Hoiberg in the locker room......

Watching Villanova vs UCF on dvr right now. Man Villanova student section is annoying. UCF is skinny and rangy and can shoot. Nova has a big dude in the middle but the first half he'd rather shoot 3s. Second half he's becoming a factor in the middle. Not sure who'd I would rather play but if we play like we did today it won't matter. Atleast Nova brought their band. Husker crowd was VERY noticeable today

That big dude you alluded to from Nova is Eric Dixon. He’s a big that can really shoot. He was really off on this game though. He was pressing. But he’s ordinarily better than that.

Is Rollie Worster been playing or is he hurt? Haven’t noticed him in any of the games, but haven’t had time to watch much.

It came out that he's been playing with a bad foot for three months. He finally shut it down and the team is playing better with Jacobsen getting his minutes.

Kinda hard to understand why Fred, the training staff and/or Rollie himself waited so long to make this decision? Why couldn’t Fred have given Rollie some rest and allocate some minutes to Jacobsen 6 weeks ago? 🤷‍♂️ He didn’t have to shutdown Rollie completely, but if everyone knew he(Rollie) was struggling with a foot injury. Why not give him some additional rest and give Jacobsen some minutes?

Not that I expect you or any of us have an answer to that. But seeing Cale playing so well in this tournament really makes one wonder what could’ve been…

Wonder if this is an NIL/portal issue.

Pay and convince a portal guy and feel like you have to play him for a variety of reasons.

I do think if jacobsen played all year we would notice his flaws more and be going “where is rollie!”

Happy he played well when he got a chance. Hope its a springboard for him next year.

It's a common mistake made by coaches. Sticking with their original thoughts. One guy is more experienced and the better option and not wanting to make a change. We've seen a number of football teams with guys playing who aren't healthy and the assumption is always that the kid playing at about 80% HAS to play.

And yes, I don't know the answer to those questions, but I would bet that earlier on during the season Cale and Sam played really well together on the practice squad. As a coach, you can recognize that and give them some playing time on the court together- which finally happened in the tourney. And on a team like NU, the lineup should have interchangeable around Gary and Williams.

Jacobsen played great in this tournament without a doubt. However, the what could of been needs to be thrown out the window.

I hate taking away from his performance, but there are too many things you have to take into account

1. This was 4 games in 7 days
2. Jacobsen was the player other teams did not prepare for due to the lack of video.
3. Playing for money the ultimate selfish reason to play harder.
4. Timing/Luck
5. Legs were fresh from not playing all season

I am sure there are more, but also got to think like Paul Velander. He came in hot, and once other teams had time to figure out his game he got shut down

Going forward, it will be interesting to see how we use Cale and Sam. Having them on the team is a positive. Having them playing starters’ minutes in the long run is a negative.

Whatever happens, Berke needs to go and can never play another minute.

I am prepared to say he is the worst husker basketball player of all time.

I will say this in every thread i can.

Im a huge fred supporter but playing berke next year might end it for me.

He was playing pretty well before his injury. Versatile on defense and I think he was our leading rebounder. Offensive game shows potential, but needs to come along.
