OT: What's going on at downtown Omaha's historic King Fong Cafe?

Hold on to the memories because I highly doubt that it is coming back anytime soon, if ever. I used to stop in for lunch occasionally and usually got an earful of complaining from the owner about why his customers were disappearing - street repairs, the chinese restaurant next door, etc. It was such an ornate place and having a 90-something year old grandma delivering meals to the tables made it an interesting dining spot. Their egg foo young was the best!

It think it was purchased by a group including Alexander Payne some time ago. Hopefully it will make a comeback. Place was very unique.

Surprised it hasn't been converted to an Abelardo's yet... but I guess no drive thru potential.

Wow, that place has been there forever. Like previously mentioned I thought I read it was sold awhile back and it's days were numbered.

Never even heard of that place. China Road Bellevue location will never be topped.

We went "all the way downtown" (from "west Omaha") to celebrate at King Fongs when I was growing up. At the time it was very exotic, and a bit creepy. (we were afraid of the "dragon lady.") I think it was the only Chinese restaurant in town at that time.

I remember that it was getting pretty run down so I wasn't surprised when it closed.

I have hope now that Alexander Paine is involved and down town Omaha has been revitalized.

I'll report back when I visit during my annual return to Omaha trip!

A slice of Chinatown in Omaha. it was an awesome place. Frankly, can't remember if the food was all that good. Its been a while.

IMO the food was pretty average, but I haven’t eaten there in 15 years. But we used to go all the time when I was younger. I just loved the atmosphere, it seemed so old and interesting to a young kid.
