Scott Frost if he wasnt a “Nebraska guy”??

Think about that. If he went to college at Texas or even Wahington State, would we still be so gung ho about bringing him here? Does one good season in a mid level conference playing the 98th weakest schedule in the country make you a great coach? Remember, Frank Solich was a Nebraska guy too. Heck, he was Osborne’s right hand man for how many years?? And once Osborne’s players graduated the Frank Train started to veer off track. Frank couldn’t recruit, his staff couldn’t recruit, and nor did they emphasize recruiting. Hence what eventually led to his demise. And the Nebraska name was much more relevant back then than it is today. Same thing happened with Bo, who was considered a “kinda Nebraska guy”. Once Callahan’s players left Bo could do little either, especially against the better teams of the Big 10. Blowout losses to Wisky, Ohio St, and Michigan. I will say this about Bo though. His team that shut out Arizona in the Holiday Bowl was the best Nebraska team we’ve had since 2001. Why? Because they played great defense and ran the ball well (Burkhead). Fast forward to 2017. We see a team that looks lost, confused what to do and how to react, unmotivated in big games, soft, a step behind on D, but most important not confident. Pretty much all the same things that have plagued us over the last 15 years.

So, tell me, what can Scott Frost bring to the table that all these other head coaches couldn’t?? Solich coached under Osborne. Callahan coached under Gruden and brought his team to the Super Bowl. Pelini coached under Les Miles and won a national championship as a DC. And Mike Riley, well I don’t know. What Scott has done at Central Florida is remarkable. Not saying it isn’t. And I’m not saying he isn’t the best man for the job, nor am I saying he is the best man for the job. And I’m still not 100% convinced he is Bill Moo’s top candidate. And if you think he is just going to come in here and win a Big 10 title in 2 years then you are certified delirious.

All I know is whoever the next guy is to lead this football team, there are a few essential things he will need to do. And no, its not restore the walk on program. The walk on program is fine. He needs to hire the best strength and conditioning coach in the country. That is an absolute must. Both of our lines continuously get manhandled every game, regardless of opponent. This was always our distinct adavantage during the championship days, strength and conditioning. Husker Power. Can’t win games if you cant win the line of scrimmage. Secondly, a top flight Defensive Coordinator that attacks. Blackshirts need to be restored. Giving up 500 plus yards a game is beyond acceptable. Then we need to get back to recruiting the JUCO ranks consistently for the best athletes. Getting Prop 48 players in the 90’s was another advantage that made us great. That is the equivalent to JUCO today. Mike Riley failed miserably at this. The program needed an immediate influx of talent when he got here and he didnt do it. Whether it was his decision or someone else’s, it wasnt a good one. Those things I feel would make us competitive again. And lastly, as fans, all we need is a little PATIENCE.
