Worst home loss in Nebraska football history

Tanner Lee playing Santa Claus against Northern Illinois was pretty bad. It was the final nail in the coffin of the Eichorst/Smilin' Mike Shit Show, as Eichorst was shown the door right after that loss.

Northern Illinois scored one offensive TD that day and Lee threw 2 pick-sixes and an additional INT. But hey, cue the "Hiring Bob Diaco is what got Riley fired!" chorus.
That game wasn't on Diaco, but Oregon, Wisconsin, Ohio St, Minnesota, Penn St, Iowa?

Depends the intent of the question. Yes, bad teams being our superior on our home court is awful.

The worst, as in rotting out my entire gut enough to pull my heart out was all the way back in 1978, when one week after a momentous win against the no.1 Sooners we were not only beaten but physically bullied by the Missouri Tigers.
We thought we were going to play for all the marbles and Mizzou was just a roadblock easily dismissed.
Momentum was sky high after claiming the league title and slaying Osborne's personal dragon.
Certainty of the victory was all but assured when on the first play of the game Rick Berns took it 80 yards. And thats the end of that.
But no matter the situation ol school Mizzou was never intimidated by the high flying Huskers.
The score? An ironic 35-31 win for the Tigers.
Missouri had been toughened by opening up the season playing three top 5 teams in their first four games. In fact, those included no. 1 Alabama and a few weeks later no. 1 Oklahoma. Missouri was known as giant killers and tended to do so every season so playing the second ranked Huskers was not formidable for them.
It may have personally been the coldest game I ever attended. Had to walk home freezing to death. I turned on the TV and found out the rotten powers that be decided to throw our broken flesh to the lions of Oklahoma.
I can't recall anything resembling so much bitterness in a single day.

And then there was this. The body slam. It looked ten times worse in person.

This is the right answer. We were number one before that loss. Plus it's to freaking Misery.

Ahhh we were #2 after beating Oklahoma, Penn St was unbeaten and ranked #1 which was the reason why Alabama won the national title beating Penn St in the Sugar Bowl..

Again how in the world was this the worst loss in memorial stadium..

The one I shook my head the most was the Iowa St. game where we had like 7 turnovers. Just had never seen anything like it. Just ridiculous.
9-7 loss, that Cyclone team went 7-6 and beat Minnesota in a bowl game that year..

i was walking from a tailgate in the north bottoms up to the stadium to go in. was outside right about to go in and could see from the TV's NIU return the opening kick for a TD. immediately walked back out and went to barry's

Losing 49-14 to an OU team that finished with a 6-7 record was pretty dam bad.

What do you consider to be the worst home loss? For me the 2018 game against Troy was the one. Getting curb stomped by a bad G5 team has to be the worst.
The one that pissed me off the most when I was in the stadium was the loss to Texas in 1999. Losing to Ricky Williams and Mack Brown upset me so much. I hated watching Mack celebrate at the end of that game.

2003 Solich-led Talent-depleted team home loss to Kansas State, 38-9. Remember leaving in the 4th and having KState fans jeering and throwing shit at us from the top as the stadium after we’d left and were walking out past the SW corner.

As a separate point, have also never been prouder as a Husker fan than when Bo chased down Bill Snyder in the tunnel after that game and let him know exactly just What type of Bitch he was…
This game was when I use to go back every year to pheasant hunt. (Come on Nebraska!!! Copy South Dakota and get the birds back). I was driving into the state as the game was playing so I was listening to it on the radio. I was tired, sick of driving and getting madder and madder as the game kept getting worse.

For me, I think it would be 2017 Ohio State. When the players looked like Deer in headlights coming out of the tunnel. Just trying not to get embarrassed. We’d had some bad moments as a program since 01 but to me that was an all time low. It’s where the thought entered my head that Nebraska is down for good.

We lose much more than we did and therefore way too many to choose from.

I'll narrow down to pre Bill Callahan era and in my lifetime as a Husker Fan:
  • Losses to bad teams: 1984 Syracuse, 1992 Iowa State
  • Losses to good teams we should have beaten (and it derailed title runs): 1982 Penn State, 1984 Orange Bowl vs Miami, 1984 OU, 1986 OU, 1994 Orange Bowl vs FSU, 1999 Texas

Diaco was awful - he just wasn't the reason Riley got shitcanned. Huskers coughed up 4 INTs in the Oregon game, which makes it kind of hard to beat a team QBed by Justin Herbert. That was followed by the 3 INT, 2 pick-six shitshow against Northern Illinois. At the point Riley's sugar daddy got fired and Riley was a dead man walking.

I was at that one. The disparity of talent was bad enough but their lineman looked like they were rolled out of a factory, ours were fat and slovenly. The first play of the game every one of their lineman ate up every one of ours. I could see this was going to be very bad. Their third string qb went on to win a Heisman. Our third string qb is ridiculously still playing college football.

Losing 19-10 against Iowa St in 1992 was a big and surprising loss, at least to me. That team had a lot of momentum and absolutely hammered a couple good teams.
It was shocking for the time at least.

For me the worst loss was to Miami 30-31 when Osborne went for 2 to try to win the game.

A 31-31 tie would have given Nebraska a sixth NC.

Compared to the last decade, the number of pheasants I have seen this year has been staggering.

I sat right next to the visitors section that game. God it was miserable.
