1.) Teams that build from the portal every year. How do they compare yr to yr?
2.) Teams that develop from within. Are they more competitive from yr to yr?
3.) Teams that are instantly competitive with a new coaches that bring half their teams with them. Are they still playing at the high level or are they back to where they were before the hire?

1. Will be a crap shoot
2. "Program" as we know it will be non-existent. At this rate less than 33% of players will stay at a school for 4 years.
3) Indiana is an anomaly. The key will be, what happens between your first 2 options down the road.

1. look at florida state this year as a benchmark
2. look at clemson
3. look at indiana next year(s)

It appears to me the best coaches are no longer going to be those that recruit and develop players (Osborn), but those that can build a team from new players every year.

i think the best coaches will be those who develop a core of high school recruits and add quality portal dudes to fill in the gaps. i don't believe teams that change rosters annually will succeed over the long haul, looking at our k-state mbb program here as an example of both. there must be some foundational presence or the structure collapses of it's own weight.

Kids will stay at programs that are doing the right things. Programs that are not will have large chunks of players leaving. You can still develop. Coaches will need to get creative.

We as fans need to adjust. Our way of understanding the sport is no longer in existence. Once they get a better contract going with players being paid it will be the best the sport has ever been.

We are in a transitionary period. Please do not panic. Adjust your expectations, rather

I don’t think we’ve lived in this new world long enough know. I tend to believe it’s the “jack of all trades” type of coaches that will be able to thrive and adapt in this new landscape. Able to recruit HS players and also able to manage portal players all while you navigating the 100 other responsibilities involved with running a P4 program in 2025.

But new times often produce unpredictable results. Let’s see who can thrive in this new landscape.

1. Florida State last year and Ole Miss and Indiana this year are the benchmarks. Florida State this year is just a program failure that has nothing to do with transfers.

The haves and the have nots for the next 25 years are being determined right now. There will be 10 or so programs who will establish themselves as destination schools and will freely raid other rosters. All other programs will become de facto farm teams with no real chance to compete. Even though Nebraska has sucked, it was always theoretically possible to improve, but the window is now closing and will be permanently closed sooner than people realize. There needs to be a sense of urgency around the program. jmho

Isn’t belecheck or however you spell it having 2 separate sets of “assistants”?
One for coaching and one for recruiting?
Probably going to become the norm.
