The Big 12 minus Oklahoma and Texass doesn't have any brands comparable to Washington, Oregon, and Stanford.

From a leadership standpoint, the Big 12 is light years ahead of the PAC 12. Brett Yormark likely saved the Big 12 from suffering the same fate as the Big East. The question is, can George do the same for the PAC 12?

I think they're both viable, but for me personally I like the future of the Big 12 better. Maybe they don't have the brands to equate to Washington, Oregon and Stanford, but overall I just think they're better positioned. They have a presence in the midwest, south and southeast, whereas the west coast has always been a little bit of a black hole for college football unless you live out there. BYU is a huge fanbase that creates interesting matchups. The B1G has great finances, but from a competition standpoint I wish we were in the new Big 12. I just enjoy the product more. I'd rather watch West Virginia and Oklahoma State than Indiana and Rutgers.

West Virginia vs Iowa State might be comparable to Indiana vs Rutgers.

conferences that prioritize greatness on the field/court will never waver

conferences that blow in the political wind will struggle to find purchase

pac 12 made a grave error assuming its fellow political conference (B1G) wouldn't do what all political orgs do - sell everything it claims to hold dear for the almighty dollar

Has to sting for George Kliavkoff..

the guy taking the wheel after the ship has already hit the iceberg

tough row in front of him

I actually saw something interesting proposing the Pac 12 and Mountain West fully merge with a few caveats specific to football scheduling

would be a 20+ team regional conference including the largest public schools in every western/southwestern state + hawaii

Brett Yormark took the wheel after the Big 12 hit an iceberg and saved it from sinking, at least for now.

not exactly the same thing

Big 12 without OU & UT still boasts back to back men's hoops national champs + overall much stronger portfolio

Pac 12 was in pretty dire straights even before being looted by its own dance partner

I do think them going hard into streaming for their next media deal will prove to be prophetic (many here laugh at it - in 2023)

United they stand ($ flows), divided they fall…
Hence the reason for the escape from the B12, right? If they complete that merger, they will sustain for a few more years before the few (decent) teams get picked off by the larger $ conferences…

I would say the PAC but the fate of Oregon and Washington is still unknown.
And I honestly think the Stanford brand (and band) are overrated. They got a crap fan base.

i have a somewhat different view on all this. the b10 is waiting for a new commissioner before moving forward. kevin warren took the bears job because he couldn't have his way with b10 presidents over expansion. the bears job is seen as a step down for him, not up, albeit it puts him in line for nfl commissioner someday.

so, when the new guy takes over the b10 this summer, the picture will clear up. the fundamentals for oregon and washington moving to the b10 are strong bringing some west coast partners for usc and ucla. i believe that will eventually happen. if not, it's only because notre dame goes to the b10 and brings along stanford. but i just can't see the irish doing that.

after the b10 moves, the p12 shatters. then and only then does the b12 scavenge taking for certain the two arizona schools and likely cu, plus maybe utah, although i don't like that school. yormark could also move on stanford and california for the bay area market and as with the b10 to bring some western balance.

overall, i sense the big 10 will have to make the first move before the p12 bursts. if it doesn't, it won't, so to speak. those western academics really don't want to separate particularly to join a bunch of land grant schools out there on the plains.

the exception to all that would be if the b12 offers a grant of rights "out" to oregon, uw, and others. as aggressive as yormark is, that would not surprise me if/when it happens.

I think they need to merge into one conference and kick out some of the bottom teams that can't contribute to a financial media deal.

Don’t know what Warrens intentions were before he left for Chicago, but there was some talk of Oregon and Washington joining USC and UCLA if the PAC 12 fall apart and wouldn’t have a good enough TV contract..

Pac12 is literally collapsing as we speak. Big12 is looking to get the four corner schools and a sweet Amazon deal.

Get ready for the power 4!

I thought K- State was the Big 12 champ🤔
Don't get me started on championship games. They are nothing but a money grab. What happened to TCU v. K-State happened to K-State v. aTm back in '98 costing State a chance at the national championship.

At year's end, TCU and State were comparable teams. But winning this league, playing everyone during the regular season, that's the champion in my mind, not the after game.

Your preaching to the choir..

same thing happened to Nebraska in the inaugural Big 12 CCG.

Go back to 2014. If TCU and Baylor had played in a conference championship game, most likely the winner would have gone to the playoffs. That's why the Big 12 added the championship game.

Not playing a conference championship game likely cost TCU or Baylor a shot at the playoffs in 2014.

K state fans don't care about playoffs - they only care about "who did the best during the regular season" (on seasons they actually did okay anyway)

o yea you're right 2nd place big 12 team absolutely murdered B1G champ

michigan never had a lead and never had a chance against big 12's 2nd best team

once again the B1G's biggest win of the season was a loss to an SEC team - classic
