Additional Basketball Recruits

You may not recall saying they won't be missed, but you did say the equivalent.
You can go back and find multiple posts where in fact I posted that they both would be missed. Just stop. We both want the basketball program to be successful. You want Miles gone yesterday. I'm going to continue to support and defend him as long as he's our coach. Let's leave it at that. I pointed out Ed's shortcomings and obviously you took offense at that. I'm going to hate seeing him in somebody else's uniform because I loved his work ethic and energy. Let's let this dog sleep.

That's what I find to be interesting. I think the Miles haters would really love to see him have a bad season next year to prove their point, and while they state they really care about the program, a successful year next season would somehow hurt them.

As where if someone truly wanted the program to be successful, they should simply hope for success right away - under Miles or not, right?

Since he is going to be here again next season, why not support him? What does it hurt?

Seems to be an absence of any information now about who NU Basketball might be recruiting? Anyone have any information?
Not that I've heard. There could be new guys pop up all summer long though. I think one of the recruiting reporters said that grad transfers have most of the summer to decide to transfer. We're not in too bad of shape with the transfers and the freshmen coming in but it would be a really good deal if somehow we could convince Jacobsen to come back.

I don't know how it works, but once you're granted your release, is it even an option to come back? Forget the NCAA interpretation, do we think a player can even operate in a situation where he basically already said he didn't want to play for a coach? I find it really unlikely that this could happen.

I think I heard of it happening a few years ago. I agree that it is very unlikely but it doesn't stop me from wishing for it. Jacobsen would probably be a better player than anybody we could pick up late. It's interesting that he hasn't landed anywhere yet. Hopefully his bud Watson is working on him to stay. I could see where a kid could look around and then decide maybe his first team wasn't such a bad deal after all. I really expected him to got to ISU but I'm not sure they have room for him now.

Sounds good on paper, but would the NU program be willing to take him back after he left them because of the position he was being asked to play? If he were to return, he'd still be primarily a "back-up" position 5 player behind Tschmanga.

Obviously when all of these transfers took place, emotions were running high. I would love nothing more than for Miles to turn it around in one year, but I'm not delusional enough to believe that it will take place.

Near the end of this year, after a mostly dismal season, I wanted the team to perform as poorly as was required to dismiss Miles as coach. I'll make no bones about it. Whatever would help the program in the long run, which I believe getting rid of Miles would have been a part of that equation, is what I wanted to occur.

Next year, with a full season in front of us, I will hope that Miles can make the necessary changes, and can get the program to the post-season. Again though, I won't be holding my breath.

You are correct that most of your comments on Jacobsen were mostly positive, but you had some very negative comments regarding Ed. So, you're partly correct, I suppose.

Is Agau (transferring from Georgetown - formerly from Omaha Central) a graduate transfer candidate for NU? Has he signed with anyone else yet? Does NU have any interest? Does he have any interest in NU?

It's no secret I fell off the Miles' bandwagon this past season. The decision is made, he will be back next season. So I want him to succeed, just like I have always wanted him to succeed. I just hope that he was honest about how he was going to look at everything this off season, including himself.

Most doubt this will come to pass.

I don't think there is much interest from either side at this time. There has been contact, but I don't think it's been much more than just that.

Well if you are convinced that "the haters" are hoping for a bad season, then this seems like a fair question: What, in your mind, would constitute a bad season?

Would, say, losing 13 of your last 16, getting boatraced by 35 on Senior Night and being bounced in the bunny round of the Big Ten Tournament (again) be a bad season? Or would this just be a terrible string of bad luck for a young team that lost its motivation?

Well done, good sir! Laughing

I guess I should have responded "despite our hopes and prayers, we haven't encountered anything other than a bad season recently."
