11-29 PC notes Ty and Blaise done, Gabe, Rahmir and Ben Scott coming back

Coach Matt Rhule Postseason Press Conference Notes -Met with the team on Monday, coaches are meeting with players today.-Coach Rhule will meet with players individually tomorrow-Talking to older guys and staff to get feedback on the process is key-Try to go back and look at the football-When you end the way things did, you tend to look at the negatives - there are a lot of positives-Want to get guys from the portal with multiple years or instant impact guy-A good QB in the portal costs 1-2 million dollars-Our QB play has negatives, but there are also a ton of positives-If we started off with some layup games, things may have started off better for Jeff Sims-If some of our players went into the portal, they would get grabbed up quick-A lot of our coaches did some of their best coaching jobs-NIL money "is what it is"-"I would not let people be able to buy people off another roster"-Thinks players should get paid, just thinks buying players is unique-If you want a healthy locker room, you have to have players stay and be rewarded for it-The guys we brought in through the portal last year are "our guys"-If guys stay and are loyal, they will be rewarded-Coach Rhule is doing anything he can to help TW get a HC job-Rhule expects Ben Scott to come back. Benhart, Gifford, and Bullock are working through the process-Blaise Gunnerson and Ty Hahn have completed their careers-We have lots of good redshirt players-If players want to be here, they will stay. Coach won't kick players out of the program-Roster management can be tough - "we're over (on scholarships)"-Can never have too many linemen-Disappointed we didn't have more guys on the defensive All-Big Ten selection - mentions that we need to win-This offseason will be really good for the O-Line strength and conditioning-wise-Gabe Ervin and Rahmir Johnson will come back from injury and be fine-Rahmir Johnson WILL COME BACK-Marcus Washington has requested to come back, but the waiver would be complicated-"I don't think we're unlucky at all. I think we've got to get better"-Replay bothers Coach Rhule, mentions the clock not running as an example-Fixing turnovers can be solved by improving protection and run game-Hopes to only play one QB next year, not three-Will meet with Jeff Sims tomorrow morning, not sure of his plans yet-Hasn't heard of anyone on the team entering the portal yet, but individual meetings will happen soon-Will tell players if they are going to start or not, but won't kick anyone out of the program-"If anyone's mad at us with how hard we work. then so be it"-"This is a complete and total build, not rebuild"-Fans and support are awesome, couldn't be happier having come here-"Could not tell you how disappointed I am about not making a bowl game"-Players now know the process and expectations-Expect us to make a huge jump this offseason and this year-Will likely have 1-3 guys drafted, with 3-6 guys in practice camps-Quinton Newsome will get drafted-Friday recruiting really starts
I am wondering why the Huskers would entertain Gabe Ervin and Rahmir Johnson coming back. They have a history of getting hurt. Rhule and the Huskers need to learn to make the hard, tough decisions that make the team better. Hanging onto two marginal players just because they are good teammates does not make the team substantially better.

I would hope someone in Sims' life or coaching tree would sit him down and have a long talk about his career.
He is a bigger, lanky kid. Strong enough, fast, a lot going for him. He has a strong arm that is like spring, will get velocity but not necessarily precise. He is not going to the pros and I have very strong doubts he would ever play qb for another college.
Use his athleticism to learn a new position, go 100%. He might make a heck of a linebacker or tight end. Hope he stays and figures it out.
Linebacker. If he is a TE he can still fumble the ball.

I get where you’re coming from here. My only concern would be who else is in the RB room? Do we need one or both of them for depth, if nothing else?

Of. course anyone who posts any criticisms of rhule and our 5-7 season is an Iowa fan who lives in his mothers basement.

Much easier to say that as a defense mechanism than address the points brought up.
Tim, as I said in my earlier posts, it is the rhule brigade who cant decide if rhule means what he says or not, first its “oh its so great to have a coach who says what he means and doesnt use coachspeak” to “its just coachspeak”.

So spare me.

Furthermore, the post you quoted wasnt so much about what rhule said. Its a general statement. On this board if you criticize rhule youre an iowa fan living in his moms basement. Defense mechanism for people too scared to look the truth in the face. Same crap with riley and frost,

Bottom line is this: year one for rhule was a failure, plain and simple.
I didn’t say anyone Is an Iowa fan living in his mothers basement in Iowa city.
I said they could be a Rhodes scholar or they could be living in their mothers basement in Iowa City. If you thought I meant I was referring to you:
I could be thinking you were a Rhodes scholar. I could be thinking you were a Minnesota fan living in your mothers basement in Iowa City.

Back to your question. I thought MR said he would tell players if he thought they would never start here, And whether they stayed or not was up to them, but he wouldn’t run people off. I may have misquoted him. It really doesn’t bother me if you want to go crazy over this. It’s amusing, actually.
The important things to me are I do not think he is a slime ball, I think he is dedicated to his craft, and I think he knows what he is doing. That makes him better than Riley or Frost. Considering how crappy the last few years have gone, I personally will take that.

OR he could transfer somewhere where the pressure is less and try to rehab his QB career. If you can’t catch snaps you’re probably not WR material. Safety maybe. Not big enough to play backer.

The guy has a strong accurate arm. He needs to go somewhere where he can play.

Im not going crazy over this, do you have memory issues? You asked me why it would be a negative, I wanted to be sure I had accurate information, then I tried to explain why it could be a negative multiple times before, which you obviously didnt read or have poor reading comprehension.
I have no problem with rhule running people off, assuming its like ten. In fact I would encourage it.
My problem with what was said, and stay with me here, is that based on what was literally said he already knows who is starting next year and who isnt. Thats a major problem on a 5-7 team, and a problem he had last year already anointing sims.

You are free to think he meant something other than what he said, thats fine, maybe he did?

If you still cant understand why it could be a negative, sorry you just cant process it.

I could debate the accurate arm. His footwork and technique for throwing is all arm strength and his footwork gets him into trouble.

Wow. I guess it is impossible to tell a guy who is behind Gabe, Rahmir, Emmit, Quinton(sp?) and maybe someone else that he will not start here, but not have predetermined who is going to start next year?

A tip. Maybe if you don’t get wound up over every little difference of opinion, you may live longer?

Good question. Maybe because since this staff took over, unlike offensive line and receiver recruiting they have not done real well recruiting RBs.

We had 5 scholarship RBs at the start of the season. How many should we carry. We identified a guy early, he committed then months later decommitted after getting offers from top 10 programs. What do you want them to do?

Good response, whiners gonna whine.

I can agree with that
So if he was in the DrPepper challenge he would be real good. A non moving target, no defense, no wide receivers like moving around and knew to throw it at the hole straight in front of him. Sure..

You literally cannot read.

Also, Im not worked up over a difference of opinion. You asked me why what he said could be a bad thing. I told you.

You think he "literally" cannot read? This from the guy who is really really into taking everything everyone says at face value? This thread is the internet at its finest.

Wow again. I thought that MR had said he would tell people if they would not start, and if they wanted to go to another program to start that would be fine, but he wouldn’t chase them off. You think he said something different. Fine. I don’t control MR. I am not a booster of substance as Steve Perfecthair used to say, so I have no say in who is hired and who is fired. I have been a fan of the Huskers since 1976. Despite all the time that has passed, I still get tense anytime I am watching the Huskers on TV or in person. But I try now not to let it make me unbearable if they lose. And I try not to be a jerk to people who disagree with me about something related to the big red. You don’t like that approach. Fine.
