If this was not a snide shot at me

Then I am wrong and apologize
I’m not sure why you felt the need to interject a response to my comment to scarletred. My response from an old farm boy like me to him was to point out that in fact how many tits a boar has is in fact important if you are planning to retain his daughters in the herd. You brought up your wife and kids. I did not nor would I. Find somebody else to argue with.

So that’s confusing cause you said

It's obvious to many of us that some think coaches are miracle workers and when they don't get results immediately those people turn on those coaches

I didn’t expect him to get results instantly but after year 3…🤷‍♂️

When should we expect good results then? Year 5 or 10?

Maybe 18-20 years to be fair. He needs to have them developed from birth before he can be held accountable.
Fact is Donovan is a good OL coach. Now I will let you have the last word because you can't seem to let someone reply to your post and let it go. It really is obvious to many that there are some that really think coaches can be miracle workers until they don't get results immediately. Those that expect miracles immediately turn on those coaches when they don't get those results immediately. Bottom line it's a process and like anything built well it takes time. Now I'm done and you can have the last word newbie.

I called for us to hire Dana 1 day after the 2023 season ended.

I still hate the idea of running the air raid and hope we never do because it will never work here.

I’ve always said we should run an under center, power gap scheme. And that Army’s coach would probably do well here.

You will find nothing but proof on this site of the above in my posting history

And yes I think Uncle Donnie is a shitty, unqualified OL coach.
So you called for Dana to be our new OC before he was even fired at Houston even though you don't like his offense?

What do you think it takes to be qualified to be a position coach?

from Nov 26th, 2023:

the whole thing went sideways after his 1st year there

weird situation with their all-world QB after an injury that I don't really remember the details of

would be an awesome QB coach who would attract a lot of positive pub with recruits

running a room & recruiting is a good start prior to coming to a big time program as a position coach

That's spot on. Impossible to please Husker fan recommends head coach to come to Lincoln, NE as a position coach! Now I'm getting a handle for what type of candidate is qualified in your view as a position coach. No wonder you think our current OL coach is unqualified. Donovan has never been a head coach at a P-4 school.

Just so you know Kong, Holgorsen would never have come to Nebraska had he and Rhule not shared the same agent and developed a great relationship. Which is a strength of Rhule by the way. But it's laughable that you thought Dana would come as a QB coach.

I said that because Rhule was keeping Satterfield and knew it on that date. Oh, and also because we had not employed a QB coach for the entire 2023 season.

Donovan had never been the main OL coach anywhere, much less head coach, prior to coming to NU. He’d never run his own room and never recruited anyone in his life prior to coming here. He was less qualified than the child Rhule hired to run the WR room.

I agree Rhule’s relationship to Dana landed him just like I know Dannen’s push for Rhule to make a change in-season was the catalyst.

All of the above are facts. I’m not impossible to please, I just don’t think 6-6 is anything to write home about.

This season was an abject failure just like last season. I want to win.

So you must also have thought that Pork Chop was unqualified and Terry Bradden is unqualified. Finding an NFL assistant position coach working with the alphas that you find in the NFL definitely makes you qualified for working with 18-19 year old kids. If he's a good coach, hire him. If he has contacts with talent that can be brought in, all the better

You are the only person on the internet who has made this claim. For you, when Rhule makes a good move, someone else should get the credit.

Wtf are you talking about?

Both Pot Roast and Bradden had run their own rooms prior to being hired here.

Uncle Donnie had not.

And, no, I’m not the only person who acknowledges that the boss suggests to his underperforming employee ways to improve. This happens in every business every day x1,000s.

Sorry, man. Nothing you’re saying is correct. You’re trying to “get me” by arguing against plain as day fact.

the bold print may be one of the silliest things you've ever posted on this board. Ironically you love Dana and Dana loves Raiola's abilities. I'm not sure what your personal vendetta is against Donovan but it's really odd.

You sure about that? Where had those other two well qualified coaches run position rooms before coming to NU?

I'm talking specifically about Troy Dannen pressuring Rhule to make a mid-season change. Who's your source on that?

McGuire had recruited before.

Uncle Donnie had not.

Our offensive line is trash and has not gotten any better in 3 years under Donnie. Now we are once again in need of multiple portal OL to come in a start right away because Donnie has proven incapable of backfilling Frosts terrible OL with his own homegrown kids.

I prefer to see results on the field.

Pot Roast was Wagner’s DL coach in 2019.

Bradden was the youngest high school head coach & AD in the history of the state of FL

I know a 10-figure booster who lunches with Dannen monthly who told me Rhule wanted to wait until the end of the season to make changes and Dannen said we have to do something sooner.

Dannen owns the football budget. Rhule cannot make staff changes without Dannen’s consent. Just like every other football program in America.

I don't know if our OL is trash. If we had a competent RB, there are holes there. Dylan also had plenty of time to throw this year. Is our OL elite where they can take over a game? No, but they were also probably the best performing unit on the team. DL might be a little better, but both groups did pretty well this year.

We went 6-6 and cannot get a yard when we absolutely need it.

Yup, coaches get to NU...get hyped about their 80 million dollar contract sit down in that seat in the head coaches office and then wonder how they are going to get the talent to Lincoln to actually win, when most talent is hundreds if not thousands of miles away. The fact that the #1 qb in a class was packaged with the oline coach made it easy to keep him.
I'm trusting Dana on this one. There's plenty of valid things to critique, but oline coach isn't one of them at present time.

If Dana really wanted it, he'd demand Donnie be gone or else he himself walks. If Dylan and uncle truly are a package deal, and Dana wishes to retain Dylan's services, then it must be good enough for him to not rock that boat. Good enough for me - for now anyway.

Some of you just like to whine lol. Meanwhile, some of of us have valid critiques that get lost in the mess because of depressing losers like you.

I agree that our team is nowhere near where it needs to be, but having watched a lot of our games again over break, there are plenty of times where our backs are just horrible in short yard situations. Also, Dylan whiffed a ton on reads. We overall are definitely a very mediocre football teams with below average talent, but overall I did think the OL actually played better than their talent. We have a long way to go for sure and hopefully we land a few more pieces on the OL.

one could maybe say that Donovan was under qualified for what you want at a B1G school when Frost hired him. However, when Rhule took over Donovan had run his own room and had been recruiting for a year albeit for a lame duck coach. He was no longer under qualified when Rhule took over. His recruiting classes since Rhule took over appear on paper to be pretty damned good. Rhule and Dana both seem to like the job Donovan is doing so you're flapping your gums for no reason but your own weird gratification.

The OLine has not been great. Too many people talk out both sides of their mouth on the subject though. So many say you have to have experience on the OL to be effective and you can’t win with young players in the trenches. Then complain when th older guys are playing over the younger guys.
The O line looked a helluva lot better with Dana calling plays those last few games. I expect a jump as Dana installs more of his own offense. There was a gaping hole left in our O line depth chart by Austin's last year on the trail and then Frost's weird last year. Everybody knew he was a goner including recruits. Guys like Gottula and Lutovsky have performed pretty well under Donovan's tutelage. I'm optimistic that Dana's philosophy and better play design and calling will help our O line.

Yes, Dana has given that unit a ton of help.

Finally.

Come on, Kong. This is getting ridiculous. What is it about coaching at a high school or at Wagner that makes a coach more qualified than being an assistant position coach in the NFL?

And then, you're also telling us that Dannen, just a few months into his tenure at NU, is shooting his mouth off to boosters about Rhule? This is Steve Peterson-esque stuff. There's one 10 figure booster I know and I wouldn't trust his word or his judgement farther than I could throw his car....

Running an entire high school athletic dept as a 24 year old in addition to running the football team takes a lot more skill than getting coffee for an NFL OL coach.

And yes Dannen answers questions when asked by people he’s counting on to move his vision for the program forward.

Just like he works with his subordinates to produce the best possible product.

Literally none of this is ridiculous.

Certainly, none of this is ridiculous, to you. You apparently don't know much about what assistant position coaches actually do. And for Dannen to suggest or even hint to his NIL coffee buddy that he should get the credit for any successful changes Rhule makes shows a remarkable lack of tack or ability to handle boosters. If true, we could be in trouble down the road with Dannen. Reminds me of the Steve Peterson era. Shooting his mouth off to boosters and then denying and lying about it later.

Quite the contrary.

He deflected all credit to Rhule, like any good leader would do.

I also give Rhule much credit for the humility he showed in following through with what’s best for the program.

This is all management 101 stuff, Deano

I agreed with everything you said here except the below average talent. I think Satt did a bad job of getting even average performance out of what I think is probably better than average talent. Other than one RB, nobody can tell me that KSU has better talent than NU and they have 9 wins. I like the mobility of their QB but he’s a horrible passer. Give us Dana all year this past year and I guarantee you we were an 8 win team at minimum.

Pederson was an open book to boosters of substance. I knew Frank was done before Frank knew😡. And no I’m not a booster of substance but one of my family was good friends with several and also knew Frank well.

IF I’m a P5 O line recruit, there’s no way in hell I’m “signing” with Nebraska that year. Frost was fired before the end of the year. His staff was likely gone. How the hell was ANYBODY going to sign a recruit BEFORE Rhule was hired. Your statement is true but it’s extremely misleading. Context matters and you know it.

we signed 18 kids in Donnie's first season at NU, including Bonner, Hartzog and Singleton.

just no OL.

Harvey was so pissed when the Journal-Star scooped that there would be changes before there were changes. But he no sold it. I believe the quote he threw out there to dismiss the accuracy of the Journal-Star report was "even a broken clock is correct twice a day."

Who did Austin have relationships when he was canned. There’s your problem. Austin had nothing in the pipeline from Austin. Nothing. It’s one of the reasons Austin was fired.
