Big10 vs SEC Officiating Crew

I’m all for letting them play, but can’t stand the two-hand tackling of receivers when the DB’s ass is beat. Reward DBs for tough physical play and getting in good position, but don’t bail them out when they pull receivers down by the jersey.

Crew wasn't good.

Called hands to face 3 times, yet not a single holding penalty.

With the amount of screen passes from BC, there wasn't a single OL illegally downfield? Nary a hold? Nary an illegal block in the back?

We had a chop block called, but not a single holding call? Really?

We were lined up offsides on D multiple times, but they only called it when it mattered.

But would you say they have been better than B1G?

Bowl games seem to highlight the disparity in how each conference call penalties, not just B1G and SEC. The style of play can be different, but a DPI or a holding penalty should be the same no matter the conference. And with any sport, it should be the same call in the first minute of a game as the last minute. Shouldn’t be that difficult — but for some reason it is.

People keep harping on the late hit call when DR got hit, but the way the came is called today seeing that in real time, I don't think there's any way they don't call that. I think pretty much every crew makes that call. With the benefit of replay, especially slow-mo, I get it. But live, I definitely get why they threw the flag.

Overall, I'm not sure they were any better or worse than the B1G crews, just different. Definitely let them play more, but I think almost to a fault especially with what DBs were getting away with.

Exactly. There were some no calls on blatant PI.

The illegal hands to the face on Scott was bush league, and the no call DPI on Banks on the very same play was egregious.

Otherwise, better by far than anything seen in the B1G.

You'd think with all this money in college football, we could get better refs. Regardless of the conference, but especially in the SEC and B1G. I mean, the NFL refs aren't perfect either, but a far cry better than anything we're seeing in college and they do at least appear to hold them accountable. Why the hell wouldn't we do that? Only so many talented refs to go around I guess 🤷‍♂️

we had the first down and at the time only running out the clock was important. if i remember right it really made no difference in the outcome

I think it was 1st and 10 and DR picked up about 5 before he started his slide. Would have been about 2nd and 5 without the penalty. So, it didn't necessarily cost BC the game or anything as a lot more would have had to happen. But it definitely helped us a lot

Yeah exactly. Yards didn’t matter. Just needed a few first downs

Go to the SEC boards and they rip their conference refs as bad as the B1G rips theirs. When things don't go right, let's attack the refs and their stupid decisions.....it can't be our fault

Didn’t like the late hit on DRs run, but glad we got the call. Thought they let the teams play while keeping control of the game.

Thought there were a couple blatant passing interference on Boston College that were not called one where we had a hands to the face which was valid but it should’ve been offset by pass interference

What did you think of the SEC crew who did the Pinstripe Bowl as compared to the regular season Big 10 crews?

I thought they were bad but consistent. So is that consistently bad? Lol.

Seriously they let DBs mug WRs all day. Outside of the one where Singleton got called their guys and finally ours abused and beat WRs all day with no calling. They allowed holding on the OL and interference in the defensive backfield without penalties. But at least they allowed it both ways. So imo they were bad .but fair
