I will never understand how Danan Hughes has a job. He's never heard a cliché that he didn't like.
Olson goes 1-2-3 to start the game while a Chick infield single leads to nothing to end a scoreless 1st inning.
E6, double to LF, RBI G6, HBP, RBI single to LF, swinging K, RBI single to LF, BB loads the bases, F7 makes it a 3-0 game. Huskers go 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 2nd.
A. He needs to stay academically eligible.
B. Not sure he's interested in coming back. It took a lot to get him to return from winter break.
Why commit to begin with if he’s ready to call it quits after one semester? Just not interested in baseball anymore or more to it? He is a talented ball player so hopefully he figures out the rest.
Another nothing burger in the 4th. Still 3-0 RU. Nebraska has one HBP and an infield single is all. Very lackluster focus at the plate today so far.
Not defending Core, but Wyoming, Canada to Lincoln, Nebraska is 1,400 miles and it wasn't easy for family to travel from/to Canada during the fall. I think their restrictions have been lifted though. Big adjustment for a kid across the border. His dad has been a big support that NU is the place for him. Core isn't the greatest student either which plays in to the situation.
It'll help with Clarke arriving this fall, not sure that's enough though. I hope it is as Core has flashed ++ potential.
Real solid 6 for us. 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB & 4 K. Can't ask for much more from a bullpen arm in his second career start.
Olson appears to be making his case for a permanent weekend spot in the rotation after striking out the side in the top of the 6th. But of course the bats do nothing other than a couple of walks to keep it a 3-0 game after 6.
He pitched his ass off today. I was expecting 3-4 innings out of him.
Olson and Hood get through the top half of the 7th. An Everitt walk and a Wimmers single gives Gomes a chance at game tying 3 run HR!!!
It's a moot point now since Gomes would have scored on the single but I believe the umpires missed the call.
And because Nebraska can’t have nice things a 2 run HR in the top of the 8th gives Rutgers the 5-3 lead.
At least you're not being subjected to the Danan Hughes autobiography. He just finished the exact same story he told in the last game that he did about his broken finger...
Gomes sky high hit came right down on the fence and bounced into the field. Ruled a homer, shoulda been a 2 RBI double.
Actually don't blame him, we struggle with RISP.
Not necessarily – – outfield would have been in, not a ton of speed on second, and as you saw, the guy has a canon. Plus you got the coach out of there.
OF isn't going to play in with 2 outs and Core Jackson up.
Also, it's a big difference with 2 outs (0-2 count, he's going on the swing) and a guy on 2B compared to 1 out with a guy on 1B with a questionable choice of where to go on the hit. Plus, a "cannon" arm doesn't need to cheat in, they play regular depth.
Too funny thinking Lasko made the throw from the fence.
Gomes and the bases loaded with two out hasn't been been so great this week...
