Scott Schreiber is currently 5th on the Nebraska career hits list, 8 hits behind Darin Erstad.

Altavilla just CRUSHED a solo shot to RF.

And showed up the pitcher. Indiana C Fineman wasn't having any of it as he stood there nor when he returned home, nor was Erstad when he returned to the dugout.

5-2 Huskers, B6 0 out

Indiana gets 2 on in the 9th, but NU wins 5-2!

Game 2 tomorrow at 2:05pm CDT.

There was Angelo Altavilla, performing a brazen bat flip — one that drew the ire of both dugouts — after launching a home run deep into the night.

“They’re pretty competitive guys,” coach Darin Erstad said. “Some of it might be over the edge.”

Playing with as much fire as they’ve shown all year, the Huskers brought everything together Friday night for an emotional 5-2 victory over Indiana that represented a sizable step toward qualifying for the postseason.
__OWH

Anyone else bothered by the action DE took on Gelo?

I'm not happy about him dulling the edge these guys have sharpened. Similar to the way he lectured them to be humble after celebrating their hot bats following the beatdown they gave Cal Poly.

Seemed that they 'humbled' themselves into multiple losses after that. Do we not celebrate success?

I have no problem with Erstad reprimanding Altavilla last night. Yeah, he crushed it, but don't show up the other team. I wouldn't be shocked if Indiana threw at him today or tomorrow. Altavilla was being a douche.

I don't recall after Cal Poly Erstad telling them to settle down, but I would be on the players' side after the bats had been pretty quiet most of the season.

I just don't see it that way and didn't take it as showing up the other team.

Gelo hit .316 last year, 2nd best on the team, and now hitting below the Mendoza line. He's been very frustrated and probably just really enjoyed that hit.

Besides, I'm never a bat flip hater even when the other guy does it.

Also, deliberately throwing at a batter is a HUGE no-no. That bat flip is never gonna hurt anyone.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree in this instance. Altavilla stood there for what felt like forever. That's where I felt he was showing up the other team. The bat flip was just the cherry on top.

Agree with this, but still wouldn't be shocked if it happened. (though he's already been at the plate once today and it didn't happen)

If it does happen someone needs to be ejected. That's the other thing, no one has ever been ejected for a bat flip.

I had no problem with the bat flip myself. Played baseball all my life and it happened enough and never bothered me. Erstad wants everyone to play on an even keel but doesn’t seem to realize these kids today get lulled to sleep by his coaching strategy.
