After 2 weeks, pick the final BIG 10 West standings

Stop the run? Minnesota is currently sitting at 89th in the nation at stopping the run. Their secondary is the strength of that defense.

They've also faced better running games than the rest of us. I'm going to give them a little benefit of the doubt going forward.

Wiw...how in the hell did they put up 41 last week? That is nuts for being all defensive or ST haha

They beat a bad Eastern Illinois team from the FCS. Bad FCS teams are always overmatched on special teams vs power 5 teams. And bad football teams give up points on turnovers. Eastern Ilinois has scored 5 points in 2 games.

Wow...interesting. I guess I will pump the brakes on my NW love haha. I mean I still think they have a shot at the west with their defense so far. If Stanfords offense is as inept as you say they are, though, their d might not be as stout as first thought.

from a power rankings perspective, i think they would be ranked like this:

Wisky
Neb
Minny
Iowa
NW
Illy
Purdont

I think the middle 3 could be put in any order, but there's no way I could favor any of them over us on a neutral.

Why does everyone buy Wisconsin being so good? IMO, trying not to be a homer, but they got worse from last season and Iowa has gotten better.

I actually agree. I have seen nothing out of Wisconsin that garners them being at the top. Joel Stave is not going to beat anyone. Sure their D is decent, but that is about where it stops. Their line is not a typical Wisconsin line, and their backs are not near the backs of their past. Clement is servicable, but there is no Gordon, Ball, White back there. Also, the backup isn't near what they had. Jordan Stevenson starts probably if he was accepted. I amy be wayyyyyy offf. Just don't see why they get so much love this year.

I also think Gary Anderson was a better coach. That was a good pick up when they hired him. Strange that he left for Oregon St.

That remains to be seen. You wouldn't be saying that if Iowa played Bama in their opener as opposed to Illinois State.

Alabama has nothing to do with it. We have played Wisconsin for over 100 years. I haven't seen all of them, as I am only 38, but I am very familiar with Wisconsin and their team.

@HTO I missed the memo on why you are doing this, but if the Huskers win a B1G championship this year you are not allowed to stop, EVER! :D

Doing what? I read on this very forum that Mike Riley will never win at Nebraska so I'm taking the experts word for it.

Yes it does...if Iowa faced Bama the opening week you all would have been slaughtered. If Wiscy would have played Illinois State they would look all world on paper. Watching both teams I still have zero issues saying Wiscy>Iowa.

Just because Nebraska struggles with them, doesn't mean everyone does. Stave lived off a great running game. He isn't that great of a QB. Running game down. Can their defense hold? I love our chances in 3 weeks, assuming we continue to progress.

Plus, they had the whole off season to prepare for Bama. It was like playing a bowl game. Games like that are not a good indicator of the week to week grind.

You don't think Bama would completely destroy Iowa? Bama also had all summer to prepare for Wiscy...what's your point? Wisconsins results vs NU have nothing to do with my opinion. But if you want to go on past results Iowa has not finished above Wiscy since NU has joined the Big 10. Iowa beating Illinois State and Iowa St isn't enough to persuade me to think they are now a better team than Wisconsin.

I am not into what ifs' All I know is Iowa matches up VERY well against Wisconsin. And MSU for that matter. It seems that all 3 schools commit to a style of play when they play each other. And Minnesota is kinda following that mold.

Your point and argument is silly, because all you are trying to do is compare Iowa to Alabama. Pretty weak man. Most teams aren't going to win that comparison. We don't play Alabama so we will never know. We played Wisocnsin last year, and pretty much every year, so that is a better comparison. Don't you think?

Look, you guys got destroyed by them last year and a couple of times in the past. Iowa doesn't. So for me to draw Nebraska into a comparison between Iowa and Wisconsin would be as stupid as bringing Alabama into the conversation. You see what I am saying? Because Nebraska plays us very well. How teams match up with Alabama is pointless. Its how they match up against each other.

Nebraska has a good shot to win it this year. Wisconsin's schedule makes it real easy for them, but I don't think their ceiling is very high this year. Minnesota & Iowa have a chance if they continue to improve. I'll be nice and include Northwestern in that 3rd tier.

1 Nebraska
2 Wisconsin
3 Minnesota/Iowa/Northwestern

Obviously you are not getting it. You THINK Wiscy is worse this year because they got destroyed by Bama. You THINK Iowa is better this year because they beat two bad football teams. As I said...if Wisconsin had played Iowa St and Illinois St they would look all world at this point. On the flip side...if Iowa had played any team with a pulse up to now you may have a different opinion. On second thought, you probably wouldn't. You Hogeyes are pretty delusional.

I stopped after the first 2 sentences. Myself and another poster already told you why we think Wisconsin is not going to be that good. Don't try and put words in my mouth.

Wisconsins running game is going to be down based on what? Stave can't improve based on what? Does Wisconsins running game being down mean it will be mediocre?

Oh great, you finally read it as opposed to trying to go blind or troll.

I am going out on a limb here, but I would think anything from Melvin Gordon is a step down.

Stave has never been a great passer. Although he looked good last week. And losing Gordon will make it harder on him as a QB.

We did a good job against their running game last year and the year before with a D that wasn't as good as this one, so it might not be a bad running game, but we will bottle it up.

And without Gordon they will still have the best RB in the West. You do realize that it's entirely possible for Iowa to beat Wisconsin yet still finish ahead of them in the division right?

Yes. There schedule is THIN, much like ours on the cross overs. We need Nebraska, Minnesota, and Northwestern to clip them. Or 2 of the 3. Especially if we lose up there.

Also, by the end of the year, don't be surprised if Clemet isn't the best RB in the West.

If I were a Wisky fan, I'd have been pretty encouraged by Stave's performance vs Bama. Their defense is still the top unit of any offensive or defensive unit in the division. If we get the OL to at least a respectable level, our offense should be the 2nd best unit.

Wisconsins D is not the best unit in the division. NO WAY. Minnesota, and Northwestern come to mind. And don't sleep on Iowa's D.

Clement is not the best back in the west. He's up there because there isn't a ton of fire power, but he isn't that great. Also, from what Wisconsin is used to having their line is way down. Wisconsin is consistent and they will be up near the top, but there team has had a drop off this year, and Chryst has some work to do to continue it from sliding.

You and I are completely on the same page here. People are giving Wisconsin far to much credit because of their recent success. Expect a pretty big back slide from Wisconsin this year and going forward.

1. Northwestern
2. Wisconsin
3. Iowa
3. Nebraska
3. IL
6. Minnesota
7. Purdue

I know that we live in a "I NEED IT NOW" society, but I am going to reserve judgement until at least after this week. There are some games that will either expose teams as fake or revel that they are for real. The one thing I am fairly confident in is that Purdue will be in the cellar at the end of the season.

i know that wisky has 8 starters and their DC back from what was the top defense in the west last year. What has taken place to think they're still not the best?

Ok hawkit, time to go back to where you came from. Until they win more than 8 games (2009), a bowl game (2010), or B1G division** (None) I'm going to keep sleeping on your MIGHTY hawkeyes!

I really like how physical Minnesota is and how athletic they are in the secondary. Same with Northwestern. So I guess it the unfair eye ball test.

We haven't deserved any praise, but I am not sure what the past has to do with the present.

It means they haven't shown anything in the near past or present (Iowa State & Ill St) for any type of praise. Unlike a team like Wisconsin, who you are trying to debate against, who has been relevant. Also, I have them over Iowa by 10 in a few weeks ;). Now go away and don't come back. GBR

Look at how we play them. Look up the scores. I don't care how good they do, they are our biggest rival and we don't sweat them.
