You're criminally misrepresenting Husker fans of the Bo Pelini era. Bo Pelini was fired because he repeatedly hit the same wall in big games, along with him being a complete douchebag benefited by Husker Nation (he's had an embarrassing career after us). We were thrilled when Bo got to 9 or 10 wins at first, because, and get this, we had a Callahan era that, wait for it... lowered expectations. Bo then never did anything else, showed undeniable disdain and underperformance in recruiting, and treated fans like crap.
We didn't fire him for the season we hope Matt Rhule has next year. We fired him for having the same season, every year, (in a crap B12 North) and showing the same coaching mistakes. So yes, we'd be thrilled with 9-3 next year. And if Matt started dogging fans, failing at recruiting, stubbornly staying in 2-high, and could never win a big game, etc, we'd probably fire him.
Or maybe you'd prefer to hear...I still have expectations, as the best husker fan on the board, that we win at least 1 natty every year. I have the highest of highest expectations. Frankly, I'm concerned you're romanticizing Bo or even Tom. Tom should've been dropped after losing in '83. I'm still on the fence about Bob. That's how high my expectations are.
Edit: I need a shower, can't believe we still have to talk about 'lowered expectations' on a message board in 2025. But I can't help myself.
