A little harsh, but in all honesty, not too far from reality. Needs a massive jump in year 2 to justify all the hype about him. Quite frankly think it's unfair to the kid and the hivemind putting all this pressure on him to be something he may not be.

I'd like raiola to spend some time with the coach specialist he shares with mahomes during the off season, it seems like some time thru the year he lost some of that (not going to say satterfeild to avoid casting aspurtions, could have been injury)
but going thru a whole year of games and not geting hurt bad is a big selling point....I remember both Martinez's got hurt their first year and never seemed quite the same..then you had thompson last year, simms before that getting hurt..
so avoiding injury seems a big selling point in addition to raiola's arm, he's good at handing off, doesn't turn the ball over alot, recruits for us, promotes NU sports, and doesn't seem prone to mutiny...(grew up a NU fan and we do not "have better")
him and holgerson squaring stuff away all off season....seen the qb position in alot worse shape...
he's exactly the kinda person you want if your gonna be pass happy, like us, since callahan...

People forget how AM consistently missed easy throws we needed for a 1st down. Bogs down an offense when you can't consistently hit open receivers.
I agree but DR also missed some wide open receivers this year that would have directly led to points for Neb. Our offense was not a finely tuned machine this year. Agree? 10 points against Iowa. 20 against BC when we should have least scored 35. People have their own opinions and agendas. AM is painted as bad guy that cost us games over his 4 years but forget he had a frosh season that had us all excited. DR had a subpar Frosh season after the first 4-5 games (as competition ratcheted up).
Btw - AM had a better completion percentage, very similar passing yardage and a better QB rating than DR as a Frosh. Also less interceptions and 600 plus yards on the ground. I think DR was in the negative in that dept.
Message - look at their freshman seasons and not consider some of AMs mistakes in his following 3 years at Neb. Dylan may have some of those too in the next couple of years in Lincoln.

So seriously what point are you trying to make? Because AM regressed his next 3 years too Dr will too? Your last sentence is now a reach with assumptions. Is your only point that AM had a better statistical freshman season? I have read the comments that DR had a better defense to get to the bowl. Same could be said AM had a better offense around him his freshman season where he had better stats.
Amart definitely had everyone excited, myself included. If DR doesn't improve from this year, then yes, I will be disappointed.
AM did not have a better freshman season.. we went 4-8 that year. W/L is the only record that should matter for a QB.
AM was a much better athlete overall, but DR has a much stronger mindset.. unlike all the crybabies on here that wince at some sharp yet accurate criticism.
That's what happens when the best receiver is a guy with a 2 foot catch radius. It was the right read, and AM was pressured often, unlike DR has been. Hard to blame AM too much there.
DR did what he could as a freshman and had a great season in my opinion. My only nit picking would be his physical shape which is pretty pudgy but I am ecstatic that he is here and can't wait to see him play in 2025.
AM had a good freshman season. The offensive line went from average to horrible the next two years and AM took endless hits to the point that he looked jumpy from the snap. His accuracy also became much more of an issue. Add in a pathetic running game and it was painful all around.
I was excited going into the 2019 season based on how AM seemed to grow as 2018 progressed. But then I saw the team against South Alabama and realized the overall talent on that team was on par with South Alabama. From then on we were just a crappy team led by a crappy coach that was retained way too long.
Raiola needs to work on his running and athleticism (QBs can't just be lead foot passers anymore), his decision-making under pressure, and overall accuracy. I do believe his long ball throws would be caught by Ohio St or Alabama receivers or a Trey Palmer. They have the speed and ability to run under throws that our 2024 group couldn't.
disagree.. I could see the problems with AM his first year and they only got worse.. so bad that he made everyone around him worse.
Raiola does need to get in better shape (and get stronger) in order to be more durable, but I don't think you try making him into any kind of runner.. only the ability to escape the pocket to extend the play.
agree on the long balls.. his decision making and accuracy will improve and he will play in the league, but I really would like to see better leadership. to his credit, he did call out winning the Wisky game, and then went and did it. The more he becomes reliable and leads by example, people will buy into.. what happened with the late slide and getting in the defenders face, that kind of stuff hurts him imo.
No. I think DR will do very well. But we are talking about their frosh seasons. And like him or not, AM had a very very productive frosh season. And IMO - his frosh season was more impressive than DRs frosh season. That’s my opinion and others have different opinions. But I do think there is a portion of the fan base that likes to bash AM. DR had a ton of mistakes as a frosh. For some reason - bringing that up only elicits venom from people like you.
More impressive receiving corp - Maybe. I think Barney starts on that team. Speilman transferred and was relegated to 3rd team at his new school. Ziggy was good. But I’d like to see how Emmitt Johnson would have done as our bell cow this year (all year - rather than the last 3-4 games).
So part of this post. Is it possible Satt maybe had as much of an effect than anyone in the offense. I blame him for not having EJ as the bell cow.
Ahh but he did have a better QB rating and less interceptions - was I correct there? Hopefully I was. And 600 plus more yards rushing than DR and 8 TDs on the ground. Many hate AM. I don’t. I think he had a great frosh season and regressed. Part of that is personnel. I believe 1 season he had 3 walkon receivers starting some games. Warner was his number 1. And AM moved the ball - sometimes all on his own. Third and 13 - coaches just told him to run and try to get to the markers (and didn’t slide before he got there). He often did. Did he turn the ball over a lot? Absolutely.
TO was once quoted as saying AM had the best ability at QB than any that played at Neb. He wasn’t right - but the point is that AM excited even the GOAT HC at Nebraska.
And if you think this is venom. You act so soft. I’m just asking questions and trying to figure out what your point is. To just say he had better stats even though only 4 wins? What am I missing?
WR depth chart for the tOSU game AMart's first year: Kade Warner, Mike Williams (guy with track speed), Spielman, Wyatt Mazour, Todd Honas, Stan, Woodyard (another track guy) and Bryan Reimers. Basically it was Stanley Morgan and JD. Five of eight WR on the 2018 depth chart were under 6 feet tall.
With Stanley and JD, I would trade 2024 WR room for the 2018 WR room.

I was all in on AM after his freshman season, and I actually think a lot of people were. It was what he produced the next three years that people remember the most.
Yep. Thx for looking that up. One of my friends called the receiving core - “The Amish package” one year as a joke. AM had to do a lot on his own in a year or two as a starter for Nebraska to move ball at all. I remember one game they sent Warner on a Fly pattern. I was like - “yah, that’s gonna work”.
Correct, he added weight his Sophomore year and was injured quite a bit, he didn’t improve till he transferred to K-State.
Where am I bashing you. I liked AM. I just do not understand the comparison. That’s all. I asked a few times is the point just about stats? All games are about wins and losses. I bet AM will say the same thing. And I would take that 2018 Wr room in a heartbeat.
And both won or lost those games on their own? Was it Rutgers where we stopped them from the 2 yard line on 5 plays? Was Dylan out there then? If we don’t make that stand - we could have easily lost that game. Would that have been Dylan’s fault? Or who gets the credit for the win? Dylan or our Def line that stopped the other team 5 times from the 2 yard line.
The Qb is very important but there are other players on the team that need to make plays to get a win.

AM had a much better QBR his freshman year. Despite DR's completion percentage, his QBR this year was very mediocre. That really tells you everything.
Stanley and JD would be this yesrs #1 and #2 by a mile. Not even close....
Both his and Amarts play improved once Frost and Co were no longer coaching them.
Everyone is forgetting that Ferragamo holds the NU career passer rating record at 147.7.

He did better at KSU because the coaches had recruited players who could generate offense. Vaughn was a demon at RB. Hell, Kade Warner almost had 500 yards receiving. Amart did not have to press and it was very much a less is more thing for him.
