A human dies doing something legal in the country he lives in and you post a smiley face?

Absolutely. You also forgot to mention my sarcastic "that's a shame." Figured I should point it out for you. Every one of those guys deserves to be gored right through the heart....if only they had one.

I should also say it would be great to see more of the tools that run with the bulls get gored too. <-----Smiley face

Edit: This isn't as much about the mistreatment of animals as much as it is about people doing stupid sh*t getting what they deserve. Although how much honor does it take to dual an injured animal with an IQ of 6.

I always root for the bulls in situations like that. That guy had it coming.

I do not think it is cool to watch a matador stick a bull with 10 spears until it slowly bleeds to death, all for people's entertainment.

Same with the running of the bulls. I am glad every time the bulls wins.

So, people who do dangerous acts for entertainment all have it coming? People who build sky-scrapers, people who clean building windows, people who do motorcycle jumping? Where do we draw the line in "he had it coming"?

To cheer someone's death is a bit too dark for me.

There are probably multiple lines to be drawn, but I'd certainly draw one somewhere between "cleans windows" and "publicly tortures animals to death."

If you don't have a sensible comment to add to the thread, please don't post it. Comparing stabbing an animal for entertainment until it slowly dies...to someone involved in construction or cleaning windows for a living is as ridiculous as it gets.

People clean building windows and build skyscrapers for entertainment? You're gonna have to introduce me to one of these dudes...I want to party with him!

If you re-read, I was differentiating between people who choose dangerous careers - entertainment like tight rope walking, motorcycle jumping - also other dangerous careers like cleaning windows on skyscrapers. The sentiment was if you picked a dangerous job, well you have it coming.

OP made it sound like the animal cruelty wasn't an important part but instead doing stupid shit.

Actually, both aspects are why I don't like this activity. I just didn't want to come across as a PETA member.

Only reason why I didn't like your OP is because I have a hard time believing you'd say something like this in front of the matadors wife. If you wouldn't (which is a good thing imo, makes us human) then why post it?

I wish there was video of a deer killing a hunter! Haha
there probably is one....somewhere? I don't know if you're serious, but I never understood the anti-hunting crowd and their cries of cruelty. Most things in nature die horrible violent deaths, or if their lucky they avoid predators and starve to death as their bodies fail them in one way or another. Mother Nature is a cruel bitch.

I don't think it is cruel...I just think the video would be funny!

This is the interweb. 90% of what is posted on chat rooms, facebook, Twitter, etc.. wouldnt be said in someones face.

Du.... ftw.

I don't think cheering for the human to die is particularly enlightened.

Human beings are of far greater value than any animal.

I would wager that poster's position on this falls predictably left/right...takers?

Why in the world would you turn a post about a bull fighter into a political spin? Jeez, some people can only see the world through left vs. right.

Left/Right Male/Female Religious/Atheist affects the way we look at the world.

I didn't make it political.

I passed no judgement. I did not condemn.

It was an observation.

I agree, but saying that this is the interweb's is a lame excuse to say bs that you wouldn't otherwise say to someone's face.

Kind of like the Facebook thread. Facebook isn't the problem, it's the users.

Many times I'll type something out and then I ask myself, "Would I say this to someone's face?" Sometimes I'll make changes to what I wrote and other times I won't.

Careful. You keep posting logic black holes like that post and you're going to go on @Cornicator 's list of sparing partners to simulate arguing with his wife.

I agree, but you are wasting valuable time if you are waiting for logic and civility to win the day on the internet.

This has absolutely nothing to do with assessing which has greater value. I would suggest you are far less than enlightened if you think that we aren't directed to be stewards of the earth and its creatures. I would say torturing an animal for entertainment is falling well short of that charge. I would also say that if you do stupid shit, you have to accept the consequences.

Edit - Just an FYI, I've been an avowed centrist for years. I agree with ideas from both sides of the aisle.

Of course I wouldn't say it in front of his wife. And I would have rather he got gored badly enough to just end his matador career and force him to change occupations. But like I've said, if you engage in risky behavior, the odds seem to always find a way of catching up with you.

Husker Du, your point about engaging in risky behavior and the odds catching up to you is true and at the same time objected to by many who just want to do what they want without consequences. It goes across all lines drawn: race, age, economics, etc.

I believe it has everything to do with assessing value.

Bull kills Man. smiley face=good for bull man had it coming.

If as you would say "Every one of those guys deserves to be gored right through the heart" (a call for death NOT for a change of profession, btw) then are we free to assume that you would also agree with the statement that "Every little boy lighting up ants with a magnifying glass should be burned alive"?

My point here is that it is bad form to cheer the death of an individual even if their behavior is deemed unseemly.

I agree that we are directed to be stewards of the earth and its creatures but nobody has claimed otherwise, your point is moot.

I agree that torturing an animal for entertainment is falling well short of that charge but then we were not talking about the merits of bullfighting.

I agree that there are and should be consequences for actions.

I just don't think we should cheer about a bull killing a man any more than we should cheer a lady falling off a cliff to her death while taking a selfie.

cliff 1 lady 0 hahahahah!

Now that is a back slapper...right?

See, that's where your thinking is incorrect. You mentioned that a human life is of more value than an animal, when we shouldn't be discussing the value of either in the first place, and frankly it shouldn't even enter into the equation when discussing an animal being mercilessly tortured. The animal has no concept of what is right and wrong. We humans, however, do.

A lady taking a selfie isn't callously slaughtering an animal, so again your thought process is flawed. These two scenarios aren't remotely equivalent. Although I have to admit, it would be funny to see her fall down while taking the selfie.

I guess I'm not sure what point you are making. I think we are in agreement that risky behavior catches up to you no matter what the circumstances are.

I know nothing about bull fighting, but I'll throw out a guess that the matador has said something in the past like "It would be a great honor to die in the ring... yada, yada, yada". So it actually might be a win-win for the both the matador and Du. They're probably already working on a statue of him to throw up in front of the arena. I could be wrong.

Seriously, sorry he died but I'm with the "against torturing animals for entertainment" group. I agree generally humans are more valuable than animals, but in specific cases it's a bit of a sliding scale. Winking

Throw in the fact that they smear petroleum jelly in the bull's eyes to obscure their vision, and the matador is fighting a blind, injured animal with an IQ of 6. Now some will understand why it's easy to root for the bull.

I eat a steak for entertainment......damn it is good. If I choked on it do I deserve to die for exploiting an innocent harmless animal? After all they are killed in horrific fashion for entertainment.

How can an animal that can't distinguish between right and wrong, be wronged?

.

Hoosker, I am not discussing the merits of bull fighting.

Your OP was not a picture of a dead bull run through with a sword and you lamenting the cruelty of humanity, it was a clip of a person being gored to death with your and others enthusiastic approval and stated desire that people like him die in like manner. Although, in fairness you did attempt to walk-back that comment.

It was this crass reaction alone to which I responded but then you know that just don't have the courage to address it.

Your attempt to make this about bull fighting and/or its cruelty or the animals intelligence or human morality is nothing more than a red herring diversion.

A lady taking a selfie isn't callously slaughtering an animal, so again your thought process is flawed.

My thought process is perfectly sound I am merely following your argument:

I would also say that if you do stupid shit, you have to accept the consequences.

Your argument then explicitly stated is bull fighting is "stupid shit" so he deserves death for his act.

These two scenarios aren't remotely equivalent.

I then conclude that selfies on the edge of a cliff are also "stupid shit" thus she deserves death for her act.

You created the link between the two issues (bull fighters get what they deserve and stupid shit gets what they deserve) not me its your logic not mine, flawed indeed.

As previously stated I agree that behaviors have consequences, I just don't cheer when people die facing them.

. Although I have to admit, it would be funny to see her fall down while taking the selfie.

I'm sure you would see it that way.
