5 biggest impact freshmen

I actually hope we redshirt him unless needed. I think he is a steal in this class, but also have some depth right now. If needed fine, but set us up for the future.
Like all talented freshmen, lets see what he can do in 4 games and go from there.

I just think this is a staff thats gonna compile excellent young talent, and if you dont play them, they go away or they get tampered with by other teams.

Brix and/or Pile. But hopefully only for depth. Amare Sanders was mentioned along with some of the other new cornerbacks. I could see him playing on all the special teams and rotating in with the db's.

Redshirts in the traditional sense is history. If you are recruiting guys with the intent of sitting them all year and then getting a few reps as sophs, you are recruiting the wrong guys.

You want to get guys in and out as fast as possible now and use the farm teams (Minny, Iowa, PU, Illini, Indy, NW and all the MAC type schools) as your new "redshirt" players. Let them get big and strong at those schools, then snatch them up when they can play.

If he’s good enough to be in the playing rotation, then play him.

This! Plus with the portal if you have guys good enough you play them. If he's as good as some of the players and coaches have said he is I think he plays. Is there a chance he stays for 5 years??? You never know but the way they are talking about him I doubt it. If he's good enough to be in your 2 deep (not easy this year) I think I play him.

You pretty much have to play freshman if they’re good enough. The days of redshirting a stud to get an extra year of development out of him are gone. You redshirt a kid who’s good enough to be on the field and he might just transfer on you after his freshman season. Might transfer to a conference rival. Either way, you spent a year’s worth of money time and effort to develop a very good player just to have another team reap all the benefits. Can’t risk it, gotta play’em…

Just have to make sure and not pull a Dowdwell like Oregon did where you play a guy very sparingly in 5 games. That would piss me off as a parent, mismanaging my kid like that.

He was 235# and now is 270#, so not big enough to push around any interior linemen. However, that camp in Arizona showed he is big time quick off the ball, has some really good shed movements and has good wheels, so he could create some real havoc in the backfield.

Pairing him against Jenkins or Mazzuccua a couple of good linemen might offer the coaches a look if he can be a factor as a true freshman or not. I guess time will tell.

find out who the gamers are and play them. it's always some weird mixture of guys who practice well and then seem to disappear, some who practice well and play well, and some who seem to have a different gear in game action.

Like others have said, the days of redshirting studs are gone. I'll also add that the days of our studs sticking around until their Sr year (Huskers of the 90s) will hopefully be pretty much done too.

Yes, it'd be nice if they stick around, but Bama never worried about losing guys to the draft. They had other young studs ready to fill those spots while we've been so worried about building depth forever.

I think we'll get there soon enough (guys going to the NFL after their Jr year). Unfortunately we're about 15 years behind on that compared to other elite programs.

IF he is good enough to play, play him. All I am saying is there is a ton of depth at that position... I have no problem if the coaches play him because he is that talented. Just saying if the other guys are having a great year and he is not needed, let's evaluate like we did WIlliams last year.

I don't agree with this..,he went there to play football right? Can we argue they kept giving him an opportunity to show something and he just failed to do so and nobody is to blame for, anything?

They burned his redshirt in a 49-13 win over ASU. On November 18th. That was incredibly stupid. He wasn't going to show them anything new by that point.

When a player quits his team after one season and 5 games worth of opportunities to show something, I think he forfeits the right to complain about, anything. Now if he had stayed, I could see a little grumbling about that 5th game and the shirt burn, but even then, programs know kids are gonna flee at never before seen rates and they can't treat a marginal player special. Just my opinion. YMMV, I just don't think anyone did anything wrong here. I have a bigger problem with a kid leaving after only one season, than a coach having the gall to play a kid who wanted to play
