Yes to a certain extent, the Wilkinson era OU wore White helmets with a crimson stripe they didn't put an OU on their helmet till the 1966 season when at that time they decided to switch to red or Crimson helmets because Jim Mackenzie liked the way Arkansas looked so the Sooners switched.

Mackenzie only Coached one year and died of a heart attach and Chuck Fairbanks took over the OU program from 1967-1972.

They looked like Nebraska because of the red pants a Nebraska football tradition.
