What do you consider to be the worst home loss? For me the 2018 game against Troy was the one. Getting curb stomped by a bad G5 team has to be the worst.
Oklahoma State in 07 was really bad and signified that Callahan was done. 2019 under frost to Ohio State comes to mind. Yeah Ohio State was an elite team but being so outclassed in that game made me seriously question if frost was going to ever get us to where we want to go
That’s a heart breaking lost No question for me too, but it‘s far from being the worst loss in Memorial stadium..Depends the intent of the question. Yes, bad teams being our superior on our home court is awful.
The worst, as in rotting out my entire gut enough to pull my heart out was all the way back in 1978, when one week after a momentous win against the no.1 Sooners we were not only beaten but physically bullied by the Missouri Tigers.
We thought we were going to play for all the marbles and Mizzou was just a roadblock easily dismissed.
Momentum was sky high after claiming the league title and slaying Osborne's personal dragon.
Certainty of the victory was all but assured when on the first play of the game Rick Berns took it 80 yards. And thats the end of that.
But no matter the situation ol school Mizzou was never intimidated by the high flying Huskers.
The score? An ironic 35-31 win for the Tigers.
Missouri had been toughened by opening up the season playing three top 5 teams in their first four games. In fact, those included no. 1 Alabama and a few weeks later no. 1 Oklahoma. Missouri was known as giant killers and tended to do so every season so playing the second ranked Huskers was not formidable for them.
It may have personally been the coldest game I ever attended. Had to walk home freezing to death. I turned on the TV and found out the rotten powers that be decided to throw our broken flesh to the lions of Oklahoma.
I can't recall anything resembling so much bitterness in a single day.
Well the question was asking an opinion. The worst Husker home loss by fact would be whatever the largest margin was. That’s a heart breaking lost No question for me too, but it‘s far from being the worst loss in Memorial stadium..
You weren’t alive then… Fans were upset and wanted to fire Devaney after the loss, they hadn’t lost to K-St since Jennings and K-St was the worst football program in the Big8 and it was the biggest upset in college football in 1968..Well the question was asking an opinion. The worst Husker home loss by fact would be whatever the largest margin was.
Worst can mean a lot of things.
You mentioned a 12 point loss....not sure how you categorized that.
Texas Tech's air raid offense was hard to defend against.Excellent choices (So to speak). May I add Texas Tech in 2009 to the list? The only team to score 30+ points on the historic Nebraska defense. That game was anomaly.
Geezus, you act like Missouri crushed Nebraska for the rest of the game after Bern's td, far from it. Nebraska held the total yardage advantage 517-476, both teams played sloppy defense for much of the contest.Depends the intent of the question. Yes, bad teams being our superior on our home court is awful.

And then there was this. The body slam. It looked ten times worse in person.
USC could have named the score07 USC was pathetic.
It appears I have different opinion on what’s the worst loss and what a heart breaking loss is..1986 Oklahoma.
I still don't understand how TF that one happened.
Sooner Magic can go choke on one of those giant red hot dogs.
I cried worse than the time I saw the Hulkster get his a$$ beat by King Kong Bundy on "Saturday Night"s Main Event".
🌽
That was a very tough one to take. I considered that one too. Keith Jackson was a nightmare. 87 also.1986 Oklahoma.

The part about the kick in the nuts was the Orange Bowl committee calling Devaney with Osborne in the room when telling them their invited to the Orange Bowl to play Oklahoma..😩1978 Missouri. That was a real let down after beating OU. A massive kick in the nuts.
What an odd answer. I wasn't alive then? I might have been playing with Tonka Toys but I was very much alive. You weren’t alive then… Fans were upset and wanted to fire Devaney after the loss, they hadn’t lost to K-St since Jennings and K-St was the worst football program in the Big8 and it was the biggest upset in college football in 1968..
Ohh yea Nebraska didn’t score and only had 146 total yards..
It could have been worse for you that day. You could have just broken off an engagement (got dumped) the Tuesday before the game and received two failing grades on critical tests the day before like I did. Truly the most miserable week and Cornhusker loss of my life.Depends the intent of the question. Yes, bad teams being our superior on our home court is awful.

Georgia Southern without question was one of the worst losses at home…What an odd answer. I wasn't alive then? I might have been playing with Tonka Toys but I was very much alive.
Your criteria for the worse loss is your own obviously. I've got no argument with it. I like the different opinions. Actually, Nebraska only played three conference home games that year and lost all of them so I fail to find the significance. There was nothing of note on the line but obviously it meant something to you.
Much can be attributed to your age and where you were at as a fan.
A loss to Georgia Southern would have been soul crushing in the Osborne era but by the time it came around I felt little emotion. It had become standard fare.
That game at home was unbelievably pathetic as was most of the 2007 season. That game had me emailing anyone I could think of at NU demanding Pederson & Callahan be canned. I had never done anything like that before 2007.Oklahoma State in 07 was really bad and signified that Callahan was done. 2019 under frost to Ohio State comes to mind. Yeah Ohio State was an elite team but being so outclassed in that game made me seriously question if frost was going to ever get us to where we want to go
Wasn't the hc of Missouri that year the DC he fired ?Depends the intent of the question. Yes, bad teams being our superior on our home court is awful.

I eventually graduated, married someone better, and my team won 3 nattys, so things have a way of working out if you keep your head up.Ouch.

That Ohio St game was a Frost era ender for me. Haven’t been back since. I will change that in 2023 and make a return trip to Lincoln.Oklahoma State in 07 was really bad and signified that Callahan was done. 2019 under frost to Ohio State comes to mind. Yeah Ohio State was an elite team but being so outclassed in that game made me seriously question if frost was going to ever get us to where we want to go
Yeah, last game I attended. Had season tickets sold them for the remains games and did not renew them after that.Oklahoma State in 07 was really bad and signified that Callahan was done. 2019 under frost to Ohio State comes to mind. I was at the okie state game....until halftime. Was like a funeral. Always appreciated gundy taking it easy on us in the second half. He could have put up another four TDs.
