Armstong should be ready against the gophers

There is a process the docs, team trainers and coaches follow. If he is cleared to play, it's going to be up to him, his family and his coaches as to whether he takes the field. I suspect we know what Tommy will want to do.

don't want to speculate on the diagnosis, but does anyone else recall a similar situation where a player was reportedly knocked unconscious, was on the field being attended to for that length of time, was carried off on a stretcher and whisked away in an ambulance and then jogged back on the field a short time later ... I can't recall a similar scenario

seems odd ... hopefully it suggests he is able to go and all the above was precautionary (as it should have been)

he looks perfectly ok to me....armstrong is cleared to play
lets move on to the plays he's going to run against the gophers.

I think you're having some fun ruffling the feathers of those easy to be ruffled. Play nice.

You don't know what the diagnosis was. You are also saying that it was wrong for him to come back to he stadium regardless. I have not heard that from anybody else-give me a doctor's opinion that was wrong, and you might have something. You are saying your armchair medical analysis is better than that of the doctors who examined him. That is the height of arrogance.

You're right. I am not a doctor and I do not know the diagnosis(though i do have to deal with/dance around this concussion crap weekly as a coach). I am saying that it was wrong for him to run by himself back onto the field, according to the protocol. I am also just going by Mike Riley's word that he is in the concussion protocol, and the black and white concussion protocol timetable. I guess you are thinking Riley is lying then? Certainly possible, but I'm going to take his word right now. Call me arrogant if you wish.

Bottom line: nobody up here knows TA's specific diagnosis, nor what he was told by the doctors who treated him during the game, nor what he has been told by any medical professionals since then. We'll find out soon enough.

Boy he progressed VERY quickly for having a concussion and some saying he shouldn't be playing for 2 more weeks. No doubt in my mind he wouldn't be back this week with what I saw.

Any thoughts or discussions on who might be getting their walking papers should TO need to leave the game tomorrow due to a head injury? I've got to think the liability would be off the charts assuming he is allowed to play. The MN QB sat out a week after being concussed from a game he didn't even come out of vs. Iowa. I get that all concussions are not created equal and I'm not a medical professional, just curious. Armstrong was out cold and it wasn't a 10 second kind of thing but for an extended period as I saw it.

Not sure he was ever diagnosed with a concussion. He has gone through all the protocols but I have yet to see a diagnosis of such.

Coach Riley Thursday post-practice update.

A symptomatic tomorrow (Friday) and if he is, he'll pass another day and he could be cleared to play after that. And then uh, he could be cleared to play after that if everything goes smoothly after that.

As athletic as TO was in his day, I think I would take Fyfe today over TO... Something tells me Fyfe would avoid sacks better...

TA, on the other hand, if allowed to play, does so with the green light from the doctors. So even if he did get a head injury tomorrow, would it be attributed to last Saturday or a new injury?

Either way, the only way he plays is if the doctors say he can. If there is any hell to pay, it would fall upon them, since they are independent of the university (no vested interest).

FWIW i've personally gotten knocked out and not had a concussion before. It is possible.

If everyone involved feels like he's ready to play then you have to let him live his own life -- and he's going to want to play, it's just his personality.

If Tommy is cleared to play, he will absolutely want to play. It is certainly possible that even though he was knocked cold, he did not suffer a concussion. I would think that docs and trainers now handle even the possibility of a concussion in a very conservative fashion. If he he judged good to go, then he is.
The kid likely has just a few more ball games left in his career. If he is cleared, it should be left up to him and his family as to what he should do.

Saw this article the other day. Basically, the fact he was knocked out has little to do with the severity of his injury. How symptomatic he was is much more important. This appears to be where people have erred in judging the situation. The assumption has been that because he was knocked out briefly, that it meant he had a serious concussion. The way he was interacting with teammates on the sideline after he returned seems to indicate he was not showing concussion symptoms at the time. People who saw him after the game said he was not in the usual "fog" that people who have suffered concussions are in afterwards.
