Doesn't hurt to have a competent back up.More kicker drama for '25?!
3 o'clock high. Great movie.
To me, this only makes sense if the staff already knows that Alvano will no longer be a member of the team. Otherwise, you have three placekickers on a roster that may well be limited to 105 (that assumes he was promised a scholarship as a transfer). Or is he just here to compete, only to be cut in the fall if he can't beat out Hohl/Alvano? This ex-kicker will be interested to see how this plays out
I still have high hopes for Alvano

We do need a kicker that consistently kicks the ball into the end zone
I certainly have no inside info, I’m wondering if he might be contemplating a ‘medical retirement’ ?I still have high hopes for Alvano
Alvano won’t be here. You can read between the lines with what Rhule was saying last year about Alvano (negative) and Hohl (very positive) to see that the Cal kid is a backup. 105 roster is room for a backup kicker in case your starter get injured or the yipsCompetition? Easy ...take the best two and one moves on maybe? Alvano hasn't did anything as a Husker for anyone to have some type of confidence in imo.
I know he was injured but you can only take him based off what we've seen. For me I've actually been more impressed with Holt TBH.
May the best guys win...

Do our kickers get injured more than most? Alvano was out with an injury last year and Hohl was out for the spring with an injury.Alvano won’t be here. Thinking the same thing. Is 9-15 good??9 of 15?? Didn't we already have that guy?
We've had more. Seems like a high percentage over past25 yearsDo our kickers get injured more than most? Alvano was out with an injury last year and Hohl was out for the spring with an injury.
The injury bug should end soon. Foley had these guys kicking WAY more than they should have been. Also had them lifting weights, which is the dumbest thing in the world for kickers.Do our kickers get injured more than most? I thought Alvano should have gone into the portal instead of Nico. Alvano just never seems to be available. I also think you need 3 kickers even with 105 roster spots. We have to be able to reliably kick field goals if we want to be a good team.To me, this only makes sense if the staff already knows that Alvano will no longer be a member of the team. Very important in playing good defense.
What about a punter ? Do we have anybody?
Nebraska doesn’t need a punter. Dylan is in better shape and will run for first downs.
Not according to Rhule. He said last year he doesn't like to do that because he has so much faith in our kick coverage. I seriously questioned the comment at the time because it's pretty much basic football 101 that if you can kick it into the end zone, you do it every single time. Of course, that's assuming it wasn't just coach speak by Rhule because he knew we didn't have a kicker that could consistently do it. He's good at putting a spin on stuff like that.
Every body else does. Heck we were so bad and slow on coverage that it was about to make most sense to kick it out of bounds at take the 35Not sure if it was coach spin or not but I agree completely with you. If you can kick it into the stands do it every time. The extra 5 or so yards you might gain on a good tackle isn't worth the risk of a game changing return. Especially consider we haven't had our most talented guys covering kicks imo.
If you can just boot that bi through the goal posts and bring your defense on the field.
