BIG wrestling after session I

After Session 1:
125 - Caleb Smith (1-0) in Semis vs Dean Peterson of Rutgers. A W has him in the finals vs likely Ramos.
133 - Van Dee (1-1) lost quarterfinals. Has a nice path to 3rd place. Should have a good finish to the tourney.
141 - Brock Hardy (2-0) in Semis vs Jesse Mendez of Ohio State. Last time, Hardy got caught in a spladle for what felt like all of the 3rd period in the 2024 NCAA quarterfinals.
149 - Ridge Lovett (2-0) in Semis vs Kyle Parco of Iowa. Time for Ridge to exercise a demon.
157 - Antrell Taylor (2-0) in the Semis vs Tyler Kasak of Penn State. Completely disagree with the seeding in this weight class. Taylor-Kasak is the 157 final being held in the Semis. Time for Taylor to do the thing.
165 - Christopher Minto (1-1) dropped a head scratcher to Braeden Scoles of Illinois. Has a nice path to 3rd place. Looking for him to have a good finish to the tournament.
174 - Lenny Pinto (2-0) in Semis vs Dan Braunagel of Illinois. Should see Levi Haines in the finals. Lenny is capable of crazy things, but I don't see Haines not being the B1G and NCAA Champ.
184 - Silas Allred (1-1) dropping quarterfinal match to Edmond Ruth of Illinois. Not to be a smartass, but seems like Silas is in March form already. He does have a nice path to 3rd place match. Lets see if he can change the narrative. He had been wrestling really good the last 6 weeks or so.
197 - Cam McDanel (1-1) got teched by Josh Barr of Penn State in the quarterfinals. Will wrestle Gabe Solars of Indiana next. Young and very talented guy who's best years are ahead of him. Would like to see him string together a win or two.
285 - Harley Andrews (1-1) vs Luke Luffman of Ilinois in the consis. Got a pin in the 1st round of consis. Nice to get bonus points here. Would like to see the upset vs Luffman, hopefully get an at-large for NCAAs.

Lots of bonus points picked up by almost every wrestler today. That's the key to taking home team hardware. Not that we'll unseat Penn State but unseating Iowa for 2nd is very doable.

Thanks for the breakdown. Much appreciated GBR

Andrews gets pinned in the semis. His day is done.
Van Dee gets slammed hard as hell and injury defaults out. Will wrestle for 7th if he does wrestle again this tourney.

Brock Hardy with a revenge W over Jesse Mendez 9-8. Will face Vance Vombaur from Minnesota (big upset over Bartlett of Penn State) in the finals for 141.

Ridge Lovett exercising the demon as I demanded with a DOMINANT 14-2 W over Kyle Parco in the semis. Will face Kannon Webster of Illinois in the finals. Webster upset Van Ness in the semis.

Huskers with some favorable finals matchups so far AND in 1st place overall currently.

I'd rather see Lovett exorcise the demon rather than exercise it ;)

Antrell Taylor got wrecked and pinned in the 1st period. Kasak will likely be the national champion as well. Trelly should march back for 3rd.

Officiating has been trash all tournament across the board but really bad against Nebraska. Surprise surprise of course. But holy hell what an ending for Pinto! Will face Levi Haines in the finals tomorrow.

still making noise
McDanel
Allred
Minto
Taylor
Van Dee

Finals:
Smith
Hardy
Lovett
Pinto
Van Dee has forfeited out of the tourney and will be taking 8th. More than likely has a concussion. I’d be shocked if he didn’t.
Minto is in the 8th place match.
McDanel, Allred, Taylor wrestling in consi-semis tomorrow morning. All 3 guaranteed at least 6th place! Very solid tourney for McDanel and guaranteeing an NCAA berth.

After Day 1:
125 - Caleb Smith (2-0) in finals vs Luke Lillendal of Penn State. Lost 4-2 to Lillendahl earlier this season.
133 - Van Dee (2-3) got slammed on his head/neck and injury forfeited out of tournament to finish in 8th place.
141 - Brock Hardy (3-0) in finals vs Vance Vombaur of Minnesota.
149 - Ridge Lovett (3-0) in finals vs Kannon Webster of Illinois.
157 - Antrell Taylor (2-1) in the consi semis vs #1 seed Ethen Miller of Maryland. Guaranteed 3rd-6th place.
165 - Christopher Minto (2-2) in the 7th place match vs Paddy Gallagher of Ohio State. Underwhelming tournament for the #3 seed. Look for a better showing at NCAAs.
174 - Lenny Pinto (3-0) in finals vs Levi Haines of Penn State.
184 - Silas Allred (3-1) in consi semis vs Jaxon Smith of Maryland. Guaranteed 3rd-6th place.
197 - Cam McDanel (3-1) in consi semis vs Zac Barunagel of Illinois. Guaranteed 3rd-6th place. GREAT bounce back in the consis for the young wrestler.
285 - Harley Andrews (1-2) in the double consis vs Hayden Filipovich of Purdue. Win 2 more and he finishes in 9th place. Will finish between 9-12th place.

Nebraska firmly in 2nd place, 20 points ahead of Iowa, but Penn State has sped away with a 30-pt lead for 1st place.

agreed about Minto in this tournament. He looked sluggish in every match.

I however, have faith in young Minto---he will show out at nationals.
Yeah I expect him to bounce back. Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s under the weather some. He’s probably got a solid immune system, but because it’s so good the bug everyone had 2-3 weeks ago has now hit him.
