We are in an age where a lot of kids are going to have to prove themselves at a lesser program before they get offers from P4 schools. You aren't going to see many 3 stars recruited by the big boys. They will go for the high 4 & 5 stars and then pouch talent from the lower divisions.

That's certainly possible. But I like the idea of recruiting local kids. And time has proven that the good local kids are very good prospects and hopefully less likely to leave early. And I'm not talking about good college players, several of these guys are in the NFL. It's been disappointing to see local kids succeed elsewhere and higher ranked/less talented NU recruits flop.
Yes, and he's more mobile. He's also better than Warren. He's accurate and has a strong arm and can make all the throws. A guy who throws for over 3600 yds. who has the measurables and barely gets any ink. He just recently received an offer. Head scratching stuff!

It’s a catch 22 for Nebraska coaching staff the need to recruit the local talent but here lately look at all the busts from in state players! Is cam jurgens the last in state player to succeed and he struggled his first couple seasons
Recruiting is now all about 4 and 5 star players, with maybe the rare 3-star that the coaches are really sure is a legit talent. If a guy isn't contributing by the start of their sophomore year they will likely not have room for them with another batch of recruits and transfers coming in. I think we will start to see recruiting classes of 10-15 players, each with NIL contracts of 2 years that are renewable at higher amounts if the player is really good and we want to keep them.
Hi just checking in here, Nebraska is monitoring 2026 Millard South QB Jett Thomalla and 2027 QB Braylen Warren, Warren realistically could land a Nebraska offer this spring/summer. Thomalla is going to see his stock ascend this offseason, but with Nebraska already holding a commitment from Dayton Raiola, I don't see them taking two QBs this cycle. I would maintain the relationship with him just in case though
So offering Warren over other higher rated QBs wouldn't be nepotism? C'mon You cant have it both ways. We can't say we need to recruit the best players then be pissed that NE kids don't get to pursue their Big Red dreams. Warren being allowed the opportunity to compete for an offer would not be nepotism, no.
We should probably take 2 QBs in every class and see who rises to the top. A 3 star athletic area kid is perfect for the 2nd QB to take. You have a better chance of him sticking around to be developed.

You’re not likely to get two highly ranked 4* kids to sign. IF you can add a 3* area kid I think it helps your depth chart over ending up with a 2* walk on kid that you have to put on scholarship to keep around. We’re going in to spring ball with a couple of former walk ons who had limited offers and potential in the mix to make the 105. That’s probably not ideal.
He is competing for an offer. So was Thomalla, but Nebraska went with Raiola. Some are acting like Warren and Thomalla have already been offered by Ohio St and Texas. They both have a couple of midwest school offers.
But Thomalla would see the field because he is a Nebraska kid?

No way. You don't have the scholarship numbers to have that many QBs on scholarship. Even if one leaves per year that is still 5 QBs on scholarship all the time.
If you say so. I don't think either would ever play a down here and both will be recruited over before getting a chance.
I am not naive, I just don't think Thomalla is any different. If I have to offer the 60th best QB in the country to get the top QB in the country or I have to offer the 50th best QB with offers from San Diego St and Iowa St and not get the top QB, I am taking 60 everytime.

I don't have time this morning to get into this, what am I missing? In the Raiola family's case the word nepotism is applicable, as long as you define nepotism as "Nebraska was lucky as a MFer that the Dad and Uncle have ties to a mediocre program that those kids otherwise wouldn't have given the time of day to."
I don't disagree, but taking two this cycle in Lateef and Davila out of the transfer portal, plus the 105-man limit probably prevents Nebraska from taking a second QB in 2026. 2027, you absolutely swing on two.
The nepotism shit is getting old. If a kid or coach has the goods to do the job, I don't really care who their relative are. And yea, one of the advantages of having a program of historical importance is that the younger relatives of those formers players who are talented enough consider being part of the legacy. NU is lucky to have that. It's not the program that is doing a favor for the kid, but the other way around.
