Calvin NOT N my bad....heard it wrong....

Riley pretty detailed and descriptive regarding the disappointment and how played by Calvin.

I get the Calvin didn't keep his word. However, I have heard a number of times on this board that we decided to move on from someone. That was even said today. If we make a scholly offer and then decide to "move on from them" or "cool to them," are we not doing the same thing?

Tom-- I have not heard that there were any accepted offers that were withdrawn. I would agree that moving on from an accepted offer, that would be the same thing. Obviously unaccepted offers are withdrawn or declined all of the time. If you know that there was an accepted offer that was withdrawn, I would be interested in hearing about those facts.

I can see if the offer was made with a contingency that we only take _____ number of players at that position, but if the school can withdraw an offer why isn't it OK if a player withdraws an acceptance?

Riley said in his press conference that JC committed to him "3 different times." Wow.

Tom: Because basic principles of contracts are that an offer remains revocable until accepted and committed (the meeting of the minds). So if we tendered an offer (even a tentative offer due to the fact that nothing is official until NSD) and a kid accepted it (and is listed as committed to us), I would have an equally big problem if Nebraska backed out as I would if a kid backed out. I am not aware of us taking a committed offer away from a kid (such as it is alleged Alabama did to have done with the grayshirt). Revoking an offer and revoking an acceptance are quite different legal acts.

However the damage can be mitigated if you give the school (or the kid) adequate time to find a replacement. Yanking an accepted offer on the day of performance is frankly perfidious at best.

All along it seems like calvin was playing with the coaches and fans making them think he was going to join Nebraska. His teammate in high school and usc commit hunter echols said during calvin's commit to wsu "GBR fans so mad", so this make me think he was joking around committing and decommitting to Oregon State & Nebraska and then flipping to wsu on signing day.

Hope Leach has fun with him....

I really hope for the best for the kid, I really do. I just know that in most situations (dating, marriage, jobs, parenting, SPORTS, etc) where the person's heart isn't 100% into it, things don't usually turn out well. That's why I'm so excited that guys like KJJ, Gebbia, Lindsey, et al seem very excited to be here. Happy and focused is huge for a freshman that we want to contribute right away.

Can you cite a time that Nebraska pulled an offer to a kid that was committed to us on the afternoon of NSD?

Does Williams pulling Calvin's offer the night before count? Did you see how many of us applauded this action?

The last laugh is on him. He get's to play for a complete hardass coach and spend the next 4-5 years of his life in Pullman WA.

Nope. I missed that along with everyone else.

Interesting that so many thought he was still coming here on NSD and he was still listed as a Nebraska verbal on NSD (likely to flake out again) without apparently even having a Nebraska offer.

Weird that there was so much interest in his announcement, even several Nebraska journalists following it live and tweeting live updates, when he didn't have a Nebraska offer. Those guys must really dig wasting their time and everyone else's time.

Weird that Calvin's buddy was clearly heard, at his announcement, saying that Nebraska fans were going to be mad that he was going elsewhere. Mad at what? Why would we be mad when, according to you, we were supposedly applauding the fact that he didn't have an offer from us?

Calvin cooled on us first (for the 3rd time) by the Monday or Tuesday before signing day. When that happened our coaches had had enough and decided it was best that Calvin not be a part of our program even if he wanted to come here on NSD.

I don't see a problem is what our coaches did in this specific situation nor was it hypocritical.

It's OK that you missed it. It's appeared here and on a number of boards. Tom and I don't follow recruiting that closely either.

Lol.

"It appeared on the internet therefore its true."

Things have also appeared on this board numerous times like serious argument that Bigfoot is real.

Cali kids in general seem especially prone to drama and attention. just a fairly uneducated opinion. often wondered why USC and UCLA get such top recruits but mostly underachieve. not sure its related.

Most Cali kids? That statement in itself is a bit dramatic eh?

I frankly don't have a huge problem either way. We got Lindsey to flip close to the end. I don't think he's a bad guy nor do I think Williams is a bad guy. Calvin may be flaky but there are far worse things to be in this world.

The non-stop discussion about this kid is ridiculous, and weird.
Not really. It was probably the most bizarre recruitment of the year, that ended with another bizarre twist on NSD, which was only a few days ago. Not to mention it involved a kid committing to Nebraska three times and this is a Nebraska recruiting board.
