I felt better about the defensive play. Was really impressed with
Dedrik young's effort. All over the place, looks like our fastest linebacker. More 1st downs passing than I would like to see with 12 but good coverage on receivers for the most part and no big plays given up. Bando was disruptive, Maurice and Stoltenberg solid, excellent run defense. Anytime you allow 1.2 yds per rush and 31 total, even though we weren't playing very good rushing team, it's still encouraging. Thought that Lamar was outstanding for a first game, that kid is gonna be fun to watch. Also, Keirin Williams earned his blackshirt! Blitzes came from everywhere, need to check angles and wrap up more but there were more hurries than I thought watching live. Overall, good effort, lots of red shirts around the play, much less one on one tackling than we've been used to seeing. just my thoughts.

He played at one of the corner spots in the nickel to allow Kalu to cover the slot. We were in nickel defense most of the game.

In a first game with new 1st string DT's? None.

Folks have to stop pretending that we're "set" across the first string and start to build depth before we even have the top crust established.

point taken ... but we saw second team defensive reps at DE, LB and in the secondary with the game still in doubt but none to very little at DT

Maurice has plenty of playing experience. I hope this lack of substitution was motivated more by the need to get Maurice and Mick more reps rather than a big drop off between them and the next guys up.

In this league you are going to need more than 2 serviceable DTs and after Wyoming the chance to develop depth while tolerating some gametime mishaps is gone.
