are we ignoring a local qb?

I forgot which Husker sports yacker said this, but apparently Bo felt pressure to sign certain local kids. No family is entitled to their kid getting a scholarship from NU or any other school. If NU wants to compete at the top teams in the league, it’s recruiting needs to reflect that.
So instead you consider going to Bama? No competition there……

From what I have heard since Nebraska was going hard after Dayton that the Thomalla family had no interest in Nebraska.

Will Thomalla be better than Tre Taylor down the road. Time will tell.
DeBoer probably highly respects Campbell’s eye for QBs but it could also be some old beef with him. DeBoer, “you want this kid? Hold my beer while we sign him to be our scout team QB”. DeBoer knows he can always buy a starter out of the portal.

You react/reply to every single post I make, bud

Counting your chickens 3 years before they hatch is foolish. You know that, but sheep have yet to evolve a “bleat” to express it.

Kong it will all be alright. You can continue with all the mindless insults if that makes your sensitive emotional well being feel better. Nobody should talk about a qb committed to be an early enrollee one year after Dayton is on campus. Oh the horror.

Nebraska football sucks ass. If I were 17 and had a choice to play football at Alabama or Nebraska, my bags would be packed and never look back. Joe Burrow doesn't realize how fortunate he was by going to LSU. Well, he probbly does. If he went to Nebraska, he would have been a 7th round pick or a UDFA.

Thomalla doesn’t even have to make that choice

We refuse to even offer him for fear of retribution from our QB & his family

That was than this in now, and first off Burrow went to Ohio St, his next decision was the key.

As someone that knows the family...they are super annoying.

There is a good chance that this "offer" is not really an offer.

Sort of like Sebastian Circo, who was at Omaha North and "had" an offer from Ole Miss...and Like I said, his dad is also an ass and annoying and like I said, that offer at Ole Miss was fake...and it was.

I am not saying it is exactly the same but right now that is what I am thinking.

Circo got his “offer” before he even reached high school, iirc

Not after ascending to a top 25 QB in the country and top 200 overall recruit

Are they annoying enough to demand his little brother get a scholarship, too? (Kidding, kidding)

This board is so dramatic. “We need stars we need to recruit nationally to compete. We need 5 stars”

Bama comes in with a late offer. “OMG they know what they are doing. We’re sleeping on a local kid”

Love the off season
To that point - I don’t think Deboer is going to last at Bama. Their recruiting is slipping and their on-field performance is dicey.

Bama not making the playoffs was a massive validation of Deboers foundation he has laid. With the talent they have on the roster and a returning Heisman candidate at QB they completely underperformed.

It wasn’t long ago that Bama was recruiting the top rated QBs in the country and Nebraska was offering Alabama QBs without Alabama offers.

I am enjoying the 180 degree shift in roles here.

Bama literally has the #1 player in the country coming this year as part of the #4 overall rated class.

A QB, no less.

I don't think your post could be more wrong if you tried.

Yeah the Circo family pretended he got that Ole Miss offer after 8th grade, I think.

I know Jett's Dad, he is totally the type to take something like "Hey, we are interested in you" and turn it into "My boy got an offer to Bama"

Not saying he did that here, but that is the type that he is, with that said, I think that NU should pretty much offer the best QB in the state every single year. Makes no sense not to do that.

A Neb QB as not panned out in 24 years ( Not counting the idiot Frost). Makes good sense to keep offering. The Neraska way. Worked out well so far.

Hearing Ruhle say what he said in his press conference is EXACTLY what I've been saying since he got here. When we recruit and sign guys the question we need to be asking ourselves is can we compete and beat the Ohio St , Penn St, and Oregon's of this country with these guys. Can't afford to fall in love with these local kids if they aren't good enough to get that done.
This is the exact same rational that has been used by past Husker football coaches and basketball coaches for years now. And THEN they go out and sign guys who are no better than the in-state guys and usually worse.

Most always assume that's the case when you are talking in state vs out of state. Again which would be a mistake. Some of our biggest misses have been highly rated IN STATE guys. Hall, McMorris, and Coleman come to mind.
This is true, and you can add Betts to the list as well. Those four had three or four stars next to their names and impressive offer lists (mostly noncommitable), but isn't that the same thing we've been seeing with many out of state commits? My thought is that if you're gonna take a gamble on a kid, let it be an in-state kid.

Uncommitable offers are given out all of the time. It makes sense for Alabama to cast a net looking for Plan B types in case they loose their top QB commit to some $10 million offer from Tennessee or something ridiculous like that.

This board is such a bunch of blind dumb homers. “We need stars we need to recruit nationally to compete. We need 5 stars”

Bama comes in with a late offer. “Deboer is in trouble when Alabama is offering an Iowa State commit. It wasn’t long ago that Bama was recruiting the top rated QBs in the country and Nebraska was offering Alabama QBs without Alabama offers. I am enjoying the 180 degree shift in roles here.”

This thread was started on Feb 6th

Long before Bama came calling

I agree we aren’t sleeping on him.

We have made the conscious choice that nepotism - and not stockpiling the best kids we can get our hands on - is our preferred path forward in the ‘25 QB market

I don't follow Alabama recruiting, but it does look like the Tide is moving on to Plan B. However there are worse things to sell a fan base on than offering a four star, Elite 11 QB.
I believe they might be looking for a clipboard holder IF in fact he has a committable offer. We quickly forget that DeBoer has deep roots inside our turf. He would love to take a kid we didn’t offer and Campbell’s QB commit. DeBoer’s an easy guy to root for. Personally I hope he wins just enough to keep his job.

At Bama that means conference/national titles

They are a blueblood

9 win seasons won’t cut it

Its possible that he respects his eye for talent but I don't think guys can afford to operate like that anymore. Especially someone at a high profile like Bama. He do your own evals and you trust them. More times than not it's a main reason that got you in that high profile position to begin with .

Any coach worth a damn is gonna recruit based on his own evals more than anything else. So I would say DeBoer liked what he seen from the kid and decided to offer. Now absolutely you ou are right that if it doesn't work out he can easily go buy another one.

I'm not sure I can even go that far when it comes to gambling. If I'm the coach and I feel as if I'm taking a gamble I'm gonna gamble on the guy I THINK is the best player. You tell me you have them evaluated as equals then I could see it that way with the local guy. But I'm assuming you have one rated a bit higher. You simply trust your eval regardless of where they are from. At least that's how I would see it most always.

Why should they offer the best QB in the state every single year? Does it not even matter if they don't think he's good enough to play at the BIG level?

For the life of me I have never understood the that logic. Don't even evaluate him vs other QBs in that class just automatically offer the best in state QB every year.

So what happens when you have 3 QBs on your roster who can't play dead in a western movie and guys you didn't recruit BECAUSE you offered those local guys are excelling elsewhere? All the while your fan base is bitching because you have horrible QB play and wants you fired.

Whatever happened to evaluating and comparing them to the rest of the country and getting the best guy you can? FWIW I'm not and wasn't a fan of the baby Raiola offer either. I don't think he's the best they could've gotten either. Yet the same way some in this thread have no problem pointing that out they would be perfectly ok with the exact same situation if the kid was from Nebraska. That's crazy to me that we are "ok" with possibly taken a worse player because he's from Nebraska. Not only that but we openly have people endorsing taken 'the best" QB from the state basically REGARDLESS of how good he is. For the life of me I can't make this make sense...

So because previous coaches made bad evaluations on QBs the current one and future ones shouldn't attempt to get their best guy? Just take the best local guy instead?

We aren’t attempting to get the best guy in this class.

The spot was promised 3 years ago as part of a packaged deal.

Competition, evaluation, etc., are neither here nor there.

If you read my post I agreed with that. I don't know about all the "package deal" stuff but I think it could be plausible. My bottom line is that you try and get the best you can get and I absolutely don't think baby Raiola was that.

But if it's not right to do it with Raiola what makes it right to do it with said in state QB?

You can't have it both ways. Wrong is wrong and right is right...no?
