At this point Riley has fired all the coaches we never wanted him to bring....

that's pretty much what I think as well. you watch the top teams and they consistently scheme easy touchdowns. even tim beck schemed quite a few easy touchdowns. just hasn't seemed to happen much, esp against decent competition, the last two years. maybe i should rewatch and I'd change my mind....shrug.
Beck looked great vs Clemson and he is out boom.

I think everybody ITT who is suggesting that Eichorst is helping Riley with this decision, should substitute Eichorst's name with Devaney. I feel that Riley respects Devaney's perspective on the organization than he would Eichorst's. Having that impartial perspective has maybe helped Riley recognize some things that he might have not seen as clearly prior to this year. Sometimes it's nice to have a peer that can look at your operation and help you realize some weak points as well as organize solutions. My nickel of input. Eichorst getting involved and initiating these decisions and pushing this agenda probably isn't happening for to many reasons to mention. But this has the feel of some revelation happening now begging to question why now? The most obvious variable is Devany's experience and why his role was created last year. Nebraska innovation. Which other school has a person with Devany's experience in a similar role. And Riley hires up, he has a record of it since he's been here, which is subjective, but I feel he has.

Jim Rose seems to think Devaney played a big role in the shake up...

I don't like Jim Rose.
I'll leave at that.
Well some guys I know that know him very well think he's a great guy. I merely repeated though what he said on KFAB today. I don't know Rosie.

He is a huge Husker honk... My Iowa buddies can't stand him because he NEVER gives Iowa any credit one I Otha.

Of course they say the same about Damon Benning too.

like I said, EVEN beck scored some easy ones. not a ringing endorsement of him, but he showed me more than DL has thus far.
Hahaha... let's see... Beck had JT Barrett. DL had TA. Beck had Ohio State offensive line. DL had ours.

Are you surprised that Beck showed you more under these circumstances?

My guesses. I have no idea who the "we" is but I suppose it is meant to say that Husker fans are smart but the coaches arent.

Riley went with people he knew and trusted and thought they could get the job done with a change of scenery. Perhaps he thought more talent would bridge the gap to the past. It is a logical move, I see it all the time in my world of work. Sometime it works sometimes it doesn't. I do agree with the comment that it gave Riley an easier start to work with people he knew and trusted. You have to give Riley credit for making these changes, he is taking the bull by the horns.

Eichorst, very likely, had nothing to do with any of the hiring or firing decisions. After they are made, and he would be in the know, then he gets involved. This is all Riley's call.

If Riley or any coach gives in to the negative people, like those who want Lang's gone, Perella fine, CSV gone and others then it will be a coaching caraseaul.

Everyone could be disappointed if this is not the "splash hire" some are crying for. First, I don't really know what that is. There are only a small number of the top dogs and it would not easy to pry them away and in spite of whatost on here seem to think, money is not the determiming factor.

I for one will sit back and read the bizarre speculations and wait for people to do their jobs in finding the right person(s). Some can wait for a Riley call for your opinion. :)

I suspect Devaney may have played a very major role in this, by making it as clear as possible from his advantaged perspective who is, and who is not, getting the job done.

I listened to every presser Banker ever had. My impression is he has vast knowledge of defense tactics and scheme. And to be fair to him, there were MANY times his scheme had players in the right place and they couldn't make the play. My guess is HCMR thought with better talent Banker would break through. SInce that didn't happen, since the embarrassments and blowouts happened, and maybe some other things like Gerry not going to class and two players leaving early last year saying they never talked to the DC during the season, and didn't even tell Banker they were leaving (and another quit football completely), Riley reassessed and decided a change was needed. I am therefore not real critical of Riley bringing him from OSU.

Read on the other hand I couldn't figure out why from day one and was astounded he received the compensation he got. I am critical of Riley for hiring him.

IMHO, the jury is out on Cavanaugh. I just have the heebie jeebies something isn't right there.

I don't blame Riley for bringing the guys he wanted. Now he's done what became obvious this year that he needed to do. Cav, IMO, did a pretty damned good job of piecing things together with a bunch of walk ons with all the injuries he had to deal with. IMO I don't care who our O line coach was, we were going to struggle there this year. WAY too many injuries and line combinations this year to have had a cohesive high functioning unit. The one thing I question is Utter over Thurston who started the bowl game at center. Maybe he would have stayed had he thought he would be the starter. Then again bailing on your teammates maybe says all you need to know. He would have played the whole year had he stayed. We started 3 walk ons most of the year in our O line....no way that works in the B1G.
