Why we lose close games the last 20 years. Pathetic number

Turnovers, penalties, special teams. Mental breakdowns. Often the difference between winning and losing.
Why I was hesitant to get on the hype train. I love the D and all the young studs. But the offense is still the same old boneheaded penalties and turnovers I've seen for a long long time now. Rhule will get it fixed. Will take time to beat it out of them.

We need to bring in young confident studs to fix this problem. Kids that know they’re good, have always dominated, expect to dominate, and don’t think about the negative or making mistakes. Once you start thinking “don’t make any mistakes” you’re done, it’s over. That’s exactly what you will do…

Honestly that's hard to accomplish and rather impressive. Not in a good way.
In this span two insane games stick out in my memory...

NEG 7 turnover margin (1 to 8) Texas Tech 70 - NU 10 - The Beau Davis 4th quarter experience
NEG 8 turnover margin (0 to 8) Iowa St 9 NU 7 - 2009 - This game was hard to comprehend

-15 in those two games alone.... yikes

so many TOs inside the redzone in that ISU game. Maddening when a FG would win it.

Can Nebraska just take like a 4 year hiatus, then just coke back and try over again?!? I mean let’s get the loser mentality out of here let it all move on so we don’t indoctrinate the young kids into the we suck again mentality and keep the cycle going… scrap come back in a few years and try it all over again…. 🙄

But seriously that just go to show what I was saying the other day in my self destruction thread… we constantly find a way to beat ourselves, we can’t blame refs or anyone other then ourselves, our players, our coaches… it shows just how exhausting it has been to be a husker fan since 2004….

How do you fix this issue? It seems like it would be so easy… we have the talent it seems like, but it’s like we don’t practice ball security, or how to take the ball away… I don’t know what the right answer is, other than good into the dang ball

THIS.

It’s frankly unwatchable. I turned off the game in the middle of the 4th Quarter. Nebraska’s turnovers are biggest reason why we have plummeted. It brings me back to last year’s win at Iowa – we beat ’em last year because we won the turnover battle (and Trey Palmer - a young kid with ultra confidence).

Opposing coaches know in their BONES that the simplest way to beat Nebraska is to let Nebraska crumble under their own pressure and beat themselves. And the quickest and swiftest way to beat yourself is to turn the ball over and lose the turnover battle.

NU is missing a big marketing opportunity by not selling turnovers in Memorial Stadium. Sometimes you just need to embrace it.

Sorry, my attempt at embedding a picture went awry. I am deficient in this area. There is a picture floating around out there of Jeff Sims on a Pepperidge Farms box of turnovers.
