Bama turning into Nebraska

Heard that before.
Doesn’t mean it’s not true. I can just hear the towel boys whining in the shadows “this isn’t how Saban did it”

Saban was a generational coach. He stepped away at the perfect time. You never want to be the guy AFTER the guy. Deboer can average 10 wins per year, and their spoiled fans are going to be super unhappy.

Will Alabama have 20 years of suck like Nebraska? I highly doubt it.
Who knows. If you are old enough to remember, Bama had a lot of suckage for 25 years after Bear Bryant retired and like us flipped coaches often. While they had some good teams during that 25 period they never found a long-term coaching solution to replace Bear until Saban.

It is near impossible for a program to win at the highest level forever. Saban is the best HC in recent history…quite possibly the GOAT.

Don't know if it was quite as bad of a 20 year stretch as us, but I remember some pretty average to shitty football with multiple different spare coaches between Bear Bryant and Nick Saban. In fact, they are kind of one of the only example that gives me hope that we can eventually get back on top too.

I will research and see if they went 7 years straight without going to a Bowl

I think bama had great coaching and a good ole boy network that got nil to players before nil..
now that nil is legal I'm not too sure many can afford to have a bench full of 5 stars sitting on their hands..
there will still be top teams but maybe not with the strangle hold on top talent.
because other teams can pool thier money and chip away at them benches, one at a time.
the trick seems to have enough horses with the right coaching, them 2 things

Huh? I said they had some good teams in that 25-year stretch of coach flipping but ask any Alabama fan to list their favorite coach during that lengthy span. Most of them probably couldn’t name one.

And of course that infamous seven-year streak of ours only exists because our 2020 “warriors” chose to turn down a bowl invite. They were tired.

Yep, same as happened to Clemson. The only difference is Clemson got their comeuppance a little earlier because they hadn't compiled the depth that Alabama had

2020 warriors should’ve took the bowl game, but they didn’t earn it on the field

His QB is a problem. The inmates are getting control of the asylum. He’ll need to shake things up. Their locker room has a bit of entitlement

He is in a hard place this year. Milroe shouldn't be the QB, but the locker room loves him. It would be extremely hard being a first year coach and benching a probable 1st round qb that is loved by his teammates.

Gene Stallings won a natty there in 1992.

He is not an NFL quarterback. He is a fantastic athlete though.

If memory serves, during their long stretch of mediocrity they did win one national title under Gene Stallings. I think it was 1992 or 93. But then they got put on probation for something, and he was never as good. Resigned a few years later. Am I remembering that right?

Sounds right. He was successful during his short tenure but got them hammered with sanctions so I doubt many Bama fans would list him as a favorite during that 25 year stretch of coach flipping. I mostly remember him from his time here in PHX coaching the Cardinals. He was one of the many forgettable Cardinals’ HC’s, about as memorable as Saban was with the Dolphins — and Rhule was with Carolina.🤣

That was what got Nick Saban into retirement. He spoke about player exit meetings being about players asking for more money and a more featured role. Something like 2/3 of the player meetings went like that. He finally had had enough.

Everyone knows DeBoer can coach. But sometimes certain places are more difficult than others. Following Saban at Alabama, in the SEC, in the NIL era. That is definitely one of those places. Great coaches can suddenly look pretty average.

DeBoer will really be in trouble if he loses to Auburn. In the history of their program, only three head coaches at Alabama beat Auburn on their first try.

1948 - Harold Drew
1990 - Gene Stalling
2001 - Dennis Franchione

I believe also his wife was having some health issues . The combination of the two was enough.
