Before the season began most people were predicting a 3-1 start to the season. I've seen posts that this is the least talented team ever or something like that. Well..considering we are a batted down hail mary fluke play away from being 3-1 I don't see where the surprise is?? If we are not that talented then it must be the coaching that we are 2-2 with no depth and injuries at key positions with a couple fluke losses then right?? Would there be this much pissing and moaning if we were 3-1 or 4-0 right now?? Probably...RollingLaughSickCan't have it both ways whiners.

But we're 2-2. If Southern Miss has a decent fg kicker, we very well may have lost that game.

And are you really so ridiculous to assume there would be so many people complaining if Nebraska were 4-0?

That premise would also imply that Nebraska is a well-coached, good football team at this point of the season.

I can't say that, nor can you. Nebraska is bad, record-wise and statistically.

Injuries are always a factor. Even in the FS, BC, and BP years believe it or not.

The only difference is that Riley's predecessor never won fewer than 9 games. And Riley won't reach that mark this year, and reached only a a few times over his very, very impressive longevity as a head football coach.

I'm not on a ledge just yet, but so far for me it isn't the record that is concerning, it is the way the team looks that bothers me. The problems running the ball, no pass defense and penalties are all really bad. That being said, I'll enjoy the win and worry about that stuff tomorrow.

Im still positive, but they are going to have to get their act together soon, I don't see too many easy games ahead.
it's just the dummy mistakes, like 71 offsides and interceptions, that bug me.

I've learned not to judge a whole fan base after a game from a internet message board.
it seemed like southern miss adjusted well at the half.
with this pass stop run, run stop pass offense we have. it seems like we don't get into a historical nebraska football type rythem.
but I suppose it might help us be diversified. we shall see

One or two more of those fluke plays, and you're looking at 1 and 3.
Glass half full, glass half empty
Either way someone needs to top that glass off!

For the last few years it has been pointed out that a trained monkey could coach the Huskers to a 9 win season with our schedule.
When Riley was hired we were told that he has never had access to the talent and resources that he has now. When people expressed concern before the season they were chastised because the staff hadn't even coached a game yet. When we lost to BYU we were told it was only one game When South Alabama scorched our secondary the cupboards were left bare. Now it is how could anyone be expected to win in their first year.
Remember the trained Monkey?

Truth is we could easily be 4-0 or 1-3 but for a few fluke plays. I think we clearly have more talent than S. Alabama and S. Miss. We were probably about even with BYU and probably behind Miami talent wise. It really depends which side of the fence your sat on before the season whether your optimistic or pessimistic now. Nothing has really been done to change either opinion.

I remember the trained monkey who left us a team with no positional depth that have is in this situation on defense.

I honestly don't think it would be much different if Pelini were still here minus a few amusing side line explosions and calling out fans and media in pressers after a loss. The team had plateud under Pelini and we're going to fall eventually as poor recruiting and attrition caught up with te team.

Do you realize that I could be coaching the team right now, and the excuses would stillbe the same?

It's just easier for some to bash the new DC than to take time to analyze what is going on, and look at what the new DC has to work with to try to make his scheme work.

Depth is an undisputed fact issue with this program, but again bash the guys who have been here since January.

With Pelini here, we'd still be 2-2.

You have your plate full coaching your fantasy team from your parents basement.

So says the well-spoken gent, who somehow believes there's nothing upsetting about the last 4 performances. I'll remember you, HBK4life --- It'll be easy because you have an icon with the Husker football helmet with lightning bolts in the backdrop. You're not outdated at all. Laughing

I'm guessing you're the dude in the stands who paints his face black with the skull thing, and when the camera pans to you, the color commentators don't really know what to say? There's just this uncomfortable silence that befalls the booth?

For sure this is it.

You can make that claim all you want but but there is no way of knowing that.

As far as what he has to work with, Riley doesn't have the guys to run his offense either so he change his scheme. Our secondary got lit up by 2 teams with considerably less talent. That is on the coaches.
