It is different. His year one was better than year one at other schools. His year two will likely be a little better as well

That game should have been won. Our staff can’t get out of their own way. And please coach discipline. Quit blaming the players. IL has worse roster. Big Burt gets more out of them and knows how to scheme a win

Yes, they’d run play action on short yardage and the guy was so wide open it was like it was nebraskas first time seeing a play fake

I was at the game. Simply we were undisciplined and Belemia as usual out coached us. Same result different coach. It’s 3 phases and we got out coached in 2.5 of them……and we still only lost in overtime. We also win the turnover battle. It’s all coaching. Really was great atmosphere last night. Frustrating

Admittedly I bought into the hype that this was a good team. It’s not.
Sprinkled with good players, yes. Still searching for that complete team.
But there seems to be some incremental progress.

Losing in overtime to a good team in year 2 isn't anything to freak out about... I'm sick of the same ole same ole comments... If you can't see the improvement in the right direction of this team you are BLIND... This is game 4 of year 2!

So does a lot of football teams. A lot of the guys making the “Big Plays” are the FR and Sophmores. If anything I’m disappointed with some of the upperclassmen.

I do agree. I see improvement in certain areas. But I really don't think Illinois is very good. And to lose in that fashion on national tv once again. Being out coached. So sloppy. And the number of players we are set to lose after the season. People better be prepared for a major letdown.

Rebuild year or not, I agree last night was a game you have to win if you hope to make any noise in the B1G. A very loud home field advantage was wasted.

Temple, sure. However, don't look now, but until the last couple years, Baylor has been far more successful than we have. They had a pretty nice little 10 or so year run there that we'd have loved to have.

Rhule didn’t get a 5 star stud at QB in either of his prior 2 stops

Rhule didn’t find 4 offensive starters via NIL in year 2 of his other stops

At his other stops, the older guys didn’t buy in, his own words. Here the older guys have bought in.

Yet, in year 2 we just lost at home to a mediocre Illinois team at home on national TV. We were sloppy, undisciplined and got pushed around up front though we had flashes of brilliance. We looked exactly like a Scott Frost coached team last night. Epic failure and no excuse for it

We also have to take into consideration how bad Nebraska sucked in the college landscape before he came.

I took a look back at Temple and their record was 9-4, 8-4, 9-4, and 4-7 before Rhule took over. He basically took him right back up to that level before he bolted.

Same with Baylor. Their records 11-2, 11-2, 10-3, 7-6 before Rhule showed up. Rhule took them back to where they had been, then bolted.

Those are seasons Nebraska players haven’t sniffed consecutively in a long time. Temple and Baylor players on those teams had been a part of winning programs, there is not a player on our team that has experienced a college winning season. Will be interesting to see if that changes his past results.

Yep. PKs are mostly forgotten leading up to game day. Then, suddenly and too often, they are the one player on the team called upon to deliver a win or critical points late in the game.

Nothing is automatic but a championship caliber team needs a PK that can reliably split the uprights inside 40 yards. A good PK should be s top recruiting priority.

Good post. It's also important to remember that this isn't our grandfather's Illinois team. By any comparison-- NFL draft picks, head to head results, recent bowl seasons-- the Illini is a program we have to respect. Last year's win was a damn good win, but that's really all it was. They were ready for us this year.

Same is true of the glory years of Husker football-- 70's/80's Big 8 football or 90's Big 12-- totally different situations than what Nebraska finds itself in now.

Comparing the short stays at Baylor and Temple to what he faces here is about like the polls proclaiming us back after UNI. Anyone worried this week about PaState poaching Rhule? How about those great HC offers for White? I should have known better than to get sucked in again after a few pre-season wins against bad teams. 🤣

True, but every program has money, many have similar or equal fan support, and until last year, a lot had better facilities.

I was trying to pump the brakes on this board. Gotta prove it and Illinois has some dudes. The funny thing is still think we could win 8. Virtually all of our games going forward are winnable and it would take a total collapse to not win 6. Ohio is likely an L but sh## can happen.

It shouldn’t have come down to a kick. Raiola got rattled last night as I figured he would at some time this fall. I thought it would happen on the road. That missed throw to the TE was a bummer.

The problem is that this is a senior dominated team in the trenches. I think he’s a year ahead of schedule so this needs to be the year IMO.
