Browns QB room

I don't think it's alleged with Watson

he settled with 23 different ladies

Yep. It's like breaking NCAA rules and losing schollies / bowl bans etc.

You better have something to show for it. Otherwise, it's just embarrassing.

Harbaugh is the example of how it's done.

Go big or go home. Break 'em all. Win the whole thing. Leave.

3 years later, when the NCAA catches up, not your problem.

Browns lawyers are putting in overtime trying to get out of this contract.

You have no idea how QB contracts work and salary cap ramifications!!!! Idiot.

Sarc...

...its what i'm told every time I dare question an overpriced player. Thought i'd try it out.

Mike Florio spends entirely too much time obsessing over quarterbacks and their contracts. He’s had his own lawyers go over this one. He alleges they have an out.

there appears to be one if they can prove he lied to them. That said, this would get tied up in the courts for years if they went that route. The attorneys would make a fortune and eventually they would probably settle for a percentage of his guarantee. I can't imagine Watson wanting to take it to trial if he sued them.

So is the new accusation grounds for terminating the contract? If so convenient timing for the Browns

If Watson wasn't such a flaming pile of shit and or had an ounce of integrity he'd make em a deal and move on. Having said that, the Browns are fvcking morons for ever doing that deal and deserve to be in this spot.

they were better last year with the patchwork of QBs they had than they are this year with Watson. The stupidity of some owners and GMs is astounding.

people forget that Florio is an attorney himself

practiced for a long time before starting PFT

buyer's remorse. They're idiots.
That jackass owner of the Browns just had to make that entire contract guaranteed which pretty much ruined it for the rest of the league because now everyone needs a huge guarantee. And now that the Browns have a horrible QB that they have to gut half their roster for next year, Jimmy Haslem wants to weasel out of it. Billionaires don't think that they should face consequences.

I was really impressed with Jones. Why did the Packers give him up? But the game was against the Giants so I shall temper my expectations.
I guess they thought Jones was too injury prone and on the downside of his career. I was surprised when they made the move. When Jones is healthy he's top tier with his versatility and explosiveness. The problem is he has only been fully healthy for parts of the last few seasons. Excellent pickup for the vikes.

Not just billionaires, seems millionaires do not want consequences either in the league.

Expand outside the game and seems very few do, even when they are clearly in the wrong.

I stole this:

"Despite ugly, troubling details and a looming NFL suspension, Cleveland shipped three first-round draft picks, one third-rounder and two fourth-round picks to the Texans in exchange for Watson. The Browns then signed him to a fully guaranteed, five-year, $230 million deal.
Where it stands: The deal has been a complete disaster for the Browns. Watson, 28, played in just six games in each of this first two seasons and was historically bad in Sunday's loss to the Cowboys. Then, on Monday, a new sexual assault lawsuit was filed against him — this one containing an alleged rape. Watson denies the accusations.

  • We're left with a bizarre situation, where many Browns fans (and possibly even front office members) are actively rooting for their most important player to face punishment for a horrible crime — and to be as terrible of a human as the allegations suggest.
  • Why? Because that would potentially allow Cleveland to void Watson's contract and get out of paying him the $130 million he's still owed. In fact, sports talk host Dan Le Batard suggested the Browns themselves planted this story."

This has to be the worst move in NFL history. At best, they will not have won anything and only paid him $130 million - at best.

Yeah, there are lots of ethical people who would opt out of a fully guaranteed 5-year deal for a quarter of a billion dollars. Or at least you would. I’ll try to think of someone else who would. Sadly, I’m not that ethical.

Well I wouldn't have sexually assaulted 20+ women to begin with so it's a moot point....he's a POS and as such I get he's not going to feel an ounce of remorse or do anything to help anyone else but himself.

Yep.

It's not enough for the Browns to shoot just themselves in the foot any longer; they've graduated to shooting everyone else in the foot as well.

Interesting conspiracy theory floated there. The Browns could tell the "victim" that they'll deposit 10 million in an off shore account for her if she accuses Watson publicly and wins a judgement. Hell they could outright pay her just to make the complaint. Lifestyles of the rich and famous. There's probably a thousand women in every NFL city who would have serviced Watson's needs for a dinner and some jewelry.......

NEVER ever discount the power of greed and money on the wealthy business owners. I'm not even sure it would be illegal to pay her to come forward IF they knew her story and believed it. 🤷‍♀️ It would be wild if that happened.

This is just one reason why the NFL cannot allow the Browns to guarantee that salary and then get out of it.

One side note: I heard a commentator make the observation that last week it didn't seem like Watson really cared much about how well he plays. And I believe that. Last year, when Flacco was playing well, Watson was parading around on the sideline wearing a stocking hat. He just seemed like a distraction and appeared not to be engaged with the OC or anything in particular. He was just there. That struck me as odd-- the next week and rest of the season, I believe Watson wasn't required to even be on the sideline. He had a surgery early before the end of the season and was told to stay home and rest!
