Which part is lame? That Penn State would be a better opponent or that Iowa is lame? Or both?
I’m sure Maryland would love to have the Clarkeyes as their rivalry game over thanksgiving..
It’s about geographical and long time rivalry’s at the end of the year in this conference…

Everyone has they rivalry games at the end.. Penn St and Maryland is a natural and so is the herky game with us..
Poster has some agenda that doesn’t apply to the entire conference...

Playing Penn State on Thursday and Iowa on Friday is asking a little too much.
Quit bitching, I’ve come to loathe Iowa, don’t hate them like Colorado or even Mizzou but iowegians do disgust me so I’m ready to roll into town and take a victory.
No agenda at all. Just think Penn State would be a better contrived “rivalry” game than Iowa most years and especially this year. Would be a blast heading into Penn State game possibly getting to play spoiler.

I understand the geography thing. Just don’t think it should be THEE determining factor for “rivalries” hence the contrived part. Figured you were old enough to remember Nebraska OU. That was a real rivalry. For that reason alone, if anything, the B1G has it wrong, which is par for the course for them I guess.
Penn St does nothing for me. Let’s beat Iowa and then we can all have a therapy session where we admit that it actually is a rivalry.
Long time rivalries? We have none, and the first years with legends and leaders divisions Penn State was our protected cross over. If you recall that. Or go with UCLA now, we have more history with those than Iowa.
I don’t think it’s a rivalry. We can’t live in the past but to compare how did it make you feel to play Colorado the last 2 years. Or Oklahoma a few years back? Anything like that with the Hawkeyes? I’m dead inside towards the Hawkeyes. I’d choose northwestern, those games are always competitive and we win around half of them at least.

good point, Nebraska leads 30–21–3 which is FAR too close to my liking...
more disturbingly, Wisconsin leads 13–5, this is so wrong on so many levels one cannot fathom....

No way. Back then Nebraska or OU were playing for Natty’s or Conference Championships. The Nebraska vs Iowa game is no where near that level.
I agree. That’s not coming back no matter how much you want it to. Iowa is our rival now no matter how much you all want them to not be.
Look, i am not saying we should play Colorado or Oklahoma. I asked you to compare how it felt. That isn’t the same stop accusing me of living in the past. If it feels like OU then you deep down like Iowa and respect them.
Ok, I’ll be over here acknowledging the reality that we play Iowa every year and a day doesn’t go by that we aren’t talking about Iowa on this board. You be over there talking about…. Who?…. being our rival.
No one. Talking about no one as our rival. IF we ever get to beating them more than once a decade then they will become a rival. Until then they look at us like we looked at Kansas and K State in the 1980s, very comparable.
When NU begins to consistently beat Iowa it will be in the position to compete for a conference championship game appearance and a playoff spot. Iowa is a natural geographic rival and we should’ve expected such when we entered the league.
W 10, L 8 Our record against Penn St and are 3-1 against them since joining the B1G. They don't own us.

Minnesota/Wisconsin one of the biggest
Indiana/Purdue
Illinois/Northwestern
Penn St/Maryland
Is Penn state/Maryland really a thing? Google shows PSU leads the series 43-4. I'm not sure that is much of a rivalry. I would match PSU up with Michigan State. Put Rutgers and Maryland together.
Penn state was given 0 rivalry games with the changes made last year. Iowa has 3. We should have zero. Yeah Penn State Maryland isn’t one.
Before we got to the B1G, no team played in a black Friday game and they just had to steal the thunder for us!
