I would think they keep the run packages they’ve developed for him.The problem for a 3 star guy transferring is that he might have to transfer down to "not wait" to play. Kaelin was a 4 star Elite Eleven QB who maybe has an inflated self value and he was looking at waiting until at least his senior year to play barring an injury. I believe IF we can get that 3 star area kid who wants to work on his game by growing physically and mentally while getting coached by Dana, that our chances are better of getting him to stick around. I REALLY would like to see a more athletic kid on the roster who still has some arm talent. It's a huge advantage.
We are WAY more likely to keep that area kid who grew up a Husker fan to stick around waiting for a chance to play than somebody from a distance. The 105 roster gives us a much better chance to offer a scholarship to those 3 star kids who have been going to the Dakota schools the past 10 years. How nice would it to have been to have an Easton Stick on our roster. He would have signed with us IF we would have offered a scholarship.
i'm probably one of the few guys that doesn't like moving Haarberg permanently to TE. I saw huge improvement in him from last year to this year and his run threat scares the hell out of a defensive coordinator. It changes so much in what they have to account for on defense. I get that any shot he has of making the NFL is probably at TE but damn we miss that run threat at QB.
Why not go junior college u get apparently free years. We are in an age where a lot of kids are going to have to prove themselves at a lesser program before they get offers from P4 schools. You aren't going to see many 3 stars recruited by the big boys. They will go for the high 4 & 5 stars and then poach talent from the lower divisions.
This whole system sucks.
His dad is SUCH a Doosher though. If you’re talking about Thomalla, maybe.
He’s better than Kaelin.
Kst, Iowa st among others have offered so farMaybe somebody posted it but i'd be more concerned if he had an offer list. I doubt every college coach, who make their living on the QB, is looking past a kid they think can play and help em win. For every one of Josh Allen who coaches missed and made his own promo tapes and sent to college coaches, there are a thousand QB's they were right about...but I went to Millard South so I kinda hope he's a stud who can play for us.
This is the way. For a lot of guys anyway. Go somewhere that it might be easy to start. Then you'll have a shot at a six figure NIL and starting gig in the Power 4.
Seriously. You are WAY better off playing at a lower school and actually getting tape out there than riding pine for a couple years hoping some coach who recruited you years ago remembers you and needs a guy. This is the way. For a lot of guys anyway. Go somewhere that it might be easy to start. Then you'll have a shot at a six figure NIL and starting gig in the Power 4.
To me it isn't necessarily recruiting a "lessor" player. It's about recruiting a raw athletic kid who needs time to grow and develop and might be willing to ride the pine and run scout team for the team he grew up rooting for. Remember, we aren't going to have walk on QBs to run scout team anymore. Find that very athletic kid who can emulate some of the mobile spread QBs we're going to face. Let him run the scout team and see what you have 2-3 years down the line. We need to carry 5 guys. You aren't signing five 4 star guys. The most we'll have on the roster of that sort IMO will be 3. That leaves potentially 2 spots for developmental guys. If you want, take that NAIA athletic QB like we have now for one of those spots but for heaven's sake don't pass on a local kid who appears to have potential. Historically we've had multiple in state QBs who were either walk ons or lightly recruited QBs who have gone on to start either some games or entire seasons for us. Again, we're going to reach a little maybe to get a 5th QB IMO. If we do, I would prefer it be a local kid and not somebody else's castoff who couldn't win the job at his previous stop.I get it we just have completely different views on the matter and that's ok. To me it's like recruiting guys to be "backups". I'll never be ok with that. Regardless of the position I want to recruit the best guys I can. When and if it doesn't work out then I go and recruit the next best guy I can from HS/portal/JC or anywhere else
To me it's like special teams guys. You don't recruit guys to just play special teams . You recruit guys hoping they can be starters in your program. Some will some won't. Some end up on specialty teams until they can get game minutes or transfer out . But you aren't recruiting a "lesser" player PURPOSELY.
I feel like you are basically saying we recruit a "lessor" player (local at that) because he/she is more likely to stay around in case of an emergency and we get down to our 3rd or 4th QB . To me it's almost like giving up a scholarship. With the 105 limit I jREALLY just don't see a reason to do this.
I wouldn't do it in any era tbh. But if you are talking a walk on I guess I understand. But purposefully recruiting a lessor guy because you think he's more apt to stay and not transfer? I won't ever be ok with that. To me it's too much like hiring a lessor coach so nobody will come and offer more money to take him away from you lol..
Again we while I understand your premise we will likely always be on opposing sides when it comes to that. I'll always take the best player I can get. Then let the chips fall where they may.
Holla
Or a great-grandfather. I kid; I'm the same ageHow are you doing Spartan? Do you have a good party to attend for the Super Bowl?

Maybe we're fine for this cycle. Maybe we're not after spring ball and the portal opens again..... No doubt the next cycle we'll be sifting through the chaff trying to find the next ......... Jeff Sims, Chubba Purdy, or Sam Keller......
His rivals profile and 247 profile shows no KState offer -Iowa state yes .Kst, Iowa st among others have offered so far
Two teams we’d have a hard time beating
Unfortunately who have been more successful than us. 😔He is competing for an offer. So was Thomalla, but Nebraska went with Raiola. Some are acting like Warren and Thomalla have already been offered by Ohio St and Texas. They both have a couple of midwest school offers.
i'm just seeing this!!! i'm great! i've been here!! i DID have a heart cath three weeks ago but all looks good right now!How are you doing Spartan? Do you have a good party to attend for the Super Bowl?

That is a pretty low bar at this point. Neither of those 3 QBs are going to be the players that lead Nebraska to the CFP.Unfortunately who have been more successful than us. 😔
and the kid who just sat the bench on a 1-11 team is?That is a pretty low bar at this point. Neither of those 3 QBs are going to be the players that lead Nebraska to the CFP.
Who said anything about Davila? This conversation is about 2026/2027 local QBs and Dayton Raiola.and the kid who just sat the bench on a 1-11 team is?
if this is your criteria, we can probably get the roster down to a dozen or so kids (being very generous)
We have very, very few players who are likely to “lead NU to the CFP.”Who said anything about Davila? This conversation is about 2026/2027 local QBs and Dayton Raiola.
Offers always used to be self reported and I think they still are. Rivals isn't always up to date on offers. His rivals profile and 247 profile shows no KState offer -Iowa state yes .
York College? Dang. I was in York many times in the 70s. . Had no idea there was a college there......I had one offer out of high school ... York College for basketball/ tennis... I took it... there was no hubbub😂
now it's a University and mildly thriving ... athletics lagging a bit but a wonderful placeYork College? Dang. I was in York many times in the 70s. . Had no idea there was a college there......
that number is high... remember there are 130 schools, so by definition they ALL make the cut...We have very, very few players who are likely to “lead NU to the CFP.”
Forget local QBs and Dayton Raiola (LOL!!).
If that’s your bar, we can just throw out the entire roster because we will carry 95-100 guys who aren’t CFP level players in 2026.

Mounty Marty up in Yankton declared themselves a University and added football. Meanwhile the official name of Harvard is still Harvard College.......now it's a University and mildly thriving ... athletics lagging a bit but a wonderful place
I know... I had mixed feelings... I think it had to be a prestige thing to a degree... BUT their enrollment is up!!!Mounty Marty up in Yankton declared themselves a University and added football. Meanwhile the official name of Harvard is still Harvard College.......
