Beason Decommits

Was a way too early commit. Best of luck. Maybe he come back N later taking some other visits.

Knew that was coming. Still plenty of time. Hopefully Avery is N.

No surprise to me... When he committed he even wrote that he would "still listen to other schools but for now I'm committing to Nebraska" Not exactly a "commitment" if you ask me. We could still be in on him but his recruitment has blown up since his "commitment". Also, I heard that Avery and the Huskers are growing further apart? Not sure if true but I'm not sure they are still pursuing him as hard as they once were????

I hope this isn't true. Not sure why we would stop pursuing him as hard as we were.

Huskers and Avery agreed to move on from each other... Huskers in desperate need of outside lb/pass rushers

Took a kicker instead. Not trying to stir up trouble, but it is what it is.

Small class, doubtful that another nose tackle will be taken. That said, I would love to be wrong. I think there should always room for another stud in the middle of the D-line.

David Lee Roth had a video back in the day after he left VH where-as a girl was getting married and she said 'I'm probably only gonna do this 3 or 4 more times in my entire life"

I doubt the coaches would stop recruiting Avery even if they have de-prioritized that position. A lot can change between now and signing day.

With such a small number of kids in this class it would be dumb to take 2 NT the year after you took 3.

This tells me that we are not going to get much above 15 if at all. Also, hopefully this staff didn't over reach with the current NT in this class.. At least "offer more Nebraska kids because they are from Nebraska" guy is happy hunh?

So because we signed Daniels and Thomas last year, and because we have Mapieu this year, we're not focusing so hard on NT, and instead trying to land some elite outside pressure?

I guess that makes sense, though I am a little bummed to hear it as Avery looked like a hoss.

Damn, I forgot about Watts, too. Ok, so we took three DT's last year in 2017, technically. One could probably switch and play DE in our system, but you have at least two big fatties for a DT slot in Daniels and Watts. Thomas could potentially be a DE, or switch to DT.

So, now I'm seeing the wisdom in not focusing so hard on the NT position and trying harder to get an elite pass rushing DE/LB signed in this class, like Perkins. Anyone else have thoughts/players they thing would be great to add to the class?

Still not convinced Mapieu actually signs with Nebraska and if he does he will be at DE not NT.

Watts and Daniels, from last year's class, are the two I see as NT. D. Thomas will be at DE.

Tuco, you know your stuff, do you think we skip a NT commit this year as is suggested and focus instead on DE's and OLB's that can pass rush? I'm glad we're at 10 commits, and I see us trying to get the Moore brothers, Goodrich, and 2 others in the class (probably a RB and an OLB/DE), but then again, it's SO early and I have no idea what the needs truly are right now at DE/OLB.

Also, this is yet another argument for Jurgens converting to a monster OLB/pass rusher, if the need is great. The guy is 6'3 and 240 as a freakin' high school player. He's going to be a monster in 2-3 years.

As a fan base we need to recondition our thinking about DLinemen.

The guys we are recruiting, that are listed in the 6'1 to 6'3" range and over 305lbs will probabaly be playing on the nose. The guys that are 6'3" and taller are going to be DE.

The DEs in Diaco's defense will be built more like a 4-3 DT with similar skill sets and responsibilities.

The DEs will not typically be edge rushers.

Going forward the edge rushers will be built similar to how Freedom was built as a Soph. 6'3 - 6'5 and 240-250 with speed. They will be OLB and not DE. Although some of the recruits will be listed as DEs on their profiles.

I have always said that we won't sign any NT but if a guy like Avery was dead set on coming to Nebraska than you make room.

I am a huge fan of having Jurgens as an OLB, there is just a logjam of young TEs and Cameron is a freak athlete, so wee need as many freak athletes on the field as possible.

We need 2 more safeties and an OLB for sure. A corner, RB, OT and QB are the next 4 positions of need.

The fact that we are recruiting WR so hard, leads me to believe one of the commits may not be solid or that they are expecting Darlington to not be on the roster in 2018.

That's a really good point about Darlington. I think you're right about that. So if we got Moore Brother #2 and Goodrich, that would basically end our defensive backfield needs, right?

I don't think we are landing both Moore Kids. I think Jordan is getting crystal balls for us just because of what he tweeted they were playing together. Joshua has said he plans on doing what is best for him.
