According to the @Huskers twitter, Blackshirts went to:
Dedrick Young, Maliek Collins, Josh Kalu, Daniel Davie, Nate Gerry, Byerson Cockrell, Josh Banderas, Greg McMullen, Kevin Williams, Jack Gangwish, Vincent Valentine

There's an expected starter missing from that list.

I'm also a little curious that the cornerback opposite Davie is listed on the depth chart as
Jonathan Rose, 6-1, 195, Sr.
OR
Joshua Kalu, 6-1, 185, So

But Kalu is the only one with a blackshirt

Because they aren't for everybody, contrary to recent popular belief.

Not the count for me, it's that Rose is actually listed as 1a on the "OR" above Kalu, if anything. Seems like either they're not as even as the depth chart suggests or something else is up.

Not sure exactly how many blackshirts is the right number. Not sure it's exactly 11. Last year we played more nickel than 4-3, so I thought it made perfect sense the nickel get a blackshirt. Not too far past that, but more than 11.

It is the current coaches call. Get behind it, or your agenda will show. It is year 1, and they alreadt understand more about traditions before their 1st game, than dipshit did in 7 years (when he wasn't busy complaining about everything) Rose could be suspended too, and once again that is the coaches call. I will turn on Riley quickly if he shows contempt for those who built this program and embarasses the program on a weekly basis.

Jack Gangwish's reaction. Wow.

One of a number of good decisions RIley has made since getting here was to call Charlie McBride and get his thoughts on the Blackshirt tradition.

I can't find the article recently where Rose-Ivey talked about how much the players from the rest of the country learn about the Nebraska tradition from local players, but here's part of what Cameron Meredith had to say as he finished up his career.

...he got here and saw Nebraska kids that would give their left arm just to get on the field for one series. Think that doesn't drive an outsider to push harder and learn about Big Red culture? "They really make you understand the tradition and the respect that they have for the program," Meredith said. "And I think that helps everyone here because everyone realizes how important it is, who they play for and what the 'N' on the helmet means."

The most inspiring guys, Meredith said, are some of those in-state walk-ons who won't even play. "To me, those guys are the heroes of the team," he said. "They don't ever see the field and they're making us better. Their name is not ever in the newspaper. They don't have pictures up, but those guys are the heart of our team."And then there are those in-staters who rise to become Blackshirts -- or even more.

Gangwish gets it. All reports he's the kind of guy who will bring everything he has every play, and every day in the weight room and you'd better not slack near him.

If watching those Husker Blackshirt Defenses of the glory years flat out killing people doesn't get you pumped for Husker football then get the f*%k off this board cause you aren't a Husker fan!!! GBR!!!
Lol. 90 percent of those highlight hits would now be personal fouls for basically hitting too hard. What a shame

Williams...not a backup.

Based on the press conference today, the coaches this year plan on doing what the last staff mostly talked about... move Maliek Collins all over the place on the line.

Better or worse, Collins may be our best pass rusher and it probably makes a lot of sense to put him on the end in some passing situations.

If Collins is at DE more than just a couple snaps a game as a change of pace, Williams may play about as many snaps as anybody on the DL.
