My grandpa was a guard at a POW camp north of Omaha (I think it was near Blair). For the 4th of July one year they decided to treat the prisoners with a picnic. They provided corn and fresh butter so the German prisoners could have corn on the cob which the guards considered a treat. The Germans considered corn food for pigs and refused to eat it so the guards and their families enjoyed the treat themselves.
