Logo looks a bit dated in my opinion, like it would have been fashionable in the early to mid 2000’s. The block N is one of the most timeless and iconic helmets so why change?

So yay then?

A little history:

Nebraska wore red helmets from the early 1950’s till 1960.
For what ever reason Bill Jennings last team (1961) went to white helmets with # on the sides.

If back in 1961 Nebraska still wore red helmets, it’s most likely Bob Devaney would have keep wearing them.

Devaney was big in getting fans to wear red at games, first year Nebraska wore all white during away games, starting in 1963 the first away game at Minnesota Nebraska donned red pants for the first time. The rest is history.

Go Big Red!

We already have the traditional white helmet, We need a red helmet like in my avatar.

End of story.
but aren't you afraid we would look like Indiana or OU?

I guess it would be cool to see what they looked like bank in the day (per your other post).

I just posted this stuff cause I saw it over on X and thought some of these were interesting.

A lot of people are kinda negative on it, and I get that. it was just for discussion in the off season.

HUSKERS Script was out of style in 2001 let alone 2025/26
it's either out of style, or old school I guess.

what if Matt Rhule commissioned a completely new look for Nebraska, and changed the name from Cornhuskers to something else. New colors, new identity.. as a way to FLUSH all the old school/ out of style stuff down the drain? He could certainly build his vision without the past haunting him like a ghost.. it would be interesting.. but I'm sure the majority would revolt.

imo, we either go back to the old identity that we were successful at OR, you build an entirely new identity, that is modern and built for modern times and make that new identity successful.

We seem to be in no mans land.. one foot stuck in the past and the other one stuck in the present, and it pulls everyone either into or out of their comfort zone.

Just some thoughts

OU wore white helmets during the Wilkinson era and changed in 1966 and wears them on different occasions.
Indiana has three stripes.

Red helmets that I have is to be worn on occasions and I like the idea of the N that is on the majority of our merchandise clothing.

Why does Matt Rhule need a new look? We’re not in no mans land for crying out loud. Ridiculous..

When we play away games we look like Nebraska when wearing red pants, already explained the history, when we wear the surrounding whites we look like Wisconsin, Tejas or Penn St.

I sort of disagree with you.. look at this thread for example.. people mostly don't want any change, yet people are also saying things are out of style. My point was, which is it? are we out of style, or is the old look good (considered old school).

I'm not saying Matt needs a new look, but he has at times been a little critical of the 'past' history or whatever you want to call it. He's openly said certain elements of the culture were here 'before I got here'.

I just threw the idea out there.. if I had a team with some elements of culture that I wanted to get rid of, changing the look, name, etc might be one way to go about doing that. I'm not suggesting he do it, or saying he should, but if he wanted to, he could probably steer that ship and give a bunch of speeches to fire people up about that kind of idea.

I know, everyone wants to just win, and the rest is just off season fluff talk, but me personally, would like to see Nebraska continue to lead.. I don't want to look like other programs, or be a follower and maybe this is another angle Matt can use to make Nebraska great again.

When it comes down to just uniforms what culture is so bad that we need to get rid of?

Nebraska is a blue blood and one of 8 teams that has won more than 900 games, top 10 in winning pct, where do we need to continue to lead by changing the winning tradition of iconic uniforms besides a tweak for a game or two?

You’re really reaching.

you would have to ask Matt Rhule on what culture existed before he got here..

I'm just trying to have a discussion in the off season is all.

Blue blood teams have iconic helmets. Would Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Notre Dame or Alabama change their helmets simply for the sake of hitting some kind of “reset” button that represents a fresh start? I think not. Our simple helmet with the red “N” is another iconic blue blood helmet. Leave it alone.
And yeah … might as well toss in my usual mantra: just win baby.

For an alternate uniform game? Sure! I liked the one with just the script too.

But of course we shouldn't change the actual permanent helmet.

When it comes to logo options in general, here are my personal rankings:

1.
nebraska_cornhuskers_logo_primary_19931579.png

When people say this is out of style or whatever, I genuinely don't get it. This was our identity when we were the greatest program in college football history. It's totally unique, and instantly recognizable. I wouldn't trust any naysayers with style/fashion advice.

2.
nebraska_cornhuskers_logo_helmet_19709470.png

Obviously it's on the helmet, it was on the outside of the stadium for decades, it was at midfield, again it's recognizable and somewhat unique compared to other teams' logos.

3.
nebraska_cornhuskers_logo_primary_2016_sportslogosnet-2146.png

Let's face it, it's just boring and generic, and at this point it's correlated with our 2+ decades of mediocrity and/or misery. Bring back the script!

We have never worn #3 at any time throughout our history including our recent downfall.

Red helmet with #3 on them with a white strip is my choice for alternate helmet.

That's why I said I was referring to logos in general. That's the logo shown during TV coverage and on most official merch and stuff like that since the 00s.

That might be cool to alternate with the road/away uniforms. Not sure which ones the Red helmet would look better with though.
