AKSARBEN didn't die a quick and lonely death, that was political. It was purposely sold to Douglas County so it could be given to UNO and FDR for pennies on the dollar. Ever heard of Don Everett? Owner CEO of Runza, well he offered $10 million more than UNO/FDR did for AKSARBEN and even told them that he would downsize the racetrack and barns area and give the rest of the land to UNO. I was @ the meeting when he put down a check for the whole amount and the County board didn't even consider his much better offer. So Don and the rest of us horsemen purchased a piece of land @ 60th & Q on a blighted piece of land that used to be the city dump and AMAZINGLY the city approved it and you now have a place there called HORSEMEN'S PARK. Which thrived and made money hand over fist despite all the competition around it. Then came this lil law banning indoor smoking which the casinos across the river don't have to abide by. Trust me put in sports betting, some one arm bandits, a table for guys to roll the bones @ 1 am and the place will be packed just like it is on Kentucky Derby day and every other huge racing days that keep it open.....
Revisionist history at it’s best! Aksarben was outdoors and smoking was allowed so using that as an excuse is irrelevant. The place wouldn’t have been for sale if it wasn’t a ghost town claiming it was because of UNO wanting the land doesn’t float. Let’s get back to the original question which was based on your claim that horse track gamblers would fill a casino and my question of where were these people when Aksarben was on life support?
