Daily Nebraska Trivia/Fact: December 31

And here we are: The very last DNT/F of the year…made it all the way through!

“On New Year’s Eve 2020, who scored the game-winning, buzzer-beating putback as time expired to give the Nebraska women’s basketball team a 65-63 win over No. 15-ranked Northwestern? It was named the ESPN SportsCenter Top Play of the Day and capped an effort in which she had 19 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists.”

Volleyball Lexi Rodriguez joins LOVB Omaha

Press release via Nebraska Athletics:

League One Volleyball (LOVB) Omaha announced on Saturday that it has added Lexi Rodriguez to its roster.

Rodriguez joins four other former Huskers on the LOVB Omaha roster: Madi Kubik, Jordan Larson, Lauren Stivrins and Justine Wong-Orantes.

A four-time All-American and All-Big Ten selection, Rodriguez finished her Husker career this week as the program's all-time digs leader with 1,897. Rodriguez was a three-time Big Ten Defensive Player/Libero of the Year, and she was one of four finalists for the AVCA National Player of the Year this season.

LOVB Omaha begins its season at Houston on January 10.

Revenue Sharing

Maybe I am missing something here, but it seems to me that it would be fairly easy for universities and athletic departments to pay more for their rosters directly than the allotted $20M in the ruling.

If NIL will still be allowed, and anybody can donate to NIL collectives, even HC are doing it now, can’t the university just use some kind of middle man, or a 3rd party bank account to distribute funds that are then funneled to the collective?

That’s essentially what is happening with coaches that are contributing anyways. I even wonder if you could see HC contracts that stipulate a % of the salary must go to XYZ Collective. That would be just another way around the “limit” for universities.

If schools that are making $90M per year from the Bigten or SEC want to spend more than the $20M allowed it just seems like there could be ways around the limit to tip the scales.
