Did the gigantic turd he left on the field in the Io_a game give him a dose of humility, does he see PO as a legit threat and is sucking up a bit, or is he just saying whatever he needs to at the moment because it sounds good.

As I said in another thread he only made those comments because he feels threatened by the skill set of an incoming freshman. He knows someone will be on the roster now that potentially threatens his starting position.

Maybe he is attempting to grow up by starting to understand the responsibility his teammates, coaches, and state entrust him with and is trying to make himself better. Most of us have had a come-to-Jesus moment when we decided to change some things to get better. I believe he is making a sincere attempt to get better and there is no hidden agenda.
Thing is, he wants to get coached like a freshman. I suspect O'Brien is coming in hoping to get coached like a 3-year starter.

I love how quickly people are willing to sell a 21 year old down the river. So his statement is only self-serving, but we have no insight into his motives. In addition, what do you WISH he had said?

He sold his teammates and coach down the river several times this year and helped contribute to our worst season in several decades and he's gone out of his way to say he doesn't really care for the fans and he uses the same catch phrases Bo used. How do you expect people to react?
What do you mean by tantrums? QBs do this all the time from college to pro. This alone means nothing unless I'm not understanding what you mean by this.
Please the coaches sold out TA and the entire program when they said they were going to play to their players strengths. Was that a lie?

You guys are banging the drum of a losing coach why not? I mean it's not like our defense gave up leads in the 4th quarter of 4 games that our horrible QB gave us the lead in. Forgot we scored late against NW, but they stuffed the ball down our throat in the 4th, so we couldn't get back on the field.
Which would have put us at 9-3. Our defense was so bad, that you could have took them off the field and they would have had a better chance of stopping the other team.

Interesting, because when I watched our QB play this year I thought Pee Wee players had a better grasp of the game and made better decisions than TA did.
Oh I forgot, defense doesn't have to make plays. They just get to wear the pretty black jerseys.
Do you think the "I want to be coached like a freshman" comment had anything to do with some animosity between him and the coaches and POB coming in. some telling comments by plAyers and player parents of our current recruits about the "problem with the offense" and "it's being addressed in recruiting".

I feel your pain, but chill, big fella, chill. There is very little we can do about it.
Without competition many people get complacent. He sees his coaches bringing in a Elite 11 QB and going after Allen from A&M and he's doing the right thing acknowledging his faults and hopefully taking more coaching.
I'm with you on this... It is unfair how some are treating Tommy. I think we take his comments and give him the benefit of the doubt... A fresh start and open mind could be just what he needs. At the same time, maybe the coaching meets him more where he is at and brings him along, at least as far along as they can. Tommy isn't the only reason we lost this season.
Like soda popinski said in another thread, there is so much wrong with this team to simply say it is one thing (coaching, athletes, lack of buy-in, fill in the blank).
I think part of the problem with TA is when he reverts to throw it up for grabs mode. This is where the coaches have to step in. When he starts getting in that mode, they need to coach him up... go through your progressions, hit the outlet, throw it away... I am sure they do that (they're coaches, right? They have to be doing this), but for whatever reason, on the field, when he is in that mode, it is very difficult to get him out of it. Either he makes a big play and can pull himself out or he implodes, ala Iowa game.

But the simple fact is the team played and grew as the season progressed. But the one constant was Tommy making game killing mistakes when it mattered the most. From what i saw last year he is uncoachable. The mistakes he makes are simply unacceptable for a player that has made as many starts as he has. Another year won't make any difference because he won't accept true responsibility for his play. Talk is cheap when you won't learn from your mistakes. And finally his tweet read to me like a thinly veiled attempt to threaten the coaches that his brothers have his back. And if he's not the man there will be hell to pay. Hopefully this can all get straightened out.
You may be right about his being uncoachable. And if so it will show, either on the field or from the bench because the coaches have moved on...
I'm still a big believer in giving the benefit of the doubt... If (and it may be a big if) he does listen to the coaches he will be the starter and we need to be behind him. I know you will, rover, if he does figure it out.
Maybe I'm putting too much faith in the coaches but if Tommy hasn't improved and POB shows himself to be the man, I believe the coaches will make that change.
Somebody in the athletic department before the season made the comment to a few boosters that we were going to be "a QB away from having a very good offense". We're still a QB away. Steve Taylor after the Iowa game I believe said it best when he said that we have likely seen what we will always get from TA. It's just in his DNA and we probably can't change it. That's coming from a guy that's been there and holds his tongue about players.
i thought the comments seemed desperate for TA. Especially in light of the other off-field drama that probably ticked Riley and staff off.
