He is a pretty decent ball hawk and hard hitter. He is as fast as Hartzog and a good bit bigger.

If Wright starts, who doesn't? Unless he moves to Jack, has to be Gbayor or Bullock, right? Yikes. Both are really solid.

Gbayor isn’t great in coverage. Could be a situational deal, where Wright sees more snaps against spread passing teams.

Bullock has been a sparkplug for this defense. Probably the most solid guy all year. You don't take him out. I like Wright as a situational guy, although he deserves a shot at a bigger role, I don't think we can afford to go away with what's been working all year.

Pretty sure Alex Henery did, and I seem to recall they awarded one to the Jesse Kosch in like 96 or 97. For some reason I'm thinking Sam Koch as well when he kept us in all those games in 2005.

I think we will have a solid 4 deep at CB next year. Ceyair is a legit CB1. Blye Hill was trending towards playing before his injury. Have heard good things about Amare Sanders, Rahmir Stewart and Larry Tarver as well. Always the portal if we need another Ceyair. The S and rover spots have plenty of options with Caleb Benning, Donovan Jones. Buford brothers. Etc

Coach Matt Rhule Monday Press Conference Notes | Indiana-Expected Tommi Hill to play last week, but ruptured the plantar fasciitis during the tunnel walk - which is actually a good thing. He'll have a chance to play this week-Otherwise, we are pretty healthy-Coach Cignetti has done an amazing job, Indiana is a great team-Starting to feel the impact of the 2 minute time out-In college football now, if you lose a coach to another job, it can decimate the program--Thought we handled the transfer portal well this year-Our recruiting will get better and better - “we just have to win”-After Illinois we learned a lot of valuable lessons, thought we had the right attitude vs Rutgers and Purdue-Love being the underdog-Defense has played a lot better since Illinois, we made crucial mistakes at crucial times-Indiana Offense is balanced well between run vs. pass game-“A good year in college football moving forward is going to be 8-4, 9-3” cites unpredictability nowadays, especially with the enhanced amount of travel-We got better last week during the bye-Excellent practice today, thought the bye week came at a good time-Coach Rhule says a lot of players due things for their personal brand (such as excessive trash talk)-don’t want our team to do that-Coach Rhule struggled watching college football this weekend because of that^-Need to find ways to get long runs, but also appreciate the consistency of the run game-Catastrophic plays on special teams are killing us, but we also make good special teams plays-We study clock management every week, sometimes the announcers don’t and are completely wrong-The other week Dylan Raiola took an intentional sack instead of throwing the ball away, forcing them to use a timeout - these are things that may not be noticed-Dylan Raiola is there first thing in the morning, he’s on a whole other level-Coach Rhule came in a 4:30 AM and fell asleep in his office, Dylan Raiola came in and woke him up -Need every DB we have vs Indiana-The Indiana QB is playing just as good as any other B1G QB-Ceyair Wright earned a Blackshirt-Defense asked Brian Buschini to have a Blackshirt, so he got one as well-Going to need to steal a possession vs Indiana

-Injury update: Tristan Alvano day to day, kicked yesterday; expects Tommi Hill to play this week, was supposed to play last game but got hurt again running onto the field.-Indiana leading the Big Ten in passing and doing well in rushing. Haven't trailed at any point this season.-"Probably a top 10 team that we're facing" but not getting the credit in the rankings because they started unranked.-"Everyone has to forget the logos and the names"-Spent Saturday watching college football. Felt the impact of the two minute timeouts in a number of close games.-"I don't believe in running kids off" in response to building more traditionally instead of wholesale through the portal. Adds that if he had come from a different college he may have tried to bring more guys with him to begin.-Goal for the season is to be relevant and this is a relevant game.-Learned a lot of valuable lessons out of the Illinois game and applied those to Purdue and Rutgers.-Rhule loves being the underdog. (Huskers are not favored for the first time all season this Saturday)-Defense has played a lot better since the Illinois game where they didn't tackle the way they wanted to.-Javin Wright has done great since getting back.-Indiana game is a great one for Javin because of how athletic he is.-Size of Big Ten and travel across the league adding to unpredictability.-Statistics for teams traveling multiple time zones is in favor of the home teams.-Worked hard during the off week.-Faced some good teams over the first half of the season.-Good time for the guys to get away, even if that meant all they did was "sit in their dorm and watch anime or whatever".-"I hate talking about last year because I'm embarrassed by it"-Preparing for handling opposing crowd noise better this season. Handled it fine at Purdue and will get more of it at Indiana.-A lot of guys in college football playing for their personal brand.-"I'm all for a little trash talk" but there's a way to do it that doesn't show up the opponent.-Wants team to respect the game and Indiana is a good opponent to make plays and respect the game on a big stage.-Some of the rushing numbers are hurt by sacks and helped by speed sweeps.-Haven't had enough explosive plays and big runs.-Utilizing the fullback and tight end hardens your team.-"We might not ever be top 10 in passing" but will run power and iso and increase the physicality of the team.-Study every decision for clock management every week.-Use two outside services to help with game decisions for players and coaches.-Teams need to have a philosophy for clock management and players need to understand it too.-Loves that the two minute timeout brings a number of layers to how to handle the clock at the end of halves.-Dylan Raiola has improved the team with leadership, confidence, and belief. Tries to find 3 things every week to improve upon.-Need every corner you have against a team like Indiana. If Tommi is back Ceyair Wright and other corners will still be needed.-Awarded new Blackshirts to Ceyair Wright and Brian Buschini.-Players asked for Buschini to get one.-Taking a deep dive into special teams with what's working, what isn't, and who are the players that can make plays.

I watched Curt Cignetti's Monday press conference. I really like that guy. He smirked at the end about his comments at the media days ("Google Me"), but said it was something he thought he had to do (for a little confidence boost), but that his popularity now is from how well the team has practiced, prepared, and performed. I'm guessing there must be Google Me t-shirts all over Bloomington.
