Worst home loss in Nebraska football history

Oklahoma State in 07 was really bad and signified that Callahan was done. 2019 under frost to Ohio State comes to mind. Yeah Ohio State was an elite team but being so outclassed in that game made me seriously question if frost was going to ever get us to where we want to go

I was at the okie state game....until halftime. Was like a funeral. Always appreciated gundy taking it easy on us in the second half. He could have put up another four TDs.

Tanner Lee playing Santa Claus against Northern Illinois was pretty bad. It was the final nail in the coffin of the Eichorst/Smilin' Mike Shit Show, as Eichorst was shown the door right after that loss.

Northern Illinois scored one offensive TD that day and Lee threw 2 pick-sixes and an additional INT. But hey, cue the "Hiring Bob Diaco is what got Riley fired!" chorus.

Depends the intent of the question. Yes, bad teams being our superior on our home court is awful.

The worst, as in rotting out my entire gut enough to pull my heart out was all the way back in 1978, when one week after a momentous win against the no.1 Sooners we were not only beaten but physically bullied by the Missouri Tigers.
We thought we were going to play for all the marbles and Mizzou was just a roadblock easily dismissed.
Momentum was sky high after claiming the league title and slaying Osborne's personal dragon.
Certainty of the victory was all but assured when on the first play of the game Rick Berns took it 80 yards. And thats the end of that.
But no matter the situation ol school Mizzou was never intimidated by the high flying Huskers.
The score? An ironic 35-31 win for the Tigers.
Missouri had been toughened by opening up the season playing three top 5 teams in their first four games. In fact, those included no. 1 Alabama and a few weeks later no. 1 Oklahoma. Missouri was known as giant killers and tended to do so every season so playing the second ranked Huskers was not formidable for them.
It may have personally been the coldest game I ever attended. Had to walk home freezing to death. I turned on the TV and found out the rotten powers that be decided to throw our broken flesh to the lions of Oklahoma.
I can't recall anything resembling so much bitterness in a single day.

And then there was this. The body slam. It looked ten times worse in person.

That’s a heart breaking lost No question for me too, but it‘s far from being the worst loss in Memorial stadium..

Well the question was asking an opinion. The worst Husker home loss by fact would be whatever the largest margin was.
Worst can mean a lot of things.
You mentioned a 12 point loss....not sure how you categorized that.

You weren’t alive then… Fans were upset and wanted to fire Devaney after the loss, they hadn’t lost to K-St since Jennings and K-St was the worst football program in the Big8 and it was the biggest upset in college football in 1968..

Ohh yea Nebraska didn’t score and only had 146 total yards..

Asking for a friend…why is this even a topic that someone would respond to?

Geezus, you act like Missouri crushed Nebraska for the rest of the game after Bern's td, far from it. Nebraska held the total yardage advantage 517-476, both teams played sloppy defense for much of the contest.

Big loss, sure was, but Nebraska played an equally physical game the week before with OU, colder than the Missouri game, and the hitting from both sides was a true heavy weight battle, Nebraska was in a much greater physical battle with OU than who Missouri played the week before, so the Tigers were the fresher of the two.

Most fans I knew were worried like heck about the Missouri game, nobody I can recall said Missouri should be dismissed as Nebraska lost to them in 1976 and scraped out a hard fought game in 1977, 1978 was a perfect storm for Missouri.

Blo barely beating FCS teams was very telling of where the program was headed

Losing to BYU with that freakin Hail Mary on the last play of the game to start the season in 2015. Couldn't find any Pepto in any Nebraska stores after that game.

1986 Oklahoma.

I still don't understand how TF that one happened.

Sooner Magic can go choke on one of those giant red hot dogs.

I cried worse than the time I saw the Hulkster get his a$$ beat by King Kong Bundy on "Saturday Night"s Main Event".

It appears I have different opinion on what’s the worst loss and what a heart breaking loss is..

We've had so many mind-numbing losses over the past 15-20 years, both home and away, picking a worst loss feels like an unanswerable question. Its like asking someone who has been beating their head against a wall for 20 years - which time hurt the worst?

That was a very tough one to take. I considered that one too. Keith Jackson was a nightmare. 87 also.

What an odd answer. I wasn't alive then? I might have been playing with Tonka Toys but I was very much alive.
Your criteria for the worse loss is your own obviously. I've got no argument with it. I like the different opinions. Actually, Nebraska only played three conference home games that year and lost all of them so I fail to find the significance. There was nothing of note on the line but obviously it meant something to you.
Much can be attributed to your age and where you were at as a fan.

A loss to Georgia Southern would have been soul crushing in the Osborne era but by the time it came around I felt little emotion. It had become standard fare.

It could have been worse for you that day. You could have just broken off an engagement (got dumped) the Tuesday before the game and received two failing grades on critical tests the day before like I did. Truly the most miserable week and Cornhusker loss of my life.

Georgia Southern without question was one of the worst losses at home…

This isn’t about they only played so many home games because back in those days they only played 10 games compared to the 12 game schedule now..

If you want my opinion on Osborne worse loss at home I would go with in 1977 when they lost 21-24 against Iowa State.

That game at home was unbelievably pathetic as was most of the 2007 season. That game had me emailing anyone I could think of at NU demanding Pederson & Callahan be canned. I had never done anything like that before 2007.

Wasn't the hc of Missouri that year the DC he fired ?

Georgia Southern was not the worst loss at home, because it (allegedly) finally convinced the dumbass tradition coalition boosters to move on from Frost 😬

Ouch.

2003 Solich-led Talent-depleted team home loss to Kansas State, 38-9. Remember leaving in the 4th and having KState fans jeering and throwing shit at us from the top as the stadium after we’d left and were walking out past the SW corner.

As a separate point, have also never been prouder as a Husker fan than when Bo chased down Bill Snyder in the tunnel after that game and let him know exactly just What type of Bitch he was…

That Ohio St game was a Frost era ender for me. Haven’t been back since. I will change that in 2023 and make a return trip to Lincoln.

Yeah, last game I attended. Had season tickets sold them for the remains games and did not renew them after that.

As I recall, Texas A&M was either right before or right after Oklahoma State and we got routed at home by them. A&M went on to fire their coach. The Georgia Southern game this year has to be pretty high on the list. Also, we shouldn’t even be scheduling them let alone losing to them at home.
