Best College Football Towns

So you're upset that one guy that works at Yahoo didn't include Lincoln in his top ten? Ok. I certainly won't lose any sleep over it.

One mans opinion. Look for the thread that has the podcast from Merle Hoge of ESPN and his review after last weeks game. Lincoln is the best hands down according to him.

Meril was talking a lot about the stadium experience. I like Lincoln but I think the nature of the campus makes it a hard sell as a top ten college town.

Any list that has Austin, Texas on it is completely invalid.

First of all, few people in Austin give a crap about UT football. The reason is that Austin is doubling in size every 20 years, and that explosive growth is coming from New York, California, and the rust belt. I hardly know anybody here who actually graduated from UT. So why would those people care about the team? During home games, you can run errands and neither the traffic nor the stores are any different. Furthermore, the city really doesn't go out of its way to support UT athletics, academics, student life, or anything else. In fact, only about 15% of the students live on campus. Most live far away in the many large apartment complexes scattered around town. Walk around campus at night or on weekends, and its a ghost town. To me, that doesn't make a great "college town" in the least.

By the way, there are still 15,000 tickets remaining for UT's game against Rice today. So there's another knock against them.
